Hi guys,

Just dropping a line to do some cross-communication. I'm working on the LG Shine Plus aka alohag or C710h, a phone that is closely related to the Ally, but sold in Canada by Telus. It's pretty much the Ally with a different camera and a few tweaks.

We recently received an update to 2.3.3, and LG has released their sources for it. Poking through the kernel, it looks like there are sources for several related phones in there, including the Ally. I'm not sure if 2.3.3 will work with the radio version you have, but it might be interesting to try to compile these sources for the Ally as well as it looks like all the drivers and build data you need are in the sources.

See LG 2.3.3 Sources are here - Android Forums for instructions on getting the sources for this phone.

Not sure it will work, but it's worth a try.

Also, I've been able to build my own kernels for the Shine Plus using these sources, but haven't successfully done anything like overclocking yet. Is there a list of interesting patches you folks have applied against your 2.2.x kernel that I can try porting over for fun?

I see that your Velocity rom has a bunch of interesting kernel tweaks, for instance - I'm hoping that there sources for the velocity kernel, preferably patches or diffs someplace?

Cheers

Sadly the only reason Verizon would want to release 2.3.3 on a phone as old as Ally is to mess up root or at the least nag those with custom ROM'S to "Upgrade" to stock.

This is the source code, however, so it could be possible to directly create a custom rom if there's a way to use the existing radio from 2.2.1.

Anyway, this source release may be of interest to your custom rom developers, but to everyone else, not so much.

Cheers

Verizon is rotten like that. They also probably know that the radio firmware probably isnt compatible with 2.3.3 and LG isnt supporting this phone anymore(at least as far as I know) so they wont release any gingerbread and even possibly honeycomb and ice cream sandwich firmwares. Im already recieving texts from them to upgrade early and get away from this phone(which I wont unless I know I can run different OS's). I was wondering if anyone has actually been able to re-engineer or even been able to decode the radio firmware from the ally and actually make it compatible with 2.3 and newer roms or is it just lost architecture?
