Root HTC Incredible downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.2 or whatever...

Hi guys I am needing some help. I have a HTC droid incredible First Generation. I am looking to root it and put the latest cyanogenmod on it. However, the phone has 2.3.4 Gingerbread on it and as I understand, I need to downgrade to a version that will allow rooting and whatever else. SO.... I have been searching and searching but I cannot find a good tutorial or any write-up on how to do the downgrade. I see tutorials for the Incredible 2 and they say it will not work for the Incredible 1. I know it is possible because I have met a guy who had it done. Someone told me it would be easy... all I would have to do is flash it. IS that true? and if its that simple, How? Anyway here is what I have to work with: an Incredible (first generation) with 2.3.4 GB, a Mac computer and no prior knowledge of anything rooting and/or flashing. Can someone direct me to a trusted tutorial or some kind of resource where I can figure this out? Thanks

Take a look in the root forum, there is a sticky right at the top with directions.

Its the sticky in this very forum. I just performed this on my phone today and it worked great.

i'm in the same boat, i could have easily written your exact same post. the problem with the sticky in that forum is that it doesn't have instructions for mac. i couldn't run the programs.

Yeah, nothing is not working for me. Unrevoked doesn't even recognize the phone. Also I realized I posted this in the Inc 2 section. sorry.

Hey just so you guys know I got it done. I just used a windows instead and it worked fine.
