Did you read that on their website? I thought it was in January sometime. That would suck if we miss out on the double data!
Brittany: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Anthony: Hello, is the 4GB Data Package for $30 a limited time offer?
Anthony: If so, when does the deal end.
Brittany: I'd be happy to assist you.
Anthony: Thank you.
Brittany: It is limited time, but I am not sure of an end date.
Anthony: Is there any way to find out?
Brittany: No, there is not a set date yet.
Anthony: I'm looking to switch from AT&T, but I want the Galaxy Nexus :)
Anthony: What happened to the Dec 9th release date?
Brittany: That device is not actually out yet.
Brittany: We do not have a release date set, either.
Brittany: I wish we did!
Anthony: I see.
Brittany: I do apologize!
Anthony: From what I know, all Verizon stores received the Galaxy Nexus, but now they aren't allowed to sell it on the 9th.
Anthony: Do you have any information on what happened?
Brittany: I have no information regarding the Nexus, except that you may put your name on the e-mail list.
Anthony: I understand.
Brittany: Is there another device you are interested in?
Anthony: Not really, we have a good 75,000 posts on the Androidforums.com waiting for this device.
Anthony: It's pretty crazy!
Brittany: I know, I get about 4000000 questions a day concerning that device.
Anthony: Haha, that's great.
Anthony: One more thing.
Brittany: Alright, sure.
Anthony: I noticed on Amazon Wireless the end of the double data promo was on the 15th of December.
Anthony: Now there's no more date.
Anthony: 4GB Smartphone Web Browsing and Email (2GB FREE) Enjoy 4GB total data access Surf the web and check and send personal e-mails when you

Theory 5: Verizon corp is trying to "kill" the Friday release date because of all the leaks and they don't want a rush on stock (or Samsung doesn't want lines for their phone because of their recent ad campaign) - they'll still soft release on Friday with little/no fanfare.

Oh yes, that one I forgot!

THEORY 5 - Verizon is purposefully trying to squash leaks and prevent a rush on stock. This one is similar to THEORY 1, in that it sounds good as a conspiracy theory, but really makes no logical sense. Despite the seemingly world-shattering buzz this phone has gotten on the blogs and forums, the Galaxy Nexus will have nothing of the sort of launch craze that the iPhone has. As others have pointed out, the Nexus is a "geek" phone, and the general public has no awareness of the brand whatsoever. While there may be some lines to get the phone on launch day (there was a line to get the Droid X and Bionic when I purchased them at our local corporate Verizon stores), does anyone really believe Verizon would go through all of this trouble and effort just to squash some leaks two days before launch? IMO, this theory is DEBUNKED.

Maybe the 4G thing does have something to do with it?

My sister texted:

I think this is her opinion.

Verizon can't be that stupid, can they?

I don't follow ... how would that be stupid? Stupid would be to release a high-profile LTE device to customers who are mostly new to LTE, only to have them find that it doesn't work when they get it home. The flood of calls to customer service would be huge (on top of the calls they're already getting), and each and every one of those calls costs Verizon X dollars.

It would be like opening a great new Italian restaurant despite the fact that your pasta shipment didn't arrive on time.

I'm actually very reassured by the possibility that this is all because of a 4G outage. If that's what it is, you know Verizon is pulling out all of the stops to fix it, because it affects ALL of their customers (not just Nexus freaks). And it also means that the stacks of Nexus phones sitting in stores are ready to sell just as soon as Verizon gives the all-clear.

VZW is getting pounded by everyone regarding the GNex release, and the have the balls to post this on fb: "Looking for a new Smartphone or Tablet? Trying to decide on which one to get?"

Gluttons for punishment. Facepalm.

Anthony: Did they possibly extend it?
Brittany: That is possible.
Anthony: For the 300MB data plan it says "Limited time offer, now through 1/15/2012"
Anthony: So I'm slightly confused.
Brittany: That is limited. 300MB is not something we really offer.
Anthony: Yeah, I figured that.
Anthony: Anyways, thank you for your time.
Anthony: I appreciate it.
Brittany: You are welcome! Is there anything else I could do for you?
Anthony: That will be all for now.
Brittany: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great evening!

^ Talked to a rep

I work in a call center, and I know this must be Hell for them. They staff the phones for X amount of traffic, and the web people too. With pushing this off so much and so many people calling in for this phone + people calling in about the outage. I bet they are losing hundreds of thousands of dollars on having to have more reps working and OT right now.

Figure:

The average email chat take about 6 minutes or so from start to end. Every 10 people who ask about the Nexus only, they lose 1hr of chat time. Multiply that by 300 or so people that may chat every day into them and they are losing So much time helping actual customers, that it is in their own best interest to release the phone.

Not to mention callers and store phone calls and visits

Yeah, I understand. My main reason for contacting someone was to ask about the "Data Promo", not to bother them about a release date. I just figured I would ask for the hell of it.

But that's logical so it won't happen.

I do feel bad for the reps though.

I was thinking about this, too, but then I wondered:

If we do get a reseller to sell it to us on Friday, and Verizon hasn't officially released it yet, we won't be able to activate it.

I still might go that route anyway, if possible, just so I can finally have it. It beats walking around with an empty case in your back pocket and pretending. :p

Oh, it'll activate. Pretty sure they have LESS control of such things with the SIMS. They may be able to torch IMEI's or something still, but doubt they would do that to all devices getting unauthorized sales. But it WOULD activate and work atleast for awhile.

Not even sure with the SIM as your account/number identifier they are certain which device it's in at any given moment?? Maybe? Betting EarlyMon or someone has more knowledge than me on such technical matters.

BUT, generally pretty sure just the fact VZW has to move to SIMS with LTE will mean more device freedom going forward in general. For now our devices also have to work on their old CDMA network though so we aren't really freed up and that seems to be the reason SIMs get canonballed so easy and such when trying to activate nonsim older devices.
