I say once the phone is released and the thread is closed we have a local meetup thread for people who want to go to the bar with fellows geeks in the local area :)

I'll second this motion, plus then we can all beam with one another....i can see how disastrous this will seem:

"Hey babe/honey, i'm going to a bar to meet up with some people i met online then we are all going to beam."

"YOU'RE GOING TO WHAT?!?!?!?!?!"

Been lurking here for a while anxiously waiting for details on the release, and thought I'd finally chime in with a few stories about best buy...

A manager at Best Buy told me over the summer that he had physically handled the then-upcoming iPhone and that it was 4G with a larger screen...so obviously BB employees sometimes talk out of their you know whats....

Last week someone at BB told me that VZW is contractually obligated to make phones available in BB the same day as in VZW stores. Not sure if that is true.

Finally, a few years ago I did a preorder of the original blackberry storm through best buy and they didn't get enough devices in on day 1 to fulfill all their preorders, and they gave out phones to those who preordered them in random order. So I don't know whether their policies have changed, but back then there was no guarantee that a preorder would get you a phone on launch day.

Anyone have experience with preorders or launch day orders through wirefly? They have a good stock?

I have only purchased accessories from Wirefly, but I found the service and prices to be excellent!

You bring up a good point with your BB stories -- I don't think anyone has mentioned that TECHNICALLY (I am pretty sure this is still the case) Best Buy Mobile is a separate company than Best Buy which operates out of it's stores and under the same umbrella and there is obviously cooperation between the two within the stores. The same set-up goes for Geek Squad. What this can mean is that you need to read the specific policies for the wireless section, and not just the general merchandise. Hence the slightly different return policies, etc.

Also, certain decisions are left up to stores. What you are describing with the Storm incident, sounds like that particular store didn't plan ahead. Just like people have certain VZW reps they can count on, apply the same logic to Best Buy. I know a lot about the stores in my area because my ex was Geek Squad for several years at one of them, I know who to trust better than the average consumer. Just some extra food for thought, FWIW.:)

and Welcome!

"There's no such thing as a free lunch."

I am sure any band would donate their services for free for any event as grand as the US introduction of the best smartphone of all time! In all seriousness, I just don't see how a band, playing a few songs for a phone kickoff event, would put so much of a dent in Verizon's budget that the consumer would feel the pain financially as a result of it. No Way.

I'm sure it has WB, flash on/off, metering (center, frame average, center weighted), ISO, and a little exposure compensation (I'm going off my CM7 Inc). There are a few apps in market where you can pimp out your camera though :D

Noticed I said lighting 1st in my earlier comment. Knowledge of it in photography is priceless

Thanks...I'll have to play with it some. (fyi - I do a fair amount of photography...just nice to have a camera with me at all times, since I don't carry my D300S everywhere...lol.)

You're right about the lighting - for those that don't know:
The word "photography" comes from the Greek words phos ("light"), and graphis ("stylus", "paintbrush") or graph

I am not. I was looking forward to holding it in my hand this time next week.

Ditto -- but I have to admit I'm not sure what would be better for my schedule. Slightly before finals so I don't play with it too much when I need to get down to studying/projects. Or half way through them, which is what the 15/16th would be.

College BS

I go to a commuter campus - so we follow the same academic calender as public secondary schools in terms of when we start a semester. Which means I didn't start until AFTER labor day, per Michigan state law, which means I have my last final on the 21st! So glad I'm graduating in April! I'm too old for all this - want to focus on my darn career!

Bands are cheap. Venues and logistics concerning the event are not.

Dent or drop of water in a bucket. CEO's and investors aren't paying for it. Period.
They pass the buck to consumers. Always.
