Sprint, which is spending $7 billion to upgrade its network to LTE by the end of 2013, says concerns about its capacity are overblown, arguing that advanced technology allows it to make the most of its spectrum resources. Bob Azzi, a Sprint executive in charge of the company's network, said the company's plans assume that it will keep its unlimited data service during the LTE rollout.

....

Instead of forging a deal with Clearwire or Sprint, Moffett suggested that T-Mobile USA would instead turn to U.S. cable operators such as Comcast Corp and Time Warner Cable. Some investors had hoped these companies would come to Sprint's aid as they are part-owners in Clearwire. But since the cable operators have unused spectrum in the same band as T-Mobile USA, Moffett suggested that the cable providers would instead create a partnership with that company if it has to abandon the AT&T deal.

Sprint 4G Network Upgrade May Kill Unlimited Data Plan

Analysts like to talk and speculate. It's what they do. It gives them press and earns them money. The only people who can honestly say whether or not Sprint will eventually ditch unlimited data are the decision makers at Sprint, however. Until I hear it directly from Sprint, I will take any analyst talk of Sprint ditching their unlimited data with an enormous grain of salt.*

*And the day they do announce such a change is the day I start comparison shopping with the other carriers.

You're right, Citizen. I also believe that Sprint knows a majority of its customers feel that way and that they have done everything possible to keep phone data unlimited. That is their main selling point... Unlimited data at the lowest price.

Agreed. Once they give up on unlimited data, many people will switch to one of the other national networks.

Jmho, but I have actually been noticing better 3G here. As I understand it, that is a part of the Vision rollout plan. Right now I'm going to give Sprint the benefit of the doubt. I think they are trying to improve the network and doing what they can to keep our data unlimited. I just can't imagine they would eliminate unlimited data because again, that is their main selling point. Only if they ever get to Verizon's level nationwide (they are actually very good here) could I fathom they would consider tiered data.

If they get rid of unlimited, they better allow us current Sprint customers to be grandfathered in.

You have to understand MidWest thinking. I live here and I can tell you they "being Sprint" don't give a s&hi$ about customers going away.

They have been doing it for 10 years and Sprint hasn't changed a thing about how they do business.

When LTE hits and you buy a new LTE phone your 4g wimax unlimited data will not transfer. They will just view them as two diffrent things.

You tell me when is the last time Sprint made a profit or smart business decision?
