***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Been lurking in this thread for a little over two months and thought I'd share info from my trip to Verizon store this morning.

Earlier this week I made an appt with the store for Saturday morning to get a GNEX because I'm not able to go tomorrow. The salesperson said he/she would call me if anything came up that I should be concerned about, like that they sold out on Friday. Well after seeing all the delay info yesterday and last night, I stopped into the store this morning to see my salesperson. I said that I'd seen/heard a lot of very discouraging rumors that the phone won't be released this week. I was told that they are aware of the rumors but that everything was still moving forward for this week. I told he/she that I was going to be very upset if I show up for the appt Sat morning for no reason, but I was assured again that I will be able to get the phone.

I know that Verizon salespeople are usually left in the dark and that I'm probably getting my hopes up for no reason, but I thought I'd at least share what I've been told.

Thanks for sharing and I bet the fact that you said you're going to get very upset set them straight! j/k :D

Welcome out of hiding thanks for joining us :)

and ditto for you chemmaan welcome!

I would at least prepare yourself to be very upset.

Which is why VZW didn't get it with the iPhone. Apple went to VZW first to offer the phone, they turned it down. Just think of the dollars VZW lost when they turned down Apple and Apple went to AT&T for three years before they opened it up to other carriers. It's in the billions.

The way I understand it, VZW turned it down because they felt that their network wasn't ready for it and they didn't want to relinquish control (profits) of the app store while their network would be used to transmit that data. Typical ISP BS.

Also, it doesn't seem that AT&T really had any gain from the iPhone. It seemed that it was only used to keep them afloat by keeping subscribers and adding new ones. From some of the details that were discussed WAYYY back, Apple had AT&T by the balls and they weren't really sharing too much of their profit.

I could be wrong about all of this given that I never sat in on a meeting or read an official document, but looking at the past it seems to make sense.

Well, I'm going to lunch. There'd better be a damn release date by the time I get back, or BB is going to be in big trouble.

Your call, guys. Make it happen.

I don't know how BB got in that predicament, but I am afraid we need to start saying our goodbyes...

Goodbye BB.

The phone's not cancelled, if you believe that then you should probably just get an iphone. :p

I think the more realistic thing that's going to happen tomorrow is a lot of people are going to TRY and buy the Galaxy Nexus and during the checkout won't be able to and they'll get upset/mad at Verizon and storm out. Then next week when they can actually get it go pick it up and be happy with their phone (as if nothing ever happened).

Well, my first ever phone call from a Verizon rep, he put my name down to hold a nexus on Tuesday.

Anyway he actually called me out of the blue to give an update. Nothing new, said he has them in stock but can't show it or sell it, just waiting for the green light.

I still hate Verizon but that simple phone call made me feel like somebody there cares, even though it was bad news....it was news nonetheless.

Here's the reason I believe there is no official launch date -- Verizon doesn't want to get further bad press if they can't meet it. They're tired of the leaks, rumors, and speculation. We know stores have the phone, we know reps know about the phone, we know we want the phone. It will be released soon, Verizon just doesn't want to say when, one day it will just be available.

I actually think it's more about economics. Since they failed to get it out on or before black Friday or cyber Monday, they are looking at the busiest shopping week prior to Christmas excluding BF.

Which I bet is next week.

If we don't see it tomorrow, I am still holding out hope, we will see it next week because to capitalize on sales, next week is the target. The following week is no good because of Xmas and the week after will be drowned out by end of year deals everywhere. Just my opinion. :)

I talked to a sales guy from a local Radio Shack store on the phone and he says they are expecting a shipment of product today and it may have the Galaxy Nexus in it. He asked that I call back tonight around 5pm to see if it came in.

I asked if it comes in, if I could come in tomorrow to buy it from him and he said as long as it comes in and they aren't told they can't sell it, I can buy it. We'll see what happens! But yeah it looks like Radio Shack is willing to sell it as long as they aren't mandated by upper management not to.

It'll be funny if Verizon won't sell the phone tomorrow and everyone ends up buying it at Radio Shack. The only thing I've ever bought at Radio Shack are batteries you can't find anywhere else..

Don't hesitate to buy from Radioshack. I bought my EVO (back when that phone was the only 4G device) and it was a very good experience. I reserved the phone, they called me when it came in and the activation process was seemless. I'd buy from them again.

Of course I have no idea. But I assume there was some contract to begin and end on certain dates. Verizon doesn't have the best reputation for timely releases anyway, and I'm sure Google and Samsung want to have the opportunity to sell through the other carriers in the U.S. If they didn't insist on a specific window of exclusivity, then they're bigger idiots than Verizon.

Yeah, I'm sure the exclusivity arrangement spells it all out. There's probably a deadline for Verizon to release the phone (or lose the exclusivity), and then some period of exclusivity that follows that.

Since Verizon's only public commitment was to release the phone by the end of the year, I don't think the exclusivity arrangement is in any danger. At least not until December 31 has passed.

I should have expressed myself more clearly, the imminent launch is DOA. The phone's arrival tomorrow or over the next several days is DOA.

I guess you are using the fact that there is no way Verizon will launch on Saturday or Sunday to qualify the statement that the next several days is DOA. That is 99% likely true. But Monday is by no means eliminated, and if I had to give a percentage to every day for the next 3 weeks, Monday would have the highest IMO.

Here is MY problem...........

Irregardless of the MANY delays that have taken place and are taking place........WHY would they LIE ?

I called my local VZW cooperate store this morning and an agent said she knew nothing about a phone called Galaxy Nexus! I told her she was probably the only person on the planet that knew nothing. She said she was sorry and told me to hold while she talked to her manager. She came back on the phone and said her manager did not know of such a device.

I was in this store on Tuesday talking to a rep about this phone! I asked to talk to the manager, was put on hold. The manager came on and told me no one in the store knows anything about such a phone! I asked her if they knew nothing about release dates and the manager told me no, they just simply did not know anything about any device called the Samsung "Galaxy Nexus" !!!

WHY do they have to be this way..................... why can't they just tell me the simple truth and say they are not allowed to talk about it? Why a manager thinks it is OK to LIE about this is beyond me.

I will indeed get the Nexus when it is released (if ever) but will NEVER again do business with that store.

Am i calling that store out for being liars? Sure am....................very sad indeed!

On a positive note, 2 minutes after being lied to, i called an authorized dealer in my area. He was 100% knowledgeable about the phone and he took my number and told me he would call me as soon as they were allowed to sell the phone........LOL..........

It is so amazing how VZW and it's sales force can screw up this release!!

End of my issues and rant...........
