Root Big Difference in Data Speeds

I don't believe the PRL has a whole lot to do with it. My co-worker who talked me into switching to VM has an Optimus V. After work we sat them side by side. Both have PRL 61007. I was getting a -108 dBM signal and his was -96 dBm. Simultaneous Speedtest ran and he got 1400 kbs down and 480 kbs up. My triumph got 57 kbs down and 55 kbs up. That sucks pretty hard. Listening to low quality Pandora is pretty much hit or miss. VM/Sprint/Moto need to get the 3g on this phone fixed or admit there is a problem.

alright so I was able to go threw the whole tutorial. but for some reason my PRL isn't changing. on the software on the computer it picks up my phone on the right port, and Im able to read and then write your PRL to the phone. After my phone reboots and I go to check my PRL it says 61007 even after I wrote the 01115.PRL to the phone

how come its not saving??? :(

did you go back to stock? if your on cm7 or miui it will appear that it worked but when you go check it didn't do anything i'd recommend flashing brandon's bone stock rom then try it again

yea I had gone back to stock just to get my MSL by dialing some #'s
but I came back to CM7 after I got my MSL code and did the QPST method from there.

So your saying I have to do the QPST method and write the PRL while
being on Stock THEN switch back to CM7?????

yeah cm7 won't let you write a prl to the phone it has to be done on stock

so i went back to stock and....it worked :D
flashed back to CM7 and it was still on the 01115 this time.
Im able to watch youtube videos without it buffering and
also when I tether the im getting pretty good connection to the pc.
Can now surf on sites alittle faster

Thanks.

Got a few question though. is anyone getting 4Full bars with this?
im only at 3 bars.

and also how often must we update the PLR???

Got another question. is there a way to know which PRL to use with lets say the closest tower to me? I ask because when I run the speed test for some reason it says my closest server is in Kansas. I am in New York, Manhattan to be exact.
When I check the network towers on the sprint website it shows Im surrounded by like 3 or 4 towers.
So why on the speed test from the phone it says nearest server is in Kansas???

this has me confused about how PRL works o_o. So the prl in this thread that the OP mentioned. Does it connect our phones to our close towers, or the one close to the OP??

So do we have conclusive date showing switching the PRL will increase data speeds? Or is it a hit or miss between location of the user and the PRL used? I browsed over most of this and didn't see anyone able to give any real evidence there is a speed increase except for opinions... I would definite swap my PRL if I knew for sure it was going to help.

The PRL will do little or nothing without roaming, which in theory you cannot do. If you DO find a place where you can roam (and some people have!) the little triangle will show up.

One warning is that in some areas using an alternative PRL will wind up tossing you onto a 1xRTT tower instead of a 3g one, which is DEFINITELY not what you want for data performance!

whats the fastest PRL? Can i find a list by location? or latest updated? and when trying to get my MSL from that link there's nothing displayed but an error saying the page dosnt exist. any help on trying to receive this? thanks for your help, this is my first post.. Only reason why is because i am having a issues, i usually don't need help i find out on my own and understand, but everyone needs help in a while.

There's no set revision number for PRLs, try Searching in Sprint forums for the latest. I believe 01115 is a reliable one that people have tried (including me on my old OV).

Yea, after researching it for a little bit i found out its just a list of updated towers. i am using muiu, and i read i would have to restore back to stock to retrieve my MSL. i downloaded the latest PRL (60683) and i have (01115) does it matter which one i add? i downloaded and installed all the programs needed. any other advice you can give me? Thanks.

Technically it's updated frequencies to scan, and Sprint/VM has been using the same frequencies for years (so new towers will automatically show up in your area even with default PRL). If you can flash one, just try both, install speedtest in stock ROM so you can do a bunch of tests with each before switching back to MIUI with the one you decide to keep.

Ugh, can't get it to update. I have CM7 installed so the boot sequence is a bit different than normal so the visual clue is off, but still. So annoying, I've done it at least ten times now and I still can't seem to catch it correctly apparently.

*sigh*

Tellerve

You can't change the PRL while on CM7, you have to flash to a stock ROM.

You would have thought that Moto would have released the source code for our phone by now...
Sadly, this phone should have never been built with Froyo on it, it should have had Gingerbread since day one, then again, Moto should have done some QC testing on this phone but I digress.

;)
