Root Ace Hack Kit no longer available

So it looks like attn1 has removed the AAHK from xda.

[TOOL] AAHK Discontinued as of 05-12-2011

Appears that people's inability to read and follow simple instructions has driven him over the brink. That's a shame b/c it was a great tool. Don't know if it's available anywhere else or if it will be made available again in the future. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if another method to root the Inspire pops up.

They'll likely have go the long route (aka no one click

) and methods via the Desire HD way. Theres some guides on xda and the cyanogen wiki has a way as well.

As far as the hack kit goes. I still have a copy (kept it incase i'd ever need it) but don't plan on distributing it.

It's really sad people couldn't read the effen manual and follow directions. It was really straightforward and simple.

I thought I read something recently in the AAHK thread on xda that the newer Inspires, those that come loaded with GB, are slightly different and the older methods to root don't work. I may be wrong on that though. I, too, kept the version I used. Luckily it's one of the earlier "one-click" versions of the kit. Not sure if it would work on the newer phones though. And I can't remember if the kit downloads any files during the rooting process. If so, those may no longer be available either. I know when I had to restore to stock it had to download the stock ROM RUU. Good thing I kept that too.

Hello. I am sure people are tired of hearing this line "I am new to this". But I can't stress this enough. I am new at this. I have researched this, but I would like some clarification before I go ahead and do this. I realize that the xda forum was closed and the method was removed (about an hour before I was going to attempt it). The thread on this site by Talderon titled "Updated: [08/31/2011] Inspire 4G, rooting - Windows/Linux/OSX"... is that the same ace hack kit used by attn1 on xda? if so, I can use that and follow Talderon's method to root my Inspire, right? I have a few questions that I was hoping to get answered. I have read the effin manual and the procedure on here, but I am not getting a few things.

I'm not sure how old the version that is linked in that thread is. The newer versions of the hack kit automatically creates the gold card needed to root. So the instructions in the thread are definitely outdated, however may apply to the kit that is there. I would recommend studying the effin manual that's included in whichever version you download. And follow the directions to the letter. The older versions of the kit were a bit more complicated than the more recent ones. And realize if you run into problems during the process, it may be difficult to find the support you need to fix it right now. You may be better off waiting a while to see if the dev makes the kit available again.

are there any threads or kits that you would recommend right now? like links to them. because that seemed like the best one to do, and it's gone. I went to try Bubby's Simple One Click Root Kit but that link is invalid. it also seems that it's outdated. do you know of any up to date ones? If not, i might try the one referencing the attn1 ace hack kit

No. The kit was just taken down yesterday. It really was the best option. And I'm thinking a lot of the regular contributors don't even realize it's gone yet. Again, you may want to wait a while and see if anything new comes up.

According to a post I just read on xda, the AAHK is the only tool that would root an Inspire that shipped with GB. So until someone else develops something or attn1 makes the kit available again, rooting the Inspire may not be possible.

I do have one question. If I want to flash a custom ROM, do I put it into the folders before I start the rooting process?

Normally I would say it doesn't matter, because for the past few months the Hack Kit automatically created the gold card w/o wiping the data on the sd card and it also left the current ROM intact. So after the rooting process was complete, you had a working phone. You could then flash a custom ROM after backing up the current one.

I never used the older versions where you needed to create the gold card yourself prior to running the hack kit. I think that process formatted the sd card and I'm not sure if you can have files on the card before running the kit. I haven't looked at the version of the kit that's available in the thread you mentioned so I don't know for sure what it needs. If the effin manual doesn't say anything about putting a ROM in a folder before beginning the process, than don't worry about it. Once you get it rooted you can put the ROM on your sd card and flash it.

That makes me sad. I used AAHK to root my Inspire and was pleased by how easy and simple it was.

Lucky for me, I still have my copy!

EDIT: It says "Ace Hack Kit returning soon." I think we can assume it'll be back.

