Hi there,
i tried to ran an update of my phone Optimus p500 (froyo to gingerbread).
I'm using Linux and don't have any windows machine, so i installed virtualbox.
I started the upgrade process with the LG tools. As soon as the telephone gets into emergency mode and the installation is done to 4 percent, the USB connection got lost.
Has someone an idea how to update without windows? Just with Lubuntu?
many thanks in advance

i know how... here is a idea...

1) do you have recovery boot image? (hold vol-down, home, and hold power when turning on...)

2) if you have that recovery boot image, then all you have to do is download custom flashable rom to your sdcard... and then....

3) run nandroid backup...

4) wipe/clear all users data areas, 4.1) wipe cache 4.2) wipe davalik cache

5) flash rom, and then after done, flash google_apps.zip

6) GENIUS!! REBOOT!! SUCCESS!!! enjoy...!

or as another alternative... not sure if it would work... goto Linux | FreeOS, free operating systems, get a copy of ReactOS, but the live image... bada bing bada boom... (open source windows... ??!?! might work? )

wine probly wouldnt work... but maybe... i hate wine sometimes...

i have a few other suggestions....

try to find a windows live bootable cd on thepiratebay.org

need more help? ask me!

Code:
custom flashable rom to your sdcard
lots of information ;-) where I get custom flashable and where to store it?
thanks

head onto XDA developers and find your phone section.
in it the sticky topics should direct you towards all available ROMS..
read all steps carefully before u flash for a 100% safe flash.. :)

Hi, i can't get into recovery mode, while holding volume down, home and power, an icon pops up (little box with an arrow and an android) then the LG logo and again the icon, then the logo and so on...:(
In recovery, navigation is done using the following method:
menu button = select the highlighted option
vol up = go up
vol down = go down
back button = go back to the previous menu

Use vol down and go down to backup/restore. Select it with the menu button. Then select backup and let it sit and backup the phone. (Everything in this parentheses is optional but recommended. I suggest copying all of the contents from your sdcard onto your computer. Doing this will also leave you with a copy of your backup on your computer. In the event that you want to revert back to stock, you can restore this backup. You might ask, why would I want a backup on my computer when it is already on my phone? Well, in case you accidentally delete your backup, you still have a copy of it on your computer.)
