Help Bluetooth dropouts

Hi All,

I am helping my Mom pick out her first smartphone, and we are probably going to buy a used phone so she doesn't have to go on contract just yet.

I've done a lot of research and it seems like the Charge is the best of Verizon's first generation 4g phones (especially battery-wise). Most of the criticism I've seen is that is a little laggy, but I know I can easily fix that with Root/ROM/Launcher.

However, my mom's good friend had the Charge and had to return it due to constant bluetooth dropouts. I've researched this more, and it seems to be a fairly widespread problem.

Are any of you having this problem? Is there a way to fix it through software or is it just a buggy bluetooth module?

Solid bluetooth is pretty important to my mom, so if this is a problem I'll probably just get her something reliable like my Droid X.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Had a Droid X. Bluetooth worked fine. In my Charge it was not good. However, Tech support is well aware of he problem, and feels the new Gingerbread operating system is the fix for it. In ALL other repects the Charge has been great for me.

I am awaiting the update anytime, but everyone who's phone has it, whether manually installed or OTA, seems very happy with results.

Over the long Thanksgiving hoilday weekend I had opportunities to demo my Charge to a numberof I-Phone people in my family, and to owners of other Droids. My Charge impressed every one of them with it's speed, comparable apps, and especially the beautiful display. By all reports, the Gingervread OS update should make it even better.

I really love the phone. Hoping Bluetooth issue is fixed within days, or maybe even hours.....

It's a software issue. I found bluetooth streaming to be horrible out of the box, but it has been perfectly fine with custom ROMs. Not sure if GB fixes this as I haven't updated to the stock GB ROM yet. Another thing, in my experience on this phone and others, don't leave wifi enabled while streaming bluetooth. Perhaps you can enable both if you're connected to a wifi network, but seemingly when you're NOT on wifi, the periodic network search seems to always cause hiccups with bluetooth streaming.

GB update broke bluetooth
My major compalint with the phone b4 the update was the bluetooth problems with voice dialer.
I could work around that. Now with the update the vocie dialer works fine but the bluetooth keeps disconecting.. sheesh. went into the verizon store and rep said they had the same probem and there would be an update to fix it..Not an issue with the headset. Since I never believe anythng a vZw rep says, was wondering if anyone had a similar experience

Thanks for sharing your experience, rorkin. It seems like only some people have/notice the problem.

I'm actually surprised how Verizon acknowledged that there was a problem in your case; I would totally expect them to just blame the headset. That's definitely news to me that your rep said an update was in the works. That would be cool.

Even though there isn't a magic bullet for this issue yet, here are some places where people are experiencing the problem and a few of the things they tried (something about freezing the bluetooth service seemed to work for some people):

Thanks for the input but these threads really do not address my issue..
I am talking about the phone to earpiece connection which simply randomly drops out.. Nothing to do with the car..