OK so the version that I have does not automatically create a goldcard for you but my question is will I still be able to use this? In other words..using the version I have will I still be able to generate a gold card image at the site that generates it for you? And also I think that the kit I have takes you to a link for read the effin manual. does this mean that it will not bring up the manual? stupid questions I know. I could just get into the kit and see but it is on a computer that I dont use any more.

Sorry. I can't answer that. I can't remember if the kit has to download anything during the process. If so, access to those servers probably isn't available either. Unless perhaps if you've run the kit before and all the files it needs are saved with the kit. I believe the effin manual is an html page, not just a link. So you should be able to read it in your browser offline.

And I'm pretty sure I read something that the newer Inspires that shipped with GB required a different process than the Froyo ones. So it's possible that the old versions of the Hack Kit won't work on those at all. Not positive on that though.

I'm not a developer nor do I know anything about how it all works. I just know that the AAHK worked on my phone flawlessly for rooting, restoring to stock, and rooting again.

I should still have a version from mid-sept (on a laptop at other office) that does auto-goldcard gen. It worked fine for me. If anyone needs it let me know, I'll be there later today.

Use at your own risk obviously, there's been updates to aahk since then, I don't know what but like I said it worked for me.

I just read a post on xda from att1 stating he's not okay with people distributing copies of his program. He'll be making it available again soon, so I think people should just wait. They can take the time to read about it and learn so maybe this doesn't have to happen again. It's up to you, but I think out of respect for all the work that att1 has put in to developing and supporting this tool, please don't offer it up.

[TOOL]Avanced ACE Hack Kit

Att1 has made the AAHK available once again. Please, if you're new to rooting, don't know what it rooting is, don't know how to root, then do some research on your own. READ UNTIL YOU DO KNOW. There are numerous threads here and on xda that will get you to the point where you can run the AAHK without issue. I assure you, any question you may have most likely has been asked and answered before. Read the OP of the Hack Kit thread on xda. Read the effin manual. Read 'em both again. Understand the risks. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Rooting this phone is a complex process that att1 has done a lot of work to make as simple as possible for us. But you need to do your part and learn what you're doing.

If you do run into problems during the rooting process, there is a support channel in the OP of the Hack Kit thread on xda. There is a link in the effin manual to get support. There is no need to start a new thread here or at xda asking for help.

After reading the manual I have a a question or 2 before I start.

1. I am using the OTA Gingerbread rom. The hack kit takes it back to/installs Froyo, correct?
2. Under the optional menus, there is "ATT Gingerbread radio" , does this put Gingerbread on the phone or just a radio?
3. Once the phone is rooted I want to uninstall the bloatware, "Blockbuster, Asphalt 5, Navigator, etc etc. Does root give me permission in "manage applications to uninstall this stuff?
4. Really want to install Sense 3.0, is this easy with root? or is it drawn out.

I did end up using the other method to root my phone. I am excited to see the new ace hack kit up on xda. However, looking at it, it says that I shouldn't have rooted my phone with that because it came with the gingerbread 2.3 stock, slowing down bootloader. I didn't know if it would be advantageous to use the new hack kit to turn my phone back into stock with the stock radios and s-on and all that, and the re-root it with newer hack kit.

1. No, it roots your phone with its stock GB. You have the option to go back to froyo but just if you say so.
2. I guess that's to change your radio, only if you want to.
3. I'm not sure. Maybe there's apps that can do that and you must be rooted to use those apps. I simply installed a different ROM.
4. I wanted Sense 3.0 to, and that's only possible installing a custom ROM. I'm using Android Revolution HD, but there's CoreDroid, Virtuous Unity and some others out there.

In regards to #3, I have rooted using Ace HK and have not found a way to remove the bloatware. There is no option to remove it in "Manage Applications" and Easy Uninstaller does not list it as uninstallable.

The option to uninstall those apps isn't in "Manage Applications". You need to use Titanium Backup to uninstall.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to state that it is still up on XDA. Yes it was removed for a while but the great Dev decided to put it back. Just remember to read the WHOLE manual before you start it. As long as you read the whole thing then you will not have any issues
