***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

As much I want this phone and I have been waiting patiently for it, the more I read the more I have doubts. This phone no longer seems to be the vanilla pure android experience that this phone should be. With the addition of VZW bloatware and the blocking of Google Wallet I am wondering how much pull VZW has that they are able to make changes on a Nexus that the other carriers have not.

BTW 3rd shifters rock!!

If I recall correctly Sprint had a few apps loaded on the Nexus as well so this is not unprecedented. I already installed and checked SDK and unlocking and rooting should be a breeze (now if there is any encryption then I will be upset). Even without root we can disable those apps at the very least.

Besides, what are our other options if sticking with VZW? This is the best we can get at this point in terms of pure android on VZW and I highly doubt that there will be anything similar anytime soon. I'm really looking forward to this.

Good morning everyone!

So I've officially gotten SICK of all the hide tags. Can you guys please put a simple two word description of what you're hiding before the tag?

I see a whole bunch of hides from BB and others, but I don't know if I want to read them or not. I'm probably missing out, but I don't want to click a million buttons.

So I guess the OT poll was useless, huh?

:(

What bothers me is if carriers can make changes to the Nexus then it is no longer pure Google and no different then the hundred of other android phones.

YES! Can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. I've been trying to figure out how I can get out of work for a few hours when this finally does launch. I feel like an idiot!

Also, are there supposed to be TWO pics of the retail packaging in the OP? One seems to have a broken link. Can anyone link to the original? I'm also assuming that the boxes in the background are all Nexus as well for this particular store (these ARE stock in a store right?), so there SEEMS to be a decent amount of them.

These seem to be warehouse pics, not in-store stock.

According to the leaked email, they will be shipping to stores today.

I agree, best we can get at this point.

Yes Dear, on my way. :p

It is pathetic that after only 5 years of marriage that communication has broken down to this. Verizon see what you have reduced my marriage to...release the darn phone already!

So this is what it took to bring me out of lurking. Good night Nexicans!

Nice to see you join our ranks. Welcome!

Rooting no. Unlocking the bootloader Yes.

Also, First post :D And I was ninja'ed.

Welcome to the insanity!

I find it kind of funny so many people are interested in (rooting/unlocking) a phone when they have never experienced the operating system (ICS) and may love it the way it is already. But I guess it all get's boring after a while, and separates the experience from the iclowns.

I think a lot of us want to root so we can do nandroid backups and use titanium for restoration of apps and their data. Not so much because of wanting to change ICS. IMO

hi guys!
im a first time android buyer here. upgrading from a 5 year old flip phone to the G-Nexus. so excited!

i have a question about the bootloader. i am 100% new to android but not new to tech. i want the full functionality of my phone. tethering, primarily.

any tips and tricks for a newbie? and my only other question is- with the nexus, unlocking the bootloader is akin to rooting right? will doing so alter the ICS experience in any way? i want to experience the ICS that everyone is raving about but i really want to be able to tether.

thanks in advance!

Welcome!

I'm so happy to finally see a confirmation. I've got Friday off (was planning it anyway), so I'm liable to be at Verizon when they open. Can't wait to get my new Nexus in my grubby left paw. :)

Yay for another south paw! (except I actually use my phone in my right paw) :D

~~~~~~~~~~~
Gooooooood morning sexy Nexians! Will tasty Tuesday bring us official ice cream sandwich info from verizon? I surely hope so. As always let's remember to play nice - the sandbox is for everyone and when you kick sand at others it hurts.
And for those who weren't up late last night, there is a lounge thread started for after the inevitable locking of this most awesome thread. And the bonus is that because it's the lounge there is no reason for hide tags. :D
I have to wonder if the 9th is real then where is the official announcement? VZW really sucks at marketing.
I have to agree. Changing the title of the thread? Really? Its not confirmed by any means until Verizon comes out and says it. Could the leak be legit? Sure. But, based on all the leaks and what not before, it certainly isn't confirmed.
