***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

For those who are inquiring about updates from Google vs. Verizon...

Google will produce and send the updates. Verizon will play a role in testing to make sure the update meshes well with their network. But that is it. You are talking a few days to a week or so worth of a wait.

To give you an idea, the 4G LTE version of the Xoom tablet (A Google Experience device) got the 3.2 Honeycomb update 2 weeks after the WIFI version. So, putting it in perspective of any other device, it is pretty quick.

New poster to the forum, and have been lurking for weeks.

Had a visit to VZW company store in FtMyers, FL this evening an had a VERY positive and helpfull experience with an associate. He was happy to "demo" the Gnex and offered that they have more than 30 waiting for sale once release date has been announced. He explained that while the battery life would not be "exceptional", that an "extended life battery" would be availabe for an additional charge. Also, his location would be offering free Gnex classes on saturdays after release to help customers become familiar with all the features. I expect this may be an effort to promote Google+, but who cares. Finally, regarding release date, he was non-commital, but offered that advertising would be "Heavy" shortly prior to release. (anybody have a hook with whomever creates advertizing for VZW?) I left after 30 uninterupted minutes whil trying not to drool on my size 13s.

Howdy Neighbor...

hey, i'm not his doctor. as long as we're not packed, our general rule of thumb is that we will find a way to charge you for any way you want to combine the ingredients in our kitchen. i would have pressed that "extra patty" button as many times as he said to. :p

I wish more places would do that. On a low carb diet, I try to stick with things on the menu that will work for me, because some places simply aren't willing to sell me what I want.

Been following the thread forever, and I really thought I was going to have a phone in hand on Friday... and was sad when I didn't (like the rest of you).

We are currently on AT&T with unlimited data and plan to switch to Verizon for the Nexus. However, I'm not feeling so much Verizon love lately... if I wanted to stay with AT&T and import a phone, how would that work? Is anyone else doing that? Just curious about my options.

:)

I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon as well, but not just for the phone.

It's going to be a breath of fresh air getting away from AT&T

The customer service is absolutely terrible

The call quality is really iffy

The download speeds are horrible in most areas (If you don't have LTE)

People hate on Verizon, but they're still 100x better than AT&T

Edit: I was going to stick with AT&T and import the Galaxy Note, but then you have to worry about something going wrong with the phone. I'd rather not have to deal with that.

Precisely. This is in comparison to months of waiting on updates for phones from manufacturers with UI skins.

I was there earlier today too. The manager told me the 15th and that he had plenty of stock. I've always had good experiences there. Though I'm still tempted to do COSTCO to get the extras and the 90 day return.

Have you fished around the Bestbuys at all?
Have only checked the VZW outlets. The rep at the store this evening took my number and promised to call me when release date is announced to arrange an appointment so that I'll get one of the ones already in stock.

I plan on waiting for the Costco bundle too, but I am only waiting if it includes a dock. If it is only a car charger, case and the like, I will just buy it at a corporate store if they have it first.

More dribble from the earp:

Well, I do not intend this post to be 'baiting' nor 'attacking' nor anything else that (I hope) the mods need to 'infraction' me for.

But I keep seeing the word delayed in so many posts here I feel I must say something about that word. Delayed implies that VZW made an official announcement and then had to back away from it. The speculation that a 'delay' has to do with the google wallet, the recent LTE outage, aliens landing, John
Wilkes Booth coming back to life, nor my defense of P3Droid and Lee Harvey Oswald is IMHO null and void.

I, and others, have posted some fairly solid info that the Samsung i515 phone will release the week of 12/12, with _possible_ pre-orders the week of 12/5. Well the _possible_ pre-order date range was given as just that. Possible. It didn't happen. We still have a few days to go to see the release date of the week of 12/12 to come and go; but we have yet to see an actual official release date announced by VZW. So that said, there is IMHO, no such thing as a delay as of yet, no matter what the speculation is, as such speculation is based on rumor and not an official announcement by VZW.

Now that I've said all that, who's looking forward to a Motoroogle developer device that will really rival the Moto A855 in openess?

Oh and to finish, I did go to a local Authorized retailer in Chehalis, WA (go wireless) last Tuesday (12/6). I charged into the store and when they asked "Can we help you?" I just said, "I'm looking to see if you have a Galaxy Nexus accidently on display". They replied, "No". I asked if they had anyone else ask about it. They replied, "No, you're the first one". So I turned around and asked if they could say anything else about it, and of course they said "No". So I said, "Well probably next week then". And they said "Yup". Now this last paragraph was just my dealings with CSR's in a VZW retailer. IMHO none of it can be taken to the bank as in my experience VZW employee's have no clue and/or are under such strict NDA agreeements that ANY thing they say is just that. Talk. All I can say is that they didn't deny knowledge of it.

Now the earp is done dribbling.

This was taken outside a Verizon store on Friday.

THE PHONE WAS DELAYED. IT WAS INTERNALLY EXPECTED TO GO ON SALE DECEMBER 9. Plain and simple

Thanks! I will follow in the new thread. The moral for all us waiting Nexicans, be careful what you do reading this forum and waiting for our new toys. Of course, it has given me something else to focus on now besides the nexus delay, lol.

Ya? Our company iP4s are on AT&T and have been solid as a rock. When I compare my AT&T 4s side by side to the wife's VZW 4s there is no difference that's couldn't be attributed to human error (split seconds to load the same web page)

I guess it depends on the area you're in

Best way to learn is to break it and scramble for a fix. :D
GL, the DX is pretty resilient and the tools are out there to fix ANYTHING.

Northern New Jersey here, I get 1 bar inside my house (right next to the window) and 2 bars outside. With a max down speed of 2.5Mb

What good is Unlimited doing for me if I can't even take advantage of it? :p

^This.

I really like the speed increase my dual core gave but I _love_ the big jump in battery lifetime that came along with it.

I would also like to see the transreflective displays advance to phones -

Pixel Qi - *See our Blog for latest about Pixel Qi*

I've never seen these displays in person. Are they having trouble propagating partially because quality in backlit modes is subpar? I would guess they are decent in that mode as I use a $400 elcheapo laptop and am fine with the display, but tend to expect more on a smartphone personally and don't use any device outdoors in sunlight often. I do think there should be such options though for those that need it.

One the same principle, could you in good conscious buy it from verizon? Or most other goods from any other seller for that matter knowing they overcharge also?
What's you definition of overcharge? Mine is quite simple, charging more than the MSRP of an item. If any company tries to sell an time for more the MSRP, that's called price gouging and it's illegal under most circumstances. Doesn't apply to person to person sales, but does for companies who resell items.

So back to your original question. Is Verizon overcharging? Actually, for subsidized purchases, they are under charging for the hardware, so they can make it up with contracted service.

I have a hard time swallowing the "big evil companies overcharge us" line.

If a Verizon store opened up, and said, we only have a few Galaxy Nexus phones, so who wants to pay the most, then I'd be just as critical of them. But you don't see them doing that.

I also understand that the cost of an item isn't the sole cost of it's components that iSupply reports. There's labor to put it together, purchasers to arrange all the components, engineers to design, quality to test, and a legion of finance and exective positions that keeps the company together. So I don't think most things are "over charged".
