***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Stopped by the VZW corporate store in Plainfield, IN tonight and got to play with one :)

Guy I spoke with didn't know much about it, but knew people were looking for it. He said they had 20+ in stock, just waiting for Verizon to turn it loose. He said he didn't have a date, but showed me the email he got indicating that the release had been postponed.

He also tried to sell me on a Xyboard... I told him if I could buy the Nexus tonight that he had a deal... no go :) Aah well, it was worth a shot! Said he would hold one for me and contact me as soon as it was able to be sold.

The phone was quite amazing. Big, but totally manageable in a way that the Razr could never hope to accomplish. The screen was HUGE and absolutely gorgeous.

In fact, I would say that it didn't really seem all that big... quite the opposite, if this makes sense, but just made my DInc seem really small.

ICS was fast and smooth, much better than the alpha version I am running on my Nook Color (which is actually pretty good BTW). New GApps/widgets looked great.

At any rate, got a shot of me with it. Forgive the framing, my 15 year old son-in-law was taking the pic with my DInc and he was focused on the phone, not the top of my head or my left eye which were chopped off haha!

It's here, it's real, and it will be in our hands before we know it. Hang tight people! You won't regret it.

At this point in the game, who has changed their opinion from yes there will be a pre-order phase to no? And who who believes they will announce it more than 24hrs prior to it being sold?

I for one will say I've changed my mind. I thought there was no way in hell they'd just throw them on the shelves and let them sell. Now I think its likely we'll see an announcement sometime late in the afternoon the day before they go on sale. That or they announce it first thing in the morning the day its released.

A local Radio Shack received one Nexus. They tried to sale it to me but they couldn't ring it up. I didn't try to leave my payment information though. I doubt that would have worked anyways.

What is it with these Shacks receiving only ONE unit? Does that really happen with other phones?

Makes me wonder if the next issue is limited supply.

I'm not sure why you guys keep trying to get the thing when the same scenario keeps repeating itself time after time. The guy either gets to the register and the phone can't be rung up or the sales guy makes a call and finds out he's not allowed to sell it.

What makes anyone else think that somehow this will be different when they try? The one guy we know that was successful got a call minutes later pleading to bring it back. He did.

I guess I find it amazing how many seem to want to set themselves up for disappointment. Each to his own I guess.

I find it extremely bizarre how none of my local stores say they have the Nexus. Like I said earlier, I was going to stop by some stores tonight but I still haven't gotten the chance to do that (maybe tomorrow?), but even then, none of the 3rd party stores have it. Am I in a Nexus-deprived location?! :(

Apparently they are not to mention it whether they have it or not, the answer is always the same for now... I found this out through my local Verizon manager who said he is not allowed to say either way. He was quite persistent as he said it is the policy of Verizon to keep the secrecy. I don't know why Verizon is reinforcing this idea when I think everyone had a glimpse of it at this point :( Guess they really want to 'Rule the Air' Noone is to know before they say anything I guess... Really wish there was a new phone service provider whose service is on par with efficiency yet for less the costs I see verizon as blood thirsty vampire bats their logo is red and black bats with blood stains from our pockets :/

unfortunately i'm starting to see this as a possibility...VZW scrapping the deal on the Gnex that is...however they did EVENTUALLY start carrying the iPhone...my optimism tells me there is a contract involved and they will sell the phone they are just working out some BS that the contract didn't necessarily cover but is being forced nonetheless...only time will tell:thinking:

There is no possible way they are going to nix it altogether. Google and Samsung made this device and shipped it to thousands of stores already, there is no way they made millions of LTE units specifically for Verizon, all to be scrapped. The phone is coming, who knows when, but it is coming...

They didn't have thousands of og nexuses and iPhones in stores back then

True, but they are only out shipping cost on that. They wouldn't be eating any of the manufacturing costs. I think it will come down to Google having to settle or a lawsuit, the latter of which doesn't bode well for us getting the phone in the next 7 days.

