Steven: Can you do me a favor?
VZW: Sure, what?
Steven: Well, to tell you the truth, I'm the mod and OP of that famous Gnex thread on AF? Right?
VZW: Oh! Oh! Ok.. Wow. I read your stuff. Nice to meet you. I'm honored to meet you! :)
Steven: Yeah, right, whatever, kid.
VZW: (nervous laugh)
Steven: Listen, you need to me a favor.
VZW: Sure, Mr.58. Anything.
Steven: I have this mega thread on Android Forums, right?
Vzw: Um Hm.
Steven: I need you to delay or make a bogus rumor about there being a delay to up my thread post count, so no one can break my record. Can you do that?
VZW: Yessir, right away sir.
Steven: Thanks, kid.

Wait a second...

incorrect. their were spotty 4g issues starting yesterday, as reported by droid life last night. and if they were made aware by tips from their readers, you best believe that vzw already knew about it far before then

Straight from DL's update:

We know that some of our readers have been experiencing an outage since yesterday afternoon.

Honestly though I would be perfectly fine with them pushing back the release date for the 4g outage (if it lasts till then) if they just said hey look we were going to release it but our network is having issues sorry. You can expect it as soon as we get it up and running.

I must respectfully disagree. It's not like the phone is useless. It's not 4G or nothing. It'd be like buying a gorgeous HD tv, but the cable guy calls and says he has to cancel until Monday. But in the meantime you can use the HD antenna that came with your set.

Better than nothing.

What would you rather have:

Walk in on Friday and finally be able to buy the Nexus. The rep tells you "4G works fine, but there is a nation-wide outage right now, and we're expecting it to be up and running on Monday morning at the latest. In the mean time, you can still use 3G and wifi no problem."

Or would you rather suffer through the crap we're going through right now?

They should just give us the damn thing and let us choose for ourselves whether we want to buy it knowing that 4G is spotty for a weekend than to retract December 9 and slink back into the shadows watching us squirm.

This! I want THIS! Let me rock 3G for a few days. No biggie! Still haven't received a text from my guy saying anything about a delay, so I'm for sure still going in on Friday. Now will I walk out with a phone or no? Guess we have to wait to find out. :D

VZ says:

Verizon Wireless engineers have been working to resolve an issue with 4GLTE service that is affecting some customers’ 4G devices. 3G data and voice devices are unaffected. All customers’ voice calls and text messages continue to go through. In the past 24 hours, some 4GLTE customers have reported their devices are operating on 3G data service where they would normally get 4G. Some have reported no issues, others that data access is either intermittent or unavailable. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Doesn't seem enough to push a launch back.

Something's up, and it's not 4G. They can't get their act together.

Just spoke face/face to cellular connection employee. She knew exactly what the GNex was and offered to put me on her reserve list. I asked specifically about stock on hand and Friday 9th availability. She confirmed both and even paused to check email for recent changes...and confirmed Friday 9th a second time....

FWIW...

My TCC store rep said it was delayed. Weird. Did she have it in stock?

Yeah, sounds like they have no idea what's going on. I'm blaming Apple!!! And whomever mentioned it was the ghost of Steve Jobs earlier might be right... if you don't believe in ghosts then it's Apple doing what they can to prevent the Galaxy Nexus from being released. (this is a joke btw) :p

It's obvious now that the MotoRazr has indeed become aware. It has sensed the threat that is the Galaxy Nexus and is doing its best to stop it's launch. It's only a matter of time until the gov't starts up its international security system and the Razr takes control. Friday is Judgement Day, and there is only one thing that can save us.

I know that if they were to release with the 4g not working I'd still bite and buy one regardless of the issue. But I'm just stating that if that were the reason for the delay and they were to at the very least issue a statement I'd understand.

Apparently I cannot "thank" at the moment. So, "Thanks" Han. I agree completely. And if anyone remembers the RIM debacle from earlier this year, that mess took quite some time to clean up. As did the last AT&T service disruption. Then there was a T-Mo issue last year if I remember. There is no guarantee this is a weekend fix. That being said, with as long as I have been with VZW, I've never EVER had anything negative to say about their network, its service and quality. I don't recall ever having a data outage. So the law of averages has caught up with them/us. Sucks, but here we are.

Except 3G isn't working right right now either. A few of my friends with iPhones have confirmed not having service most of the day up in the northeast.

It was me. Steve wants an even playing field. 3g is the only way for that to happen. He plays dirty even dead.
