***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Okay, I told you all there would be good news at 8 PM EST and here it is! While it may not be good news for your personally, if this doesn’t give you a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, then I’m not sure what will… other than maybe a Nexus in your hand

Well folks, we did it – thanks to YOU!

In this season of giving, I think we can all agree that we have received a great deal of enjoyment, entertainment and information from what started as a single Pre-Release post on August 23rd. We are now past 68,000 posts in this thread, the receiving is just about over… and it’s high time we gave something back.

A quick disclaimer and apology to those who wanted to participate and would have, but didn’t know about it: I am profusely sorry. But please understand that we were somewhat restricted in who we could contact and how. So if we managed to do all this without almost anybody knowing… then, actually, it was a raging success.

Let's face it: Moderating a forum is tough work. Moderating an EPIC forum - with tens of thousands of posts and over a MILLION views is really tough work!

And while we would never intentionally want to slight EarlyMon, OTD or any of the other Mods in the thread, I think almost all of us can agree that STEVEN58 has been our Main Moderator and go-to guy from post #1 of this record breaking thread.

No amount of hitting that “Thanks” button can ever adequately show our deep appreciation for the time and extraordinary effort Steven has put into moderating us, keeping us updated, keeping us (mostly) on topic, and keeping us off each other’s throats.

(Except OTD, who actually enjoys being at other people’s throats… but that’s a different story… :p )

Steven58 has done such an incredible job as lead Moderator in this monumental and record-shattering thread that many of us did the unthinkable. We snuck around. We PM’d one another. We got RARE permission from Rob & Phases to do something that, to my knowledge, has never been done… and may never happen again. So, with further ado…

Steven? Boss?

A bunch of us chipped in and we’re buying you your Galaxy Nexus!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

That’s right! We messaged one another, whispered behind your back, scrounged up spare change from our sofas, and contributed to the cause. And we gathered up enough money to get you your beloved Nexus!

And while I may have done the legwork and gathered the dimes and quarters, I can’t take credit for the idea. You can blame a kind-hearted Premium Member named jruther2 for that one. He approached me, I approached Phases, who consulted with Rob and gave us rare permission to proceed under limited conditions. Conditions were met and our objective was achieved!

Anyway Steven, your Nexus is officially PAID FOR! Whoo hoooooo

Thanks to ALL our Moderators for doing an excellent job in maintaining this thread… but the trophy has to go to Steven, our head coach and Main Man!

So back to our regularly scheduled programming of joy and cheer for everyone. And just to make sure I include everyone THIS time:

Merry non-descript Winter Solsti-Christma-Kwaanz-ukkah! :D

Well done sirs and maams. Well done.

So, I have a couple of tidbits to share, two phone calls, less than an hour apart.

At 1557, I called Costco to see how things were looking. My contact there said that they had just been visited by their District Manager and they discussed the Nexus at length. She said "we definitely will have them on Friday, I don't know how many but Friday is the day". I told her about all of the info we've been hearing about the delay. She said he was very clear that they would they would be selling it on Friday and she had heard nothing about any delays. Good to go, right?

Not so fast, Skippy.

My VZW corporate store dude called me at 1646. He was sorry to inform me that the Friday launch had been delayed indefinitely, with no information on when it would be released but he will be calling again just as soon as he hears something.

So, ever faithful and optimistic, I'll be at Costco at 10AM Friday. While it is not entirely clear that I'll be leaving Nexus in hand, I may at least be munching those delicious chocolate chip cookies in consolation.

Just had the worst customer service experience with a Verizon manager. Basically, I wad told to go "f" myself. Last night I called about still getting the low app space error on my Incredible after build 4.08. the tech couldn't find anything about the issue. I said it was pretty sad that people on the internet knew more than the techs. I also complained about the joke the Nexus launch had become. He crewed me out for asking even.

While a lot of those techs are not too bright, there is a good contingent of them who know a lot more than you (or I) do. They just cannot tell you what they know. Verizon has a solution to every problem. For example, if I were to complain about lagging, their solution is sometimes to install ATK. Dumb, right? But, even if the rep knew that rooting would fix this issue, he would be fired if if was found out that he was telling customers to root.

On a different note, why complain to a tech about the launch? He not only has nothing to do with it, but he also is not responsible for tracking non technical complaints. I have to be honest, if someone had a problem, called me, then told me I knew nothing, and then lectured me about a problem I had nothing to do with, I would yell at them too.

Did anyone get a lump in their throat and a bit of a dew in their eyes seeing the responses of thanks and congrats roll in? I know I did. Made a somewhat unhappy day look pretty damn bright.

When I realized what chief was announcing, my day turned 180 degrees. I was having an awful day, but now it's the best day I've been here IMO. :)

Well said Chief. Thanks for all of the legwork you did! Also, huge thanks to the ones who had the opportunity to give! What a fantastic community!!!

Thanks for all your hard work and devotion Steven!!!

And thank you for the wonderful idea. I think we have truly crossed the line from forum to family with this act.

I know what he told you but I think thats not entirely true. They could sell and activate a 4G phone in their system, but it just wouldnt get 4G service until that network comes back on. Reason I say that is Radio Shack was still selling 4G phones today.

He said if you're in a 4G saturated area it won't work. I believe him because I heard two people that wanted to buy a RAZR get turned away. I don't think they would turn down sales for the hell of it. Maybe it's a regional thing.

Absolutely awesome gesture Chief and everyone that was involved. It does make me feel very warm and fuzzy. Steven seems like such a great guy and I know today was very tough for him...so this is some good news for him today!

As for Verizon, I think they pulled the date 12/9 info to sniff out the moles...I think they still have every intention of launching the phone on 12/9. I think the twitter people and store managers/CSRs, etc...are getting picked apart and Verizon is doing what they always do...protecting their strategy/business model. I also think they are having a good laugh about the fact that they pulled the date and the LTE stuff is happening (as much as they can laugh about a network problem)...but it just added all the fuel to the fire they needed to convince people 12/9 is not the date and get the rumor mill churning on full speed. Just my two cents...which is usually worth zero cents.