Dear Verizon,
I love it when my OG Moto Droid that I paid 300 dollars for (thinking I was going to get a 100 dollar upgrade credit but now I don't) freezes, crashes, and turns off on its own. I wish you could see the joy come over my face each time I take the battery out. I especially loved it when I was eligible for an upgrade in September and you dragged your feet with the Bionic release. Then I was excited to learn that the Samsung Galaxy S2 was being rel.. no wait.. oops, you passed on that. That the Galaxy Nexus was going to be released before the end of the year. I love waiting and watching you try to release a phone. It just sits on the shelf and dates itself... Its pure buisness magic! My favorite part is being locked into my unlimited data plan. I really wish I could leave you, But damn this phone is sweet unlocked ice cream sandwich google goodness! This phone is like the last "hookup" in our relationship before we break up. You know its going to happen. Just go with it.. One last thrill!! What do you say??

Circle yes or no.

Sincerly yours based on the unlimited data package, Jay

There is still that one anon user who has yet to have received the callback or just didn't mention it. People set them up for that small hope of actually bypassing through the system with a loophole. People have mentioned that the phone itself can be activated. Say a salesperson did not know he/she had to go through supervision beforehand one can strike luck and proceed through if there are no problems with the system. Small hope is everything there is. People would rather try then do nothing and get nowhere.

Because you might be lucky like the 2 who have gotten manual purchases and are playing with their brand new toy right now.

This is not necessarily true. Verizon can't scrap the phone altogether, but they can sure as heck refuse to sell it out of their stores and honor 2 year upgrade prices on it. Basically, (this is just a hunch, I wouldn't know for sure without viewing the contract) at this point I think they are locked into allowing the phones onto their network, but they aren't obligated in any way to support, sell, or honor the phones outside of that.

I could see this becoming a huge fiasco where you basically have the equivalent of a stock of unlocked LTE Nexus-es. They would only be available at 3rd party stores, ie. BB, Costco, Radioshack...etc, and only at full retail.

Oh great! Verizon has waited so long to release this phone and my husband is so sick of hearing about it that he's now changed his mind about letting me get it! All of a sudden he's wanting to know why I need a $300 phone? Grrr! You would think a computer geek would be a little more understanding!!

Just let him know that's fine and that you had your eye on a quad core phone coming out next year, anyway. Then you destroy him by saying that there's a new quad core thread you're following on AF, with a mission to leave this thread in the dust. I think that would be so scary that my husband would probably insist that I get the GNex asap!

Or just wait for the actual release, not worry about what might or might not happen and be done with it. I guess it's just me.

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover and my Nexus was missing again. This happens all the time; it's detachable. This comes in handy a lot of the time; I can leave it home when it think it's gonna get me in trouble, or I can rent it out when I don't need it. But now and then I go to a party, get drunk, and the next morning, I can't, for the life of me, remember what I did with it. First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it , so I called up the place where the party was, they hadn't seen it either. I asked them to check the medicine cabinet, 'cause for some reason, I leave it there sometimes, but not this time. So I told them if it pops up to let me know. I called a few people who were at the party, but they were no help either.

I was starting to get desperate I really don't like being without my Nexus for too long, It makes me feel like less of a man, and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak.

After a few hours of searching the house, and calling everyone I could think of, I was starting to get very depressed, so I went to the Kiev and ate breakfast. Then as I walked down Second Avenue, toward St. Mark's Place, where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street, I saw my Nexus lying on a blanket next to a broken toaster oven-some guy was selling it! I had to buy it off him. He wanted 22 bucks, but I talked him down to 17. I took it home, washed it off, and put it back on. I was happy again: complete. People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached, but I don't know. Even though sometimes it's a pain in the butt, I like having a detachable Nexus.

Ha - were you listening to XM Lithium tonight? I was and heard that song the first time in like ever.

I don't think there is a limited supply. I think VZ doesn't think the phone will sell in high numbers. Sure there are about 2000 of here that want it but it is not a Moto "Droid", and that's what they want to sell.
