Help Signal Boosters?

This past weekend, we moved to a new home. Immediately, we noticed that our signal drops down from full bars to just one in our area. This is annoying to say the least. Does anyone have any good experience with the cell signal boosters on the market? I'm hearing mixed reviews for them. Specifically, can 4g be achieved with these aftermarket home sig boosters? TIA!

I personally use a Wilson Electronics DB Pro Cellular Booster (Kit pn# 841263) which is an inbuilding dual band, amplifier and repeater. Dual band because voice is (3G) 824 mhz range and data is 1900mhz. Awesome Product. This kit includes a directional antenna to "dial in" to available towers. They offer another kit with an omnidirectional antenna. I use this in a metal building that does not allow service. With the booster, I have full signal. I have friends with ATT that cannot get service in the area, but have 4 bars when they are in my building. They also offer a 4GLte amplifier (700mhz). The ideal thing to do would be to install both in order to have 3g and 4glte coverage. The devices can support up to 10 phones simultaneously and 5 data cards. Wilson Electronics is a great company. They are based in Utah and offer great customer service and tech support. They do not sell direct, but they have a lot of resellers. Be careful and ask Wilson for the MSRP because some resellers really jack up the prices. They DB PRO Booster is $479. I just became a dealer.

Hope this helps. They also offer in car solutions.

Why (do you think) it requires Wifi to work?

It does not require wifi, but a working internet connection.

Actually it may require WiFi (sort of) if, and I emphasize the word if, you want to supplement both voice and 4G data. The Network Extender by itself requires internet access for calls/data to travel across.

The older model Network Extender (SCS-26UC4... the same model that I have) will manage voice and 1X data... the newer model Network Extender (SCS-2U01) will manage voice and 3G data. Unless I am mistaken, Verizon does not currently have a Network Extender that will manage voice and 4G data.

I am thinking about getting one of these units to replace the WiEX signal boost I have now. I am reluctant though because I can not figure out where to aim my directional antenna.

I have several apps that are supposed to tell me the location of the tower I am using. However when I drive to the one they say I am connected to the best signal I get is around -85 to -90 db. which is slightly better than in my house with the booster.

There is another tower about a mile farther away that makes the signal on the phone go to around -65db. The apps do not register it as a tower and say I am connected to the first tower. Aiming at either tower has no effect on the output of the booster.

So, I don't want to drop another $500 to find out there is no improvement.

Any advice?

Wilson amplifiers work great and do not require an internet connection to boost your signal.

You can do one of two things.
1. Use the omnidirectional antenna and not worry about tower location

OR

2. I use the directional antenna because it gives you a more powerful signal.

In addition to your apps......Use this website....
Cell Phone Towers - CellReception.com to determine your closest and best cell tower by carrier. Get familiar with your area via google maps and compare the two to locate your best cell tower. You can filter the results to show just your carrier. Don't try to view with multiple carriers. Assess for each carrier individually if you want to be able to have the best signal for multiple carriers. Locate your best cell tower and then use GPS Essentials to
place a waypoint on the tower location (on the map), then use the compass part of GPS Essentials to point your antenna to that tower.

PM me if you have any additional questions. Let me know if I can help.

How would you use a directional antenna with a Razr when there is no port to attach the antenna to?

The Wilson systems that I referenced use two antennas to deliver a stronger signal to up to 10 phones simultaneously. One antenna is external to receive the available signal. The amplifier then boosts the signal and it is then "delivered" (I.e. wirelessly, no cables) to the user by an internal wall antenna that broadcasts the signal into the room, home, building, etc. These systems only require an available signal outside the building. You do not need broadband or wifi.
