Moto Smart Controller

I'm considering getting one but only see one place on google that sells them and $150 is about 2x what I'd be willing to pay. Where did you find it and how much did it cost? Looks very cool though. Please let us know what you think of it.

Amazon has it listed at $99 but it is temporarily out of stock:(

Verizonwireless lists the same price (doesn't say anything about being out of stock):

Well I got it today and have been playing with it for a few hours.........it is COOL!!!! It does take some getting used to and i am still learning everything that can be done with it. The call quality is awesome compared to my bluetooth headphones. Being able to control everything from across the room is great. You could do the many of the same things with a normal Bluetooth mouse, but the droid buttons are convienient and the call and voice to text features rock as well.

I bought mine through Verizon. I couldn't find it at the stores or online, but was able to order it over the phone. It was 80 bucks with tax and they waved the overnight shipping for me. It is listed through Verizon for $99 as well. It is worth it in my opinion. Glad I bought it for sure!!!

So I moved my HD Dock closer to the TV since I have the controller now. What I found was that the voice to text feature was not originating at the controller microphone. I just happened to be close enough to my phone that the phones microphone was picking up my voice. I did some research and the program needed to use the voice to text feature through the controller is MotoSpeak which is a free download from the Market. The problem is that the smart controller is not supported yet. In speaking with Motorola support, it will be added shortly.

I still love this remote. I do think it should be fully functional prior to its release since all of the tutorial videos I have seen regarding it show the speech to text feature working. Tech support says it may be a couple of weeks for the software upgrade.

It is amazing to me how little any of the Verizon or Motorola support people knew about this product. None had any information on it at all. There is almost no information online regarding this accessory. No pissed, just something worth noting.

So the voice search feature works best with third party apps like Vlingo. I found that using this app with the controller works in the following way.

When the app is installed, press and hold the search key on the remote. There will be a popup on the phone with option of Vlingo and Voice Actions. Choose Vlingo, I set it to be the default for my own preference to take one step away in the future. Then just speak, Vlingo has several preset command words that you use. The microphone audio will be picked up on the Smart Controller not the phone.

The Google Voice Actions application from Google does NOT allow the Bluetooth audio to be used so it will not work.

So try it out works for me

One other thing I found that was helpful for me was that the mouse cursor speed can be adjusted, to do that go into the Bluetooth Settings menu, look for the Motorola RZ100 with the little mouse icon, press and hold this. A popup window will appear with track speed settings, click on that and adjust as needed..

Good luck...

After playing with it a bit more I have decided that making this purchase was WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I am using the Vlingo program for voice to text and it has been working great. I also went to walmart and bought an $11.00 wireless USB keyboard and plugged the USB dongle in the HD Dock and the keyboard worked right away without any setup or driver issues. It is a complete system now and I am really happy with the results. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
