I tried moving the date and I see that the update loads. I click to reboot and install and it stays on the rebooting screen for as long as I will let it. Tried this 10x and still have not had it reboot. Anybody else at this stage.
Thanks

I am having this same issue. I have downloaded the update about 6 times now and it does nothing except idle at the "Rebooting" screen. Any resolution tips would be much appreciated.

Verizon/HTC/Android management of updates is awful (understatement). I have an iPhone for work, no issues installing updates.

Anyone else thinking that rooting seems to be the much easier route? :)

Just saying...:D

+1
I'm SO glad that my phone was already rooted when this came around, it was way easier just to flash the new rom.
My wife's got the update message a couple of weeks ago, the update failed and she hasn't seen it since. However it would be hard for her to care less than she does. The phone works as it is, she doesn't care at all what version of the OS is on it. I've long time ago given up on showing her the cool stuff that various roms can do, she's like "that's nice dear, now you run along and play..." :)

I followed the directions here of going into HBoot and clearing the cache. I then advanced my date by 1 year and immediately started downloading the update. Updated with no problem (took 5 min at the droid eye to finish reboot) and I now have 4.08 after having it not install two other times.

Thanks again for all the advice on these boards.

Well, I hate to tell you this, but the exact same thing happened to me, except my phone number was (and still is) stuck at 0000001265. I've tried reactivating it about 10 times. Spent about a half an hour on the phone with Verizon yesterday and they finally pronounced it dead and offered to send me either a Droid Incredible or Droid Incredible 2. I didn't even have to complain to get them to offer this. I was quite clear with them that this problem started immediately after the OTA update. You probably realize this, but you can no longer make or receive calls on that phone since it can't be activated. If it's important he has a working phone, I'd get on the phone to Verizon. They are overnighting mine, but since I did this on the weekend I won't see it until some time on Tuesday. :-(

Take care,

Gary

My dad had to do the same thing be here tomorrow. nothing they did or i could solve it tried everything on here and a few other places but hopefully the phone he gets works they are sending him another inc

Now I'm really flipping - I can run the whole way up to starting the 4.08 update install - it runs up 1/3 way - the phone just restarts and I'm still on version 4.06. The only thing I can think of is that I have AVG antivirus on the phone and it runs an automatic scan whenever I date change to download the 4.08 update. I repeated the hboot clear cache, recovery boot sequence followed by the update download / date change / tried to install at least 3 times.
This is really starting to get on my nerves. Otherwise phone is working OK.

What a pain. I use two-step sign-in for my Gmail, and of course my laptop hit 30 days today and wanted a code I couldn't provide since I didn't bother trying to load Google Authenticator on it. I will need to dig out the alternative codes when I get home tonight. One the plus side, the battery in my Incredible lasts freakin' FOREVER now that there is no 3g or phone calls going on! :)

Just an update this morning. I have had my phone going all day and no problems at all.

One thing I was hoping for was improved signal strength, but I guess that was too much to ask.:) I sure hate it when the people with the free Verizon cheapy phones can walk around WalMart and talk on their phones and my or my Wife"s phone can only get a good enough signal to make a call at two places in the store.

No luck - green bar download after reboot just simply stops at 1/3, phone reboots and no 4.08,

I'll keep trying. I'm getting pretty good at it now.

thanks for the help

Unclick auto time
Change date to 1 month in advance
Change time to 12:30
Do checkin in dialer *#*#checkin#*#*
Wait 5 miniutes

If this doesn't push it and you already had got it, try a few more times.

I.would clean cache before trying it.

I forgot one detail I had to add to the above. Though I would set my clock ahead a year, the phone would start syncing and set itself back to the correct time. To stop that from happening, I went into Menu- Settings- Accounts & Sync and unchecked "Background Data". That kept the phone from resetting its date and allowed me to keep the phone on its new date and time inorder for the upgrade to take notice.
