Will the Samsung Note sold at amazon work on ATT's network?

Also, I saw an article that confused me about the version of Note that ATT may eventually support in the US.

from androidandme:

"The current Galaxy Note (selling unlocked for $734.99) already supports HSPA+, so the addition of 4G LTE will make it a perfect fit for AT&T

Thank you very much for the info!

The specs on the Galaxy Note say the N7000 version does have 4G "LTE 700 (region specific)" and 850/1900 for 3G so it does sound as if the current world phone is already designed to work with ATT and its 4G LTE, though maybe couldn't take advantage of T-Mobile band, if it happens.

Hmmm, interesting.

AT&T uses 850 and 1900 frequency for their HSPA/UMTS/3G network.

Frequencies used for LTE are "not" the same from carrier to carrier. AT&T will be using 700 band for LTE and possibly 1700 if T-Mobile acquisition is approved, where Verizon will be using a frequency in the 710'ish range...or vice-verse.

So if I'm following you correctly then the current european version of the note will work on att but WILL NOT work with att's new 4g lte network that they just started rolling out. So the fastest downloads it will get is hspa+.

The lte version of the note will work on att also but it WILL work with BOTH hspa+ and att's new 4g lte network.

If that's the case then I think I'll continue to hold out for the lte note.

Based on what colnago wrote and the gsmarena.com specs for the Note, it sounds as if it will work on ATT's 4g lte network, but if they acquire T-mobile which uses a different LTE band (1700) per colnago, then I don't know how that will translate.

I emailed/called ATT today and they won't confirm whether they are getting the phone. Samsung said the Note would work with ATT ("never had a problem with a Samsung phone before"), but I did not know enough to ask about the LTE bands.

I guess I will wait till I learn a little more...

Actually, in relation to an article as slashgear dated sep 30 ("Today the FCC is showing an AT&T-bands-toting Samsung Galaxy Note, HSPA+ that is), someone writes:

"Nothing about that article says the Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T.

In fact if you look at the model number, it's clear that the version that just went through FCC approval will never be sold by AT&T. Usable on AT&T - yes. Actually sold by AT&T - no.

AT&T phones have a model designator starting with SGH. SGH-I897 (Captivate), SGH-I997 (Infuse), SGH-I777 (AT&T GSII)

International generic units have a model designator starting with GT. The unit in that article is GT-I9220. So it's an international model that, while it will work on AT&T's network, will NEVER be sold by them in a contract-subsidized fashion. AT&T has NEVER sold a GT model on contract in the United states. If history is any indicator, if the Galaxy Note is ever sold by AT&T, it's going to be about a six month latency before the AT&T version drops. (See, for example, the delay between the GT-I9100 and the SGH-I777)"

ON THE OTHER HAND,

I just read that someone bought the Note N7000 for use on T-Mobile. (Didn't work.) She then brought it to ATT to see if it would work with their network:

"I went to the AT&T store today. We tried a SIM, but it didn't work (in 3G/4G). The employee is guessing that is because it is an unlocked device and not allowed onto the 3G network."

But AT&T allows the use of unlocked phones--so that can't be the reason, right?

More info needed, clearly.

I've read a few other posts where guys were initially having problems getting a 3g/hspa+ data connection and they had to reset the apn values.

there are plenty of folks on this forum using the note currently on att so I know it will work on their network. Was just confused about whether it will run on their lte network. Thanks for the input!

Another question: Does anyone know if the Note model just announced in Korea is significantly different than the European model people are buying at amazon and elsewhere?

Am I correct in understanding that both phones are (700) LTE enabled? And that the only difference is the South Korean version has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor?

The specs for the GT-N7000 at gsmarena.com (which I am guessing is what amazon sells) say the phone is 700 LTE. Samsung Galaxy Note - Full phone specifications

Thank you again!

Hi,

My Note is arriving today. I currently have an iPhone 3GS with AT&T and an unlimited plan. Aside from changing the APN settings, do you or anyone know what I do about a SIM card as I don't have one to put into the Note? Do I go to ATT and buy one?

