***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I remember watching for signs like this when the Incredible launched. I am pretty confident when Verizon's site showed these type of new page indicators it was only a few days and the Incredible had launched.

I've got a good feeling about this week (mostly because it's the last week I'm willing to wait and it would make sense it took till the final week) so I'd agree with assessment. Like I said, it suddenly started redirecting last Thursday night and then was changed back to the sign up page on Friday afternoon. The only difference was that the page not built at all and this time it is at least built and formatted so it would seem that we have progressed.

It's not so black and white. Google tells the hardware companies what they want for the next Nexus, and the hardware companies come back to Google with proposals they've developed. So it's a Samsung design, but heavily influenced by Google. The websites that have misnamed this the Galaxy Nexus S II (Amazon's product page still refers to it as that) aren't entirely incorrect, since the Nexus clearly builds upon the SII's success, yet there are enough obvious differences to make this NOT the same device.

...then there was the rumor that Samsung went "out of their way" to avoid known patent disputes in the Nexus, though they later denied it...

As for the actual name on the phone, does everyone else agree that it seems Google is loosening up on the phone's identity and allowing the manufacturer to have more recognition? Even carrier recognition, seeing as how Verizon got their logo on it. That Samsung's "Galaxy" brand made its way into the phone's name seems like unnecessarily redundant overkill. :D

so i guess the question is...is it the 'Google Galaxy Nexus' or the 'Samsung Galaxy Nexus' ??? (of course we all know it's produced by Samsung)

It's true that Verizon doesn't really owe us any statements, and I'm not suggesting that they apologize or anything. Just that Verizon made two promises. The first was a direct promise that the Gnex would come out this year, and I'm sure they'll keep it, but they're not exactly going to "over deliver" on the timeline by dragging out to the very end of December. But I have no problem with this, and I don't think that was the point of the letter. The second promise was implied, when Verizon setup a sign-up page for information, that they would indeed be providing some info. On this promise, they not only have ignored it, but have taken active measures to be as secretive as possible. But even on this point, I'll grant it that they're likely making a business call, weighing the options, and I don't fault them for it. But it's also understandable that people are frustrated in this situation, and I think it's well justified.

If I promise one of my staff a raise during 2012, and then tell him to give me his cell number so I can update him, and then tell him nothing all year, well, I'm sure he'd be frustrated. Then, if I call him on December 31st to tell him I'm giving him a 3 percent increase starting that day, I've met my obligations but I shouldn't be surprised if he's looking for another job in 2013... So I've turned all the positives of a pay increase, and made it into a sore point, even though I've met my word... I might not have broken my word, but it's not good management. If I had other reasons that forced my hand, then oh we'll, I made a business decision. But I'm not going to fault my employee for feeling frustrated. I've just made the decision that this guys frustration is still better than me suffering other losses.

Likewise, I agree with you that Verizon owes no apologies, and they haven't broken their word. But this forum is a testament to the fact that Verizon took a potentially very positive exclusive, and created some frustrated customers. And just like we cant blame Verizon, we can't fault people for feeling frustrated. But only by voicing these frustrations will Verizon reconsider this tactic in the future... I think that was the point of the letter that that guy wrote.

I hear ya that it's frustrating, and am very annoyed by Verizon's delays, but I sort of feel they're just in a really tough spot.

Just two points:

1. The sign up page does say they'll email updates, but I don't think that means they'll email constant updates. I understood it to mean they'll email to say when the phone is available, and it seems like they still don't know when that'll be, and I'd assume they will email people at some point when they know/the phone hits the market. Yeah, we'd rather hear more details about testing phases and shipment dates, but I don't think theyre expected to tell us that.

2. As for your employee example, you're right that the employee has the right to look for a different job. However, if come December 1 you still aren't sure about your finances, are you really going to call the employee and say "hey, I'm still not sure about your raise"? And if the employee approached you on December 12 to ask why he hasn't heard about his raise yet, I would think you'd say "it's not December 31 yet."

While we are dying to get our hands on this phone (or info about it), I don't really fault Verizon for their lack of communication. If they have a good reason for the delay, I wouldn't fault them for that either.

I remember when, after weeks of anticipation, the Incredible was delivered to my house waiting for me after work. It was awesome. I felt the same way as I do now waiting for the Nexus as I did for the Incredible. When there's a Nexus waiting for me this time, it'll be just as awesome if not more so. I can't wait, and knowing that it's coming has kept me faithful waiting on the GN.

