Ok, I just got off the phone with VZW (in San Jose, CA) and here's pretty much how the conversation went:
Me: "Hi, I was just curious if you're going to have the Galaxy Nexus available tomorrow"
VZW: "Let me see here...um...let me check the computer.......sir? you still there? ...oh ok it says here that it's been pushed back to Saturday now"
Me: "SATURDAY? THIS SATURDAY?"
VZW: "Yeah"
Me: "Great! Do you have any idea how many you have in stock? I want to make sure I get one before they run out"
VZW: "Um...actually I'm not allowed to say anything about how many we have, but I can say we probably have enough for about half of the day"
Me: "Awesome...and you guys open at 10?"
VZW: "Yeah"
Me: "I'll be there!"
A few thoughts:
1. VZW reps aren't always right. So take this with a grain of salt
1b. even if he is right, that doesn't mean they couldn't push it back further
2. Now I have some leverage when I call other stores because I can say "the guy at the West Gate store said they'll have it out on Sat...I was just wondering if you guys will have it out on the same day"
2b. YOU GUYS should start calling your local stores too and say the same thing so that we can solidify this date a bit more by multiple reports.
3. How is it that I have yet to talk to a VZW employee that's half as stoked as I am about this phone to the point that they have to say "hmm...let me check the computer" or "is that a phone or a tablet" or "Is that the one with honeycomb"? Maybe they're playing stupid and the jokes on me...but dang...they don't seem to be very excited. If I worked there, I'd be in the back opening up all the boxes and beaming things from one to the next and forget to come out front to work
(I know, I know, I would get fired...but it would be so worth it...and I would run out the door with like 12 under each arm).
