Well are you running a2sd? Do you have an sd-ext? If not then it's going to error if you don't have that partition.

you need to also wipe sd ext if your partitioned. it is not really necessary, but i find that if you do not then you will get errors like that or your apps will not load properly.

Thanks for the easy guide, got my phone rooted last night, now its time to take off some bloatware. Seems there is so much to learn about rooting. The last phone I had was PRE, the preware was like a one stop shop for developer stuff, is there something similar for android?

Please Help! I rooted my phone and all was fine... I decided i wanted to do the sprint wi-fi tether and did the rom and mof. it never loaded so i had a mik g rom on my sd card so i flashed it well now my phone wont go back to the original rom. i tried going into my backups in hboot and they tell me that something went wrong and it wont backup so i am so confused please please help me

what did you wipe before flashing the rom? and the hboot will always show a no image or wrong image message. can you get to recovery?

i wiped dalvik and cache like it said to. when you say recovery do you mean after hboot then recovery?

ok so if you can get to recovery then all is good. all you need to do is wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data and re-flash the rom.

also what recovery are you on? you might want to switch recovery to amon ra, if you have not already.

also i would read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. there are some sections that go over how to flash a rom, making nandroids, and how to get everything setup before and after flashing a rom.

I wiped everything. I am on amon ra and i have read the guide. I still had points that i am having issues with obviously. Then when i started having issues i deleted the two roms i was having issues with off my sd card so they are no longer there so my phone booted up to android and nothing is there now what do i need?

download or if you still have a rom on your computer still you can just transfer that over to the sd card then wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data then flash the rom.

EDIT: Just saw the big bold letters in the instructions and feel stupid. Anyways everything worked and I'm rooted thanks for the help.

I had to get my phone back to stock roms now i am trying to root it again and i am at the cmd stage and i am getting "waiting on device" and i was going to root like i have before.

do you have the driver installed? do you have usb debugging turned on your phone?

ok I have unrooted by the guide and now have no recovery nothing has worked please help.

I am not trying to root until i get the recovery back. I would like a complete phone before i try rooting it and brick it

Theoretically you won't have a recovery until you root. When you root a custom recovery replaces the current one your Evo has. With your hboot you'll need to root using Revolutionary.

When you root, that's what gives you recovery, as far as I knew. Odds of bricking it are pretty slim. Can you get booted into the phone? ie see what version of android you are running?