And does this info re: APN settings below seem correct?

Thank you!

Setting AT&T APN on Samsung Galaxy S2 & Galaxy Note

1) Press the MENU button (far left button)
2) Press SETTINGS (bottom, middle)
3) Press Wireless and network (typically at the top)
4) Press Mobile networks (typically at the bottom)
5) Press Access Point Names
6) Press settings/menu button (far left button)
7) Press New APN
8) type the following
Name: Techno
APN: wap.cingular
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth type: none
APN type: Internet+MMS
All other fields blank
9) Press settings/menu button (far left button)
10) Click/Press SAVE on the screen

Hi, so I take it you've had a chance to play with the note. Does it work on AT& T'S HSPA+ 4G network? I could care less about 3G. If it doesn't work on 4G I'm just going to stick with this slow lagging Skyrocket. Thanks in advance for your help.

PLEASE IGNORE my note below--PROBLEM SOLVED! I just didn't know how to unlock the touchscreen.

I received my Samsung Note yesterday. By the time I charged it up, it was too late to take to the ATT store to buy a sim for it (I am switching from iPhone). So I turned it on, changed the language from German to English, and used wi-fi to go through some of the settings for brightness, ringtones, check out the Wacom software, the camera (tho forgot to remove the plastic tab covering it), etc. The phone is GORGEOUS and ZIPPY!

I then tried to register it at the Samsung site and couldn't do so. Maybe cuz I am in US and the phone is German. It rejected the S/N and that other # inside the phone that I tried to enter.

Anyway, that is the least of my problems. This morning when I turned it on I only get a lock screen. I never set a password. I have NO IDEA what to do. There is no SIM card in it. It doesn't even give me a field into which I can type a password. Maybe there is a simple step that I am missing somewhere. (For ex., maybe I just need to insert a SIM card?) I will now head to an ATT store and check an online manual to see what I can find. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Otherwise, the phone is simply GORGEOUS. The Wacom pad works so beautifully. The pressure sensitive stylus is ACCURATE and FAST and really pressure sensitive. In fact, it seems to work better than my Wacom tablet.

I really look forward to the day this has Ice Cream Sandwich.

I haven't tested this on any ATT network yet, but the wireless was really fast.

Please see my note below. I am almost 100% certain it will work on ATTs HSPA+ network, I just haven't gotten that far yet in the set-up...more soon.

Problem solved! All I had to do was hold down the lock on the touch screen and drag it outside the circle that appeared--then the screen was unlocked. I had not set a password by accident. Thank you extended manual.

This phone is just sumptuous. I'm off to get a SIM so I can enjoy it in all its glory!

Okay, I spent an hour with an ATT guy and we can't get the data to work--even using the APN settings (Techno) that I found for the Note online (and posted elsewhere in this string). He also called ATT tech support and they couldn't figure it out.

The ATT guy inserted my iphone 3gs SIM. I am getting calls no problem. The wi-fi works great. He tried switching my unlimited iPhone smart phone plan to pda (briefly) that didn't help (He switched it back.)

My Note is a German phone sold by Amazon. I will try deleting these apn settings and research this further to make sure these are the right settings. If anyone has any other ideas, let me know. I assume it's okay to use my iPhone sim--he said it was.

Thanks!

No clarification needed...several posts in this already...co-worker has one working on AT&T 3G. If it does not connect, delete APN entry, check settings, and create a new entry...preferably named something other than the default.

When I went to att with my note, to get the computer to accept a data plan, they had to remove the serial id. I am getting hespa+, but att isn't great in Richmond, VA. I use my wireless at home and it is fine. I love the note. It is thin and light, has great call quality, gorgeous screen. My only issue. Text and Web pages do not resize down to my screen and I have to scroll across. find that very odd. That has between automatic on Android for several versions. What is up?

Oh, I got a software update. I have no idea what it did. I went to update and searched and one downloaded and was good sized. I highly recommend the note. I took a photo of the Christmas tree, clicked the pen, drew little comments on it and emailed it as a Christmas card, just as an example. And the camera is very good.
