***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I must say, I find it kind of curious that Verizon doesn't have the Razr or Rezound on the home page - yet they feature the Bionic with their double data special. Gotta wonder what goes on in the heads of the marketing people over there.

"We have WAY too many Bionics sitting around, and they ain't selling worth a darn".

Sound about right?

I would add to that, easy for some. It can be overwhelming for others. sbf and ruu methods are NOT for the faint of heart and anytime your rooting or unrooting there is that small chance of bricking, more specifically when messing with radios. The key of it all imo is being super informed on what one is doing before attempting any of it. Read, research, and read until you know and understand all the aspects of the said process. I've known way too many people who jump in without knowing exactly what they're doing only to come back saying "PLEASE HELP I'M STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP WHAT DO I DO!" I think I read about rooting my Inc for a solid month before jumping in. It paid off as it was painless and smooth

The key component of the Galaxy Nexus from a development perspective is that "unlocking" and "relocking" the device is as simple as running a couple of ADB commands. No vulnerabilities are being exploited because the device was intended to be open-source and developer friendly. Returning the device to stock should be a relatively painless exercise.

I'm not encouraging anyone to root or unlock until you have done your own individual research and are comfortable with the process. I'm just clarifying that this particular device is indeed a true open-source device and will be much easier to modify then the typical Android phone where the Android OS has been bastardized by the manufacturer (Motorola, HTC, Samsung, LG etc...).

Just my .02

Edit: I meant "bastardized by the manufacturer"...

The drivers are what scare me. :(
And I know there is a one click already but I am kinda at the point I want to learn what I'm doing rather than blindly going about it

it's easysauce. you just install PDAnet, tick usb debugging on the phone, plug the phone in, and drivers install. it's when you go to fastboot that the device then becomes unrecognized again. it's really more of a 'duh' moment. you just open up device manager or similar if on OSX, select update driver, browse my computer for driver software, then select let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and it'll be under SAMSUNG Device iirc

A barometer doesn't necessarily help with "lock times" it helps with accuracy in regards to elevation. From what I understand, the error in GPS altitude calculations is pretty sizable when compared to the error in lattitude/longitude calculations. By my understanding, the barometer is to help with the altitude accuracy. I do not know to what extent it helps, but it could possibly be a plus for hikers if they use their phone to get GPS coordinates and altitude measurements?

You know what would be awesome, if the tweet said this instead:

This. Having root is just having admin privledges to the phone. It's not always an exploit to gain root.

Just noticed something that is a bit of a downer. On Verizon's trade in page, my Thunderbolt just dropped in value from $93 last week to $32 this week...

Although maybe it's a sign they are releasing the beast soon and don't want to give back a lot of money to all of us TB owners.

I've noticed this as well, my Droid 3 was worth 135 now its only 83 and thats within a weeks time. Thats why i'll either be keeping it (i bought it through the buy 1 get 1 free deal for 200, so i paid 100 for mine) or maybe i'll sell it on craigslist.

It does, it does. But it makes me wonder if there will be an online push for the RZs before the Nexus. Hopefully they'll just flop on Nexus advertising. The ones who want to know will find out about the Nexus.

Is your display really cracked? If you accidentally checked yes to that when it's not, it will give you $32, the value is still worth $93 if the display is not cracked.

My Fascinate is worth a whopping $38.

Someone mentioned in an off-hand post VZW is phasing out unlimited data if you upgrade your device starting March of next year, is there any more info on whether or not that's true?

Yeah, I saw that. Very curious. This must be a start to a small marketing campaign or a start to a big campaign. We should look back at VZWNews to see when they started info on the Bionic or Rzar to see how many days before launch it was.
