hey has there been any discussion on the desktop cradle (landscape/horizontal) and whether the phone will rotate into landscape mode? Every video/pic I've seen it does not... is there going to be a desk clock/nightstand app or something?

I don't get the point of a horizontal dock (a nice looking one at that) if I have to turn my head sideways to read the phone...

not enough coffee this morning though, so I'm probably missing something...

Good question. Even in the video above of the guy using the MHL adaptor, he states the GNex doesn't usually "natively" rotate into landscape mode when you rotate the phone, so he was surprised it did it when connected to the MHL adaptor. I find that really strange too. Even my 2 year old OG Droid rotates into landscape when you rotate the phone.

EDIT: There was no power to the dock in the video. Maybe when there is power running to it, or a connection to a PC, the phone will automatically rotate to landscape. I don't know though

Re: inductive charging:

I don't know if this will be offered, but I'm not as worried since the phone does have the pins on the side with docks designed for charging without a direct micro-USB connection. Effectively the same concept, no?

I like the idea of inductive charging so I only have to buy one universal dock for my cars and home. Buy a new phone, the docks still work.

anyone else notice the file path for his move is android/sdcard/movies? wonder why they would name it that
That may just be what Samsung named the partition on the hard drive for data. I know on my X2 internal partition is "sdcard" and actual SD is "sdcard-ext", most likely because most apps still look for that path by default currently.

The talk about rotating the phone is a strange one to me. But then again its early and I've been up since 4 de-icing planes (its winter in the midwest, yay) so I'm not in such a great state at the moment ;)

When and why do we need to rotate the phone to landscape on the homescreen??? I've never seen a need for it. Ever. The only time my OG Droid is in landscape is in specific apps where its handy like the browser etc. Even then, I've found myself preferring portrait lately with out even thinking about it. Running ADWex my phone doesn't auto rotate on the homescreen. It makes perfect sense for the SGN to rotate when its connected via HDMI/MHL because that is the orientation of the end display (TV). Same for docks- I'm willing to bet the homescreen will rotate when its docked up.

If someone cares to dig around for some settings pics perhaps we could find a setting toggle that would put some folks at ease. (Toggle auto rotate)

Ok, back to bed. Kind of hope every other flight cancels today... Good morning everyone!

i think one of the main reasons many of us want it to rotate is for the landscape dock, which in doesnt seem to be the case in the photos but doesnt make sense as to why it wouldnt so you could use it an a clock/weather station as well

That's exactly the reason.

The writeable portion of the internal memory is called "sdcard".

It might be worth repeating to avoid more disappointments, but one of the two Corporate VZW stores I went to yesterday said the GNex was delayed beyond 12/8 with no indication of a new release date. The sales guy I spoke to said they had heard earlier in the day that the launch was delayed again and when he looked at another sales guy, that guy nodded and said they didn't give a reason for the delay or a new date.

What can I tell you other than both these guys looked & sounded sincere. I tend to believe them.

Sales guys. They were likely more interested in selling you a Razr or Rezound than giving you any positive info on the Nexus.

Reps are known to referencing rumors as gospel truth and/or outright lie to you to try to get you to buy another phone right then and there. I wouldn't worry a whole bunch about it.

I guess I'll have to re-watch those videos to see if it does. I wasn't paying close enough attention. IN dock yes- if it doesn't rotate that would be pretty ridiculous (same goes for car dock). I was referring to just using the phone in-hand. I don't see the need to view the homescreen in landscape.

edit: Just re-viewed the video demos of the docks. They do not display in landscape. Very odd indeed. Again, hopefully there's a setting toggle to enable/disable that they did not switch on.
