***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

That is exactly what the sales guy I talked to at Verizon said yesterday. I was saying how the updates for the Nexus will be way ahead of the other phones and he said Verizon would never allow updates to any phones directly. It all had to go through Verizon.
When Apple released iOS 5 update, it was available for Verizon iPhone 4 since day 1. I updated my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to iOS 5 the same day. So it proves that his statement is wrong.

I sure hope that Google can do the same for the Nexus. You can bash Apple all you want but you wouldn't see Any Verizon app pre-loaded on an iPhone. It seems Google has a lot less negotiation power than Apple.

By the way, I am buying the Nexus because it's suppose to be the best LTE phone on Verizon. If the next iPhone has LTE support and a bigger screen, I would serious consider jumping ship.

I'd take either or both in a heartbeat. Although I'd melt for a rottie or pitbull too.

Dogo Argentino FTW!

Here is another person saying this isn't easy to use. Are you all sure this is a good choice for a non-tech user? Will this be similar to navigating my DX or will it be much more difficult to use? Would the Rezound be more user friendly? I want the latest and greatest phone, but some of what you talk about on here is over my head.

Oh, honey,....if this old bird can learn it, anyone can! The folks here are so helpful and never make you feel like an idiot. But the most important thing to remember is(that I learned on the Incredible forum two yrs ago)....."iPhones are for geeks. Androids are for bad asses.....ya gotta ask yourself, who are YOU?"

Very valid points, but what good would ICS's built in data tracking be if you can't sync it with your billing cycle?
It wouldn't be very good, that's for sure. I would hope there would be a way to sync them, but again that's maybe why My Verizon is there.

And even if you can sync ICS to your billing cycle, it still lacks a lot of information that My Verizon provides.

I can almost guarantee updates will come from VZW and not Google because of one simple thing. The phone has Verizon apps and Google does not own these apps therefore they can't make updates for the phone without going through Verizon first. Even though OTA updates will come from Verizon instead, I am almost certain they will come out faster than any other skinned phone. Because there will be less bugs to work out due to no sense or motoblur being present on the phone. Samsung phones will most likely be the last of Verizon phones to have perm S off and unlocked bootloader status. I don't see HTC or Motorola unencrypting their bootloaders ever again. Verizon and these phone manufacturers want us to buy new phones, not update our current ones with new ROMS.
On that note, I can see the LTE Galaxy Nexus having just as much if not more dev support as the Thunderbolt. I am sure CM9 will release quickly along with other ICS roms. This is why I am waiting for this phone, I refuse to use manufacturer overlays, they are ALL garbage. They waste battery life and hinder updates.

gonna go try best buy mobile in a local mall in the next hour or so... will report back after

looks like many in other forums have tried best buy today because they had been quoting Dec 11th. i haven't seem much (or any!) success. same deal as many people were seeing here ... paperwork OK, activation OK, ring up at the register FAIL.

let us know if you're successful, though. good luck!

Just visited my friend in NJ recently. His 2 year old has no problem using daddy's Droid X... grabs it, unlocks it, navigates to Angry Birds and Talking Tomcat, and has even called me with it!

I just don't buy the whole thing of Android not being easy and intuitive. If a 2 year old can figure it out... well, that should say something about the adults being stumped.

The lack of intuition comes in what different apps do. For instance, some apps have an "Exit" function from the menu button, some you have to view more the find and Exit option.

Some apps have no Exit function what so ever.

Some apps need to you hit Back twice to exit.

Some apps don't exit and the only way to kill them if they are acting up is to navigate to settings (which you can only access from the Homescreen [fixed in ICS]) Then find the running applications so you can force close it.

Heck some apps don't show the predictive text bar in landscape mode (google plus is one).

This is why sometimes it is a guessing game with android. Dont get me wrong though I'm stuck so Im not going anywhere.

Also accessing one app isnt a suitable comparison to using every function the phone has to offer.

