***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Probably because Apple doesn't announce anything until they're finished testing and ready to go. Unfortunately, Verizon didn't have that option: Samsung and Google announced this phone back in October, mainly because they needed to respond to the iPhone 4S launch.

In retrospect, I think that was a mistake. If anybody is to blame for this messy launch, it's Samsung and Google for announcing too soon. It's now clear that, at that point, the LTE version was nowhere near ready to release, and Verizon wasn't ready to release it. Samsung and Google should not have announced it until it was closer to ready.

Then again, recall our UK cousins have been running the Nexus happily for some time now, since November.

The higher you go in the radio spectrum the more unstable things become. I know that Motorola took the better part of a decade to make our 800mhz acceptable.

I *think* VZW uses 700MHz for LTE, so it's actually at a lower frequency than the rest of their network. I know 1700MHz is also used for LTE, but I think that's just Metro, though I don't know what ATT's new LTE network uses.

No way this is true. Releasing a phone is a big deal, it's complicated considering all the logistics, advertising, support, etc. that has to happen. They wouldn't do this just to "prove a point" or trick us. If it's delayed, there is probably a real concrete reason.

This late in the game, I agree. A lot of parts are moving too fast now to all of a sudden just stop. To pull a release date this quickly indicates they may have a serious reason for doing so. What the reason could be is, well, unknown to us.

at some point last night, i was kicked off 4g (here in NYC) on my Rezound, and havent been able to get back on since (i've done the usual, switching around power settings, restarting, etc).

If your issues are wide spread (and its starting to sounds like they are) this is probably the exact reason the phone has been delayed.

No sane person would launch a new "ANYTHING" if the service it uses isn't working

Ugh. My desire for this phone is waning.

Agreed.

I know VZW hasn't announced a release date so it technically has not been delayed, but this seems like it has been an awful launch process.

I remember the Google exec saying the Galaxy Nexus will arrive "sooner than you expect." Well my initial expectations were the end of November. It's December 7th and we have no indication of a firm launch date. It could be Friday, it could be the 15th, it could be January for all we know. At some point, I'm going to throw in the towel and get a different phone. The longer I wait, the less excited I am about this phone.

That's the problem, everyone is sick and tired of waiting to see what VZW is going to do. Not hating on your post and I agree, but VZW is really really killing themselves on this phone launch.

Yep, they are, which is why I am leaning on the side of whatever the reason is, it is serious. Verizon can respond to inquiries that a date has never been announced, but they know that isn't fooling anyone. They know they are hurting from this. So its got to be a major issue with the phone. I think whichever OTA they were going to push upon activation isn't ready yet. That is my #1 possibility right now.

got a text today from my buddy who is a VZW Corporate Store manager (who had me scheduled with an 11AM appt tomorrow to pick up my GNex):

They just put a hold on the nexus launch I will let you know as soon as i have a new date...

i know it's been 'confirmed' here already, just sharing my story.

FWIW, i got a text from him 11/18 telling me that the scheduled launch date was 12/08 and that he'd update me as soon as he had info. my next txt from him regarding the phone was yesterday to schedule me with an appointment to pick it up. Seems like he's been on the level with me in regards to the Nexus from the beginning, so I've got no doubts about him being credible for me.

Agreed. I'm getting sick of this to the point that if it comes out any time after this weekend, I'm going to just wait and see what the Transformer Prime is like in person before I make a decision. I can afford both, but I can't buy both (the wife) if I want to go on vacation next month.

I'll probably wait until AT&T comes out with an HD screen on something, then I'll jump. They've got great 4G in Chicago.

Called My Costco Wireles Advocates Kiosk guy and he told me less than 2 minutes ago,

"It was announced to us just today by our offices it will be available on the 9th". I asked, of December? He said "Yes Friday".

Yeh, I come off and numb and condescending, but I am human eh?

I hope for the sake of discrediting those blogs it does.

Just checked with my Wireless Advocates (Costco) guy as well. He just now (12:20PM EST) told me that his system shows they will begin selling them on the 9th. It was apparent that he knew this before I called, because he did not hesitate in his answer. He says they do not have them in stock yet, but he fully expected them before 10AM Friday or when they get their daily delivery before noon at the latest.

I'm still taking Friday off to spend some quality time with my very own brand-new Nexus.

I'm assuming there's at least a few people here that have 4G/LTE phones right? Can you confirm or deny the LTE problems in your area? Could engadget/droid-life/phandroid/someone start a poll to see how many people might be affected so we can get an idea of how widespread the issue is?

3 rezounds amd stratosphere at house. 2 rezounds won't connect to 4g.1 rezound and stratosphere are on 4g.

Went to Verizon and it was same. bout 50% of the 4g capable devices were on 4g the other half were stuck on 3g.

This is in Maryland. Strong 4g.
