FYI: Changing LED Notification Light color based on App - Light Flow

Hi Andrew - you're going to hate me - if you don't already! so - now my alerts are repeating - at least for SMS and either email or gmail - not sure - but.. nothing shuts them off.. not even the "clear" that shows up. A restart shuts them off.. So - we're making progress though.. Not sure if you want to keep talking here - or pm me.. but if you have any advice, please let me know.. the options for the screen being on and the "alert during a call" are both checked - which is how I want them anyway.. Maybe I'm missing something else.. Meantime, my phone OS my FINALLY change to Gingerbread soon.. not sure if that "wipes" the phone or not - or how else it would change it. so - not sure when that will be.. not soon enough! Keep in touch.. Thanks - Maggie

Meantime - I did something - playing with the options and every time I would get a message that triggered an alert my phone would "black out" every time I attempted to access it.. so I had to uninstall - it was late and I didn't have time to figure out what I had done.. Meantime, I was HOPING to get my Gingerbread update today - so I was waiting - no update.. I will probably wait another day or two until I have time to re-install and see if I can fix whatever I messed up.. and.. maybe I will finally get the gingerbread update and somehow all will be right with this miserable phone!

Hi Andrew - your worst nightmare is back. Go my GB update - no real improvements on my phone. After having uninstalled Light Flow and NoLED as noted above, I have now put them both back.. The real bummer is that at least before Light Flow was giving me repeat notifications on missed calls and voicemails.. Nothing else, but at least I was getting those. Now I don't get any repeat notifications. Please help me. Thank you.

Hey Andrew - are you out there? I wish I still at least got my repeat alerts for missed call and voicemail.. can't figure out why I was getting them before I changed some settings and had to uninstall.. Now I don't get any - because of the NoLED app.. Still would love for your app to be working for me.. I wish we (you) could figure this out!! Thanks much.. Feel free to pm me if you want me to get off this forum/thread!

I have accessilibilty turned on - not exactly sure why - but - both my LightFlow and NoLED apps have "check boxes" in there - and both of mine are checked.... I don't know what these have to do with talkback etc.. or if they need to be on - but mine are on.. Of course my two apps aren't "playing well" together either... Sure wish they would though.. or that I could get the functionality of both in one..

Here's the details from our website regarding the accessibility service:

When I switch on Accessibility for Light Flow it prompts that the app may capture credit card details, why do you want those?

We don't. It's a standard message from Android when switching on any accessibility services, similar to if you use a custom keyboard a similar message pops up. We use the accessibility service to capture notification events in the notification bar and to recognize when you've entered certain apps to automatically clear down notifications. If you look at the permissions used by the app we do not require Internet Access or the ability to send SMS / Mail messages so the app could not do anything with captured details anyway!

Andrew, great app! So great I created a fourm account just to talk to you. I too am a BB/BeBuzz/BBAlerts convert, and your app is simply a MUST HAVE!

Ok, so I have a DROID4. Two things,
1) I Understand the blink-frequency/solid can not be controlled on the Motorolla like you have stated. That is not to big a deal, but it would be a BIG improvement if the blinks could be sequenced. Meaning, right now I will see, for example, 2 blue blinks then a red then one blue then a red then 2 blue again, and so on. Do you think, for Motorolla users, all blinks could be started at a sequential interval so they would blink in order? My guess is the afore mentioned behavior is because LF tell Moto to "use LED" then Moto takes over the schedule of that LED blink. What if LF, for each "blink" re-started the command and then timed each new alert after it? So for example it starts email alert at second 0 then sms alert at second 2, and so on - so that Moto is forced to blink them in order?

2) I notice when my battery gets to 5% the Moto red LED takes over and does not allow ANY other LED control. (I am looking to see if I can disable Moto low-battery LED, but have not found it yet.) What is your take on this?

Thanks again for your app & continued dev support on this!

You guys feel comfortable turning on your Accessibility ?

Yes, because as I was Googling around to find this program it became quickly apparent that this is the best-in-class app for Android for this purpose. Dozens and dozens of indiviual sites giving this app 2 thumbs up! It has an insane amount of downloads and positive reviews. Clearly this is not a rougue app created to steal user data.

I don't have ICS, and I should have, but haven't, written a review for the market - but this is an AWESOME app.. and it DOES work with NoLED for those of you with phones that don't have LED's - it's still great for repeating alerts.. It's right up there with Berry Buzz for those other former Blackberry folks.. I love this app - Support is awesome - Andrew is always there for me.. poor guy! but seriously, this is a super app. Tons of features.. Works great!

Thanks, also just to point out I've always ensured that everything the app does doesn't require internet access just to make people realise that even though the app needs lots of permissions it can't do anything with the data that would be potentially available to it.

For question one, yep basically LF just tells the phone to issue a notification on it's LED, but has no idea in it's flash sequence where it is. Trying to reissue a command after each new alert (based on the length of flash time I've specified) also doesn't seem to have much luck. I think it's because there's always slight variances in the timing between issuing commands based on what else is going on in the phone (ie other apps running, garbage collection etc). Before I ever released the app I spent a long time trying exactly this, but ended up coming to the conclusion that it's really not possible.

That's where having more control over the flash speed helps on some other phones. On my galaxy nexus I use a much faster flash rate and it'll flash 3 or 4 times before changing onto the next color and somehow flashing more it seems less obvious.
