Third party launcher performance

If neither the Razr nor the Rezound work well with other launchers, then I'll stay with my DX2 which is working amazinginly well with Go Launcher. I normally like ADW ex, but it had gotten laggy on my DX2 so I recently switched to GO and man am I impressed with it overall.

Teeg, IMO, the Razr is far better. I owned a DX2 too, so have perspective of both.

Well, as of 8 am tomorrow morning (black friday) I will likely have a RAZR so I will know for sure if GO has lag on the RAZR. GO is buttery smooth on my DX2 FWIW. Anyway, I will be giving my DX2 to my daughter for her birthday and using my VZ upgrade on the RAZR at walmart. I get a $100 walmart gift card if I do it tommorrow morning so I'll be taking advantage of that. I will check back into this thread once I have GO up and running on my RAZR.

I don't think that is an accurate characterization at all. Looking at the posts above, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.

Putting it another way, blur used to be sucky sucky in terms of response on older Droids. Third party launchers were a great improvement in terms of responsiveness and customization.

The new version of blur on the Razr is absolutely lag free. It only lacks in a few areas, like screen numbers, customization, etc. Performance wise, new blur launcher rocks.

My original question was geared toward a level of performance you don't see on other phones. When I mention lag or redraws on the Razr, it is so minor some owners don't see it at all. I wouldn't give up on anything until you've actually tried it.

Thanks for the info. I'll be getting my RAZR tomorrow at walmart for the black friday deal on it and I'll know shortly there after if GO lags on it. Also, there were several posts in this thread suggesting that 3rd party launchers lag on the RAZR so that's where I came to that conclusion. I also see some saying there is no lag with them. Bottom line, I'll have to test this out myself.

I downloaded Go Launcher and what an invasive App. It automatically took over the Razr. I uninstalled it immediately. It may be good, But, not having an App that does this. It could at least wait until I set it up.
Don't panic, it had to do that to work. In fact, once it is installed, it has a home screen migration tool that will copy all of your blur folders and home screen icons into Go.

All third party launchers do that sort of thing. You'll need to install a home switcher like the ones mentioned above to get back to the blur launcher. You can also turn Go of through three app manager IIRC.

This is not a third party launcher fault. That is the way Moto designed their launcher - the moment a new one is installed, the Moto one is not available.

Use home switcher and stop panicking.

Home Switcher still does not let you set Blur back as the default launcher as long as there are other launchers installed. I stumbled upon something called MotoHomeHelper today that allegedly fixes this, but I haven't tried it yet.

I never said it does allow you to set default homescreen, only said it will let you switch between the two you have.

Why do you want to have a 3rd party launcher installed if you want to use stock?

Alternatively, try freezing the 3rd party one with TiB and everything will return to stock, you will not have to reconfigure 3rd party launcher of your choice after defrosting it when you want to use it again.

Yes, but from what I saw the home button always brought up the third party one despite having selected the stock launcher from Home Switcher.

Well, in my case, I was looking at Go Launcher and couldn't make too much of it for the moment, so I wanted to go back to Blur for now and look at Go again another day - but the only way to do that was to uninstall Go Launcher.

But that requires root, right?

1. It has been stated already that it is not possible to have 2 launchers and set the Moto one as default - Motorola's fault.

2. The only way is to uninstall - you can back it up though, and restore later - not too much work.

3. Yes. A problem? I can only see advantages.

Checking back in to report that Go Launcher works flawlessly on my new RAZR. I may freeze blur, however I don't know which parts one can freeze. Would be great to see a list of freezeable blur launcher parts. Not that the phone needs it - it is smoking fast and smooth as is. I've alread frozen a bit of bloatware, but to be honest, it doesn't feel necessary. Just old habit of me to do that I guess.

You can usually freeze "Home", which takes out the blur launcher.

The only issue I occasionally have with Go now is the folder drop downs. On occasion the screen transitions (opening the folder, or going to second pages within a folder) crawl badly. Overall it's good enough I think I'm done dorking around with LPP.

Thanks for the info. I have to say I can't remember one single instance of lag from Go yet myself. I'll go in and freeze "home" now.....

There is a list like that on XDA, do not have a link.

Thanks, I'll look for it over there. I've already frozen quite a bit of stuff, pretty much the same things I froze on my DX and then my DX2. Can't say I tell a difference, but it's just old habit to freeze bloat for me.

I have had stuff frozen since the day root became available and I do not know either, but at least there are less apps sitting in the background, especially those I would never, ever use.