If I had unlimited on AT&T, there is no way that I would leave for Verizon. I've thought about importing a phone myself and I'm pretty well sold that GSM is the future. That being said, so are cloud-based ecosystems and that's why I'm so hesitant to give up the unlimited data that I have with VZW. Take that away right now and I'm gone. To be honest, A large part of me would rather have the GSM Galaxy Nexus anyway but I feel kind of stuck with VZW right now (unlimited data).

I really do hate Verizon Wireless as a company. In the past week alone, they have...

Set appointments to buy the phone and then not bothered to call to advise me of the status change. On top of that, they didn't even apologize or offer to take my number to let me know if/when they could reschedule when I showed up for my appointment - very unprofessional.

They have strong-armed their distribution channels, forcing them to sit on inventory and forcing them to place abusive and unrealistic mandates on their own employees who have little to no knowledge of the policies in the first place. I really do feel sorry for these people who work on commission. Verizon has really forced all of their resellers to fall on the sword.

They have LIED to shareholders in regards to their position on Google wallet.

They have thrown their own partners, Google and Samsung, under the bus at every turn.

They have abused their unique access to spectrum to try and stop Google from entering the mobile payment space.

And, while we wait for some hint of a decent PR release, they exploit our attention and attempt to energize us to buy all of their junk merchandise.

They have the worst PR and marketing representatives that I have ever seen. But, they own infrastructure and spectrum, which essentially makes them the only game in town, especially for rural folks.

I applaud Verizon for making and effort to stake their claim in apps, mobile payment, etc. But, I do believe that they will loose the war in these spaces thanks to their horrific communication strategies and overreaching tactics

Verizon really does treat their customers like dogs. If you could have access to their pipes without their people, I say go for it. Otherwise, I would suggest importing and holding on to your unlimited data with AT&T.

Agree 100%

I for one, because of VZW and the way they create an environment that makes their employees blatantly LIE to potential customers about the Nexus status, will NEVER get this or any other phone from VZW.

It will not matter to them at all but will to me! As soon as my contract is up i will pay the price for the equipment i want on the network at that time. NO contracts!

2 year contract buying a phone that is outdated in 4 to six months? And folks.............the Nexus has lost at least 1 to 2 months of that unique time frame. No way will i purchase this "soon to be outdated" phone.

A couple of months from now, ICS will be widely released and in use and the Nexus will be unfortunately an outdated piece of equipment.

Darn it...................I HATE all of this but HATE VZW the most !!

No question in my mind that the Galaxy Nexus will have the most dev support of any newly released phone, and the LTE model will be the favorite. Take a look at all the devs on XDA, TBH, Cyanogen, etc who are already lined up.

That's the point that a lot of people who are thinking going to the Rezound or Razr miss. Not a knock on those phones at all, as they are both quality hardware. But software and support are where the strengths of the GNex lie, and that's what you are buying into.

Yeah, but if we go down that route, a lot of apps are just wrappers that present the same info you'd get going to the website. Why does a Phandroid app exist when you could just as easily go to the website?

The app makes it easier, so you don't have to log in and scroll through pages that aren't optimized for touch. ;)

All Android updates come from Google. For phones with manufacturer UI skins, the updates pass to those companies and are adapted, then move to the carrier for testing and compatibility. For the Nexus, which runs vanilla Android, the update only has to go through the carrier.

But the app is not a necessity....

ICS has data usage built into the OS....

The discrepancy was can you sync it to your billing cycle, which led to all the other information that can be attained from the app. To which you replied use the website.

Well the ease of having the app (especially without knowing if you can sync it to a certain set of dates) makes it useful to people that do have to constantly monitor their account usage.. Dont like the app disable it or better yet Root and remove it.

That's your interpretation. The fact is most employees don't have any information, so they can't be lying about things they don't know.

It will not matter to them at all but will to me! As soon as my contract is up i will pay the price for the equipment i want on the network at that time. NO contracts!
Absolutely your choice. But you'll pay a lot more for that freedom.

Nexus is about dev support and software, not hardware. If that's not for you (and it's not for everyone) then that's fine.
