The final Gingerbread RUU for the Incredible is now available. Also extracted the rom.zip and made it available as a PB31IMG for those that prefer to update via hboot. Among other things, this will provide another option for those having problems getting updated with the multiple OTA's.

RUU:
Stock Gingerbread (2.3.4. build 4.08.605.2 final Gingerbread)

I downloaded the PB31IMG zip file. When I tried to extract it on my PC, I received the message that it was an invalid zip file. Is there a special compression that needs to be unzipped in a different way? Also, this file is almost twice the size of the two OTA zips combined. Why? Just curious. Thanks.

Because this is the full system image. You do not unzip the file. It's placed directly onto a fat32 formatted SD card and loaded in hboot.

Both of these methods will wipe your phone. We're talking about a clean install if you go this route. The RUU is probably the more user friendly of the two methods if you have not formatted your card due to previous dealings of a similar nature.

If anyone runs the RUU and you have a connection error, you likely don't have the Inc drivers loaded onto your PC. In that event, the most failsafe way I know to get them is to download HTC Sync:
HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads

Sadly, it's a large download and all you need is the driver that comes packaged with it. You don't even have to run the Sync program at all. Don't blame me, blame HTC for not submitting their drivers to Microsoft. Anyway, after you have it downloaded, plug in your phone in charge mode and reboot your PC. When it fires back up it should auto install the new drivers for the Incredible. Then launch the RUU.

OK, here is my situation:

I have rooted DInc running Froyo with some bloatware removed (renamed and/or moved to separate folder).

I would like to upgrade using PB31IMG.zip method. Do I need to restore bloatware and/or reset cache and/or reset to factory defaults before flashing this? Or do something else?

I don't have a problem with having to reinstall apps from sctratch, I rather prefer it that way so that leftovers of old os/apps don't interfere with new OS version.

I don't think you have to restore any old bloatware using this method, if I'm wrong somebody will chime in. I also have some better instructions for each method in this thread:
http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-return-stock-gingerbread.html

Although some of that is geared toward root users (this method also unroots phones in addition to returning to stock), just bypass any root related stuff. The procedures are still the same for non root users.

No, but note that I did edit my post a few seconds before you quoted me. I'm trying to remember how this works for non-rooted users and I'm pretty sure if you removed bloat it won't matter with this method but I'm not 100% sure more I think about it.

Worst case, it won't work but I feel strongly that it will even with the previous bloat removal since this wipes the slate clean and loads the new version from scratch.

Does anybody know the differences between 4.06.605.2 and 4.08.605.2 ?

I am running stock (but rooted) 4.06 and don't have any issues really with it. No random reboots. No lockups. Working pretty much flawlessly.

Is it worth the upgrade (wipe and have to re-install everything?) to move to 4.08?

The newer one fixes the market (sprint apps), fixes screen size, fixes the loss of apps on the sd card when rebooting. Also believe it fixes some Bluetooth connectivity issues.

For some reason every link I click I cannot download the stock recovery file. The first on the list. The 3.7mb one. arghhh. Multiupload says its not there. direct donwload not working...all mirrors down. Also the depositfiles one says taken down due to copyright violation.

edit: whoops I was supposed to be posting in this thread. http://androidforums.com/incredible...ally-install-gingerbread-ota-s-if-rooted.html

So if none of what i wrote makes sense that's why. IM extremely tired btw.
