How much are you willing to compromise?

How much are you willing to "compromise" if you plan on getting this phone when it comes out? We've heard of different things that could happen (albeit rumors/speculation) with respect to this phone's release. With this in mind, if youre set on this phone what from the following list are you ok with? Pick one, pick more than one, or pick non:

1) The existance of bloatware (tainting the Nexus experience)
2) VZW having "say/control" over future updates
3) VZW branding on the device
4) Inability to disable bloatware

Be completely honest, what would be crossing the line and you wouldn't get this phone even if it was available right now.

I can edit the post to add items, PM me if you want me to add something you've heard that you'd like to see how people feel about it.

The bloatware and branding won't bother me as much. The updates control will. Look at the volume issue. Google has already pushed out a fix.

Also, the main thing for me is a phone that's skin free. No touchwiz, no motoblur, no HTC sense. I want a real taste of android the way Google intended it to be. I can do my own customizations as I please.

None of this actually bothers me, I'm still gonna get it, but in reading the forum I saw many people take issue with these items, so I wondered how many will actually pass on the phone because of one or more items from that list, or are people speaking out because they are mad it hasn't been released and will forget it all once the device is available.

No i can actually understand the frustration that these 4 things may cause certain people. Im a phone whore, i use to swap phones out 2-3 times a year, usually because there are better specs or i just become bored with the device. I went from a Sony ericsson t610 to a w800i to the Blackberry pearl to the SE p1i and so forth and so on. I jumped on the android bandwagon with the original mytouch 3g and havent looked at another os since. I went from the mytouch and finally got my hands on a NEXUS ONE and i didnt even look at another device for over a year. It was great, i finally had software support a great device that was ahead of its time. When other devices like the evo and original galaxy s came out i didnt even look at them because my nexus was just as good as those devices and i had a bloat free experience with no carrier logos at all. I eventually left the nexus because it didnt have enough app space for me, but i always missed the nexus and its still my back up phone for when i need to send out my device for repair. Matter of fact im using it now until my g2x is ready for me.

The thing is i really feel that the GN is a great device that had a lot to offer but dealing with verizon has tainted that. People keep comparing it to the iphone and there right to do so. Apple released there device when they want not when carriers tell them. They release them with there apps and logo free. Google has something that most of us feel is a better device so why not take control. Google could have controlled the price of the device as well as picked the release date and determined any logos and apps, but im sure they didnt and thus you have the current situation that android/nexus purist are complaining about.

Saying you won't compromise is the same as saying you won't buy any Android phone.

There isn't any alternative phone in the US that is better than the Galaxy Nexus in terms of bloatware and speed of updates. The only phone that will be better is an unlocked Galaxy Nexus, but then you compromise on 4G LTE.

Zero compromise. I skipped the nexus s because it didn't have a notification led. If the Verizon version says "Verizon" then I'm passing. The iPhone has no bloatware or carrier branding. Why can't this? Better hope the international battery cover fits...which it should.

Well, we already know this to be true. So I'm just curious if you'll be getting a different phone out of the current lineup ( because they all have VZ branding ) or waiting for a non-branded VZ phone?

Bloatware is the only thing on that list that would discourage me, and even then, what do I care? All of my other Verizon Android phones are covered with bloatware, and I'm sure the GNex will be very easy to root. It's also already been shown that you can effectively disable the basic Verizon apps on there without root privileges.

I can't understand why someone would refuse to get a phone because it has the carrier's name on the back. This one just baffles me. VZW having control over updates is not much of a concern to me as I will most likely have this thing rooted/ROM'ed as soon as possible.

Like most, I'm primarily concerned with the possibility of option 2 - involving Verizon as anything other than a pipeline to deliver updates. I realize that's the exact OPPOSITE of what Verizon really wants (and the same goes for every telcom carrier/cable company/ISP), but it's the major selling point of the Nexus family.

As a rule, I prefer as little Verizon-anything as possible; the only 'deal breaker' would be if it became 'just another' Verizon Android phone.

It just needs to work well enough until Apple releases the iPhone 5. I'm glad Verizon can't have a single say in the Apple products.

See thats just it the whole big deal of the Nexus line is no carrier influence/bloatware/updates/logo, its all controlled by google. So if there caving on any one of those things i feel like its a possibility that they give in on all of them. After all this was google drawing a line in the sand and the moment that verizon crossed it that becomes the accepted standard. At least thats how i see it.

1) The existance of bloatware (tainting the Nexus experience) - the 2 that have been mentioned i am ok with. I use them all the time.
2) VZW having "say/control" over future updates - hopefully this will not be the case. I have grown accustomed to it but it would be nice if the middle man was eliminated.
3) VZW branding on the device - no big deal since it's on the back. I will be buying a case for it anyway.
4) Inability to disable bloatware - although I am used to vzw bloatware, I can do without it. Put the crap in the market like everyone else. I did, however, see a post yesterday with a link to an article stating that they could be disabled. If true, problem solved although it would be better if they could be deleted altogether (especially if they include more than the two apps that have been mentioned).

None of these are deal breakers for me. I plan on getting this phone regardless :)

Only the update thing would make me rethink getting it

Honestly, I'm not worried about any of this. To me there's a distinct difference between the apps it looks like Verizon is going to include and bloatware. Even if they did throw 'Barbie's Fun Bloat Castle' on the phone, I'd still purchase. After all, I'm rooting and wiping the phone the first day :)

The iPhone has no bloatware or carrier branding. Why can't this?

That's one of the best questions I've seen in this whole mess. Why was Apple allowed to get away with it, but Google isn't? Not to mention the fact that Google usually lets them put branding and bloat all over 99% of their phones, so why couldn't Verizon let this one go.

The only thing in the list that could cause me to not buy is the updates being held up. To me this is one of the main selling points of the Nexus line. The bloat isn't really bloat, it looks like it's just 2 apps that can be disabled anyway. The Vanilla Android experience isn't compromised by those 2 apps, so it's fine. A little annoying yes, but not a deal breaker.

Will we somehow be able to get confirmation on the update thing, or will that always be a secret? I would like to see a 100% assurance that Google will still have control over when the updates are pushed to the phones. I don't mean before release necessarily, but after Verizon releases will we have a way to find out?
