I don't think that it's mandatory for the salesperson to activate the device prior to it leaving the store, a friend of mine was able to walk out of a corporate store with a Bionic without it activated, although I'm unsure if it was on a contract.

I'm going to request that they do not activate mine at purchase. I have 2-step verification on my Google account and would feel most comfortable activating (and deactivating my current device) in front of my computer while logged into my Google account.
I wanna do this too. would you think the lte sim card will make this more difficult?

What's the best argument to get your activation fee waived?

I originally paid for it when I brought my OWN phone to VZW and retroactively had it credited on my bill because I work for CSX or because I was month to month, the girl couldn't really tell me but she credited me on a month's bill.

I really don't want to pay $35 for something I can do myself.

I think that it activates the sim as the first thing it does. so you wouldnt have to log in, which would make that excuse irrelevant

Is anyone else still a bit hesitant to believe these release dates we are hearing/seeing?

If they don't release the phone this Friday based on what I am seeing here and after speaking to my local corp VZW store tonight, VZW, Google, Nexus and all can kiss my arse good by as I won't wait any longer. I don't care how good this phone is going to be.

Another long time lurker checking in, thanks for all the info over the months everyone.

Two quick questions: Whats the deal with charging the battery right out of the box? Ive never understood whether Li-Ion batteries were supposed to be charged right away or drained completely right away or drained to 15%, etc. Also, is it Friday yet?

Bad news guys,
I heard from an inside source that Verizon is having too much fun screwing with us and wants to delay the phone again so they are canceling Friday.

No, I don't mean just the launch - since the cat is already out of the bag they are going to have to cancel the actual day of the week.

This week's Friday is going to be renamed Thursday2 and then we will go direct to Saturday. The calendar date will be renumbered to 12/8.5/2011. When asked about the launch they will respond "We were going to release the Galaxy Nexus on 12/9 but that day no longer exists. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Good question, I will have the same problem... Its really why I was hoping for a pre-order. Now I am going to have to actually work to not pay it.

How about: "I'm going to just go to another store or buy it online. You work on commission right?"

I called my 3 local corp stores around omaha same "we dont have any info" answer. Anyone else from around here have any luck? It would suck if east and west get them in stock first and us in the middle have to wait till monday.

I'm dead in the middle of the country (Lubbock, TX), I played with and confirmed picking it up on Friday. Just think some stores got stock today and others will get it tomorrow/Thursday, that's the case with my store. He said they usually get the phones the day before but that the demo usually comes 2 or 3 (this case) before.

I just came back from a crazy scene at my local Verizon Wireless. I walked in to inquire about the Galaxy Nexus and I see Shawn Michaels in the store doing the very same thing! His convo with the VZW salesman went like this.

SM: Any solid date on when the Galaxy Nexus will be out?

VZW: We haven't heard anything concrete yet unfortunately, we have the same info you do from the internet.

SM: Really brother, I've been waiting for this phone for 2 months and your company hasn't said a damn thing.

VZW: I was waiting too, I feel your pain. I actually got a Droid Razr, which is an exceptional phone. Can I interest you in one?

SM: I'm just a Nexi Boy

Me in background: Nexi Boooooooooooyyyyyyyy

SM: Don't want no Droid Toy

Me in background: Droid Toooooooooyyyyyyyyy

He then proceeded to Sweet Chin Music the salesman, walk into the back (Where they already had the Nexus in stock), and forced him to ring up the sale which half conscious. I reached my hand out, asking if I could see Shawn's phone before he walked out and he said "Hands of the merchandise". He then left the store. I then talked to the Salesman, who gave me the same pitch he gave Shawn about getting a Razr.

I replied: I am a Galaxy Nexican, I'll wait till the 9th like every man.

I don't know if this is true but it definitely made me lol

I would have had the whole scene on video but my struggling OG droid crashes every time I try to record anything on it. I think all the overclocking has taken it's toll.

Some people have done studies to show the first charge or two can be important.
