KK2 and KK5 Android 2.3.6 now out

Not sure what the differences are but might be worth a shot, especially if you're a flasher addict like me who is frustrated at the recent lull in activity!

Intratech now has the stock firmware/kernel and a Frankenstein package available in his Official i9100 Firmware thread. These will definitely use the old jig-friendly bootloader and should be no-wipe versions.

anyone know the difference between KK5 AND KK2? perhaps it just the release in region/time difference? and anyone know any change compare to 2.3.5

i read on the xda forum the difference noticable so far is the market version. KK5 has the newer version and KK2 has the old.

If we are close to ICS then no point in updating but if its gonna take time then i might flash 2.3.6 but i would like to know what's new in 2.3.6

KK5 is only as a Frankenstein version currently (so no wipe). Its a good deal smaller too.

As for changes in 2.3.6, all I've managed to find out is that it has a voice search bug fix. Surely there is more to it than that, but nothing else that I have found up to now.

There seems to be wifi and USB tethering problems with this version, at least on the Nexus, so not sure if it will affect the GS2

Hi, I had a software notification last night and ran it. My Galaxy S2 is with 3 and the update went OK over 3G and updated to 2.3.5 and GINGERBREAD.XWKI8

This morning when connecting my PC to the hotspot I found that the hotspot name and password have been changed which I presume was done by the update. The device now shows up as AndroidAP.

Has anyone downloaded intratech's KK5 yet?
Its in a .7z format and inside it there is a .tar.md5 file, but I cant extract it. It says "unsupported compression method"

I might try downloading it from another server, but dont want to do another quarter of a gig if its going to do the same again.

Works for me, flashed this morning. What can't you extract, the 7z file?

the .7z file is what gets downloaded, but I cant extract the contents (which is a .tar.md5 file)

How are you finding KK5 so far butty?

I take it you have 7zip? Maybe try downloading it again?
Seems ok so far, There is no CF-Root for KK yet though

Yes butty, have 7zip.
I guess its a corrupt download, but just wanted to make sure before wating another 205Mb+

I may give it a go once there is a KK5 cf-root just to have a nosey, but more than likely shall revert back to my KJ3 CheckROM build afterwards.

Just on stock at the min, had to wipe everything last week because my phone had a funny do

Gonna wait for an ICS build now.

Just a thought tho, I've never tried it, but what would happen if you root with an older firmware version?

And are you trying KK2 or KK5?

KK2 comes with KI4 phone/modem and KJ1 CSC (407 Mb)
KK5 comes with KI3 phone/modem and KH2 CSC (278 Mb)

Kernel from an older android version probably wont boot, if its same android version it shouls still work.

I flashed KK2 last night then KK5 this morning.

can anyone PLEASE help me, I don't know what to do. I have a samsung sgh-i897 captivate with ATT as my cellphone provider. i downloaded kies mini on my xp pc then plugged the usb cable from pc to cell phone & started the software update but I've been having the yellow triangle saying downloading...Do Not unplug for over 5hours so I went to sleep, my pc froze overnight while I sleeping. what should i do? I didn't do a backup :-(

Start by going into the right forum, this is for Galaxy S 2 (I9100)

So guys... Is this 2.3.6 update for rooted phones only or can I use it for my stock Cellie?

On O2 in the UK - 2.3.5 at the moment.

You dont need to be rooted, but you will have to use Odin as per the instructions and you will lose all your O2 crap.

so not a bad thing really!

as you are not updating through an official update via samsung kies software, you will also lose your warranty unless you put the original firmware back on

Excellent. I have ODIN on my machine ready but I haven't had the guts to use it yet.

If I can use this update on my phone, I.E. It won't brick my phone, and I won't get the dreaded warning triangle then I'll go for it later.