BTW it now redirects almost immediately to the sign up page. At least they're working on SOMETHING. Now really, goodnight!!

There's still a delay for me.
The source code says
PHP:
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://smartphones.verizonwireless.com/nexus/">

I don't know why they'd use a meta redirect, and not just a redirect header, but maybe it's a sign of things to come.

Maybe but I wouldn't think to much into it

...I don't think it's a coincidence that it looks like Google and Samsung standing shoulder to shoulder and staring at Apple and saying - Oh yeah? Get some. We're right here.

What I haven't seen many people mention is that perhaps this is an experiment to make a line of Nexii - perhaps soon we'll see the Sammy Nexus X, the Moto Nexus Y and the HTC Nexus Z.

Now, that would make for an interesting market, imo.

Hmmm... to be marketed concurrently, you're thinking?

Interesting, yes, but you know how Nexus is the "reference design" for what Google thinks can / should be done with their current version of Droid? Well there seem to be two very important aspects -- perhaps unintended -- that so far have been universally ignored:
(1) Nexus releases are limited to (essentially) one per year
(2) Software update support is fast, frequent, and long-lived
(not that either of these are any big revelation to anyone in this forum -- it's just that none of the manufacturers have seemed to pick up on this as an important part of the formula for success)

...so I'd hate to see anything that could potentially water down those two important attributes. Three Nexus handsets by three manufacturers could potentially remove Google's concentrated focus on the device that everyone values so much.

I'd hang onto my Blunderbolt until Sammy releases the i1818. I don't know anything about it other than seeing Black Man X say its the better of the 2 Sammy's on Twitter :p For what's its worth he said while the i1515 (Galaxy Nexus) is great, the 18 is the "star of the show"

I'll have another upgrade available late June and knowing Verizon's schedule I'm hoping it'll be right on pace. Then again, they probably won't even release it, lol

Hi I was wondering if he gave any details as to why the i1818 was the star of the show. Did he give any specs? Is it the same as the galaxy s 3?

Thanks:)

Nexus buyers: Have plan B ready in a few months. The Nexus seems to be having some issues with volume level. It might or might not be fixed with a software update. The camera seems average at best. But for now it will be fun to play with ICS and root, et al. You will probably want to get rid of it and pick up a new phone that will have a better camera, volume, processor, screen display etc. I was in this situation a few months ago and I added another line to my Verizon account and picked up my current phone. Yeah, I am paying $9.95 a month for 2 years, but I have the new phone I wanted.

In that case, I'll go with "Samsung Galaxy Nexus" because it's ultimately designed and built by Samsung, despite Google's influence in the process.

If it were more like the days where Intel put out a reference design motherboard for its chipsets that OEMs could either copy or modify, that would be a different story. But it's clear to me that Google knows HTC, Sammy & Moto are more qualified to take the lead on the design, in the same manner an architect might imagine a grand building in conceptual sketches, but leave the actual structural design details and construction to engineers and contractors.

Plan B is there's always going to be a better spec a short wait down the road. But will it receive the same long-term support down the road? That's my attraction to this phone: something I can live with for two years.

The camera is average *at worst*. Of the shots I've seen, many are quite good.

Paying an extra $240 for an unused line just to save a few bucks in the short term may or may not pan out for some people -- I'd have to see that on paper. What's a good guess at the price of a used GNex a year from now on Craigslist?

Morning Nexers!
Got a pretty busy week. Half day at work, company party tonight, day off tomorrow (!), Beruit concert on Wednesday (hells yeah!). And, hopefully a brand new Nexus in my hand!
I'm probably going to stop by the RS that said they had GNs in stock this afternoon and see if they have any more news.
Here's hoping for some announcement today!

There is ALWAYS a way to get another upgrade. Between my brother and I, we've had 8 devices in the past year and a half (since last July or so). Sure, sometimes it takes trying a few different things to make it happen, but there's no reason to EVER be stuck with a phone for two years. Ever. Not unless you're lazy, and/or satisfied with your current phone.

I can't wait to get my Nexus, but I guarantee I'll have something different by Easter. Just the way the game works! But if you like keeping your phone, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that either. My mom has had the same phone for a few years now and has no desire to replace it. Nothing wrong with that!

Meh... too much work for me. Once I get my hooks into it, I just need a phone that works (and that I like). This Blackberry I have now hasn't been insufferable, but the technology is obviously dated and a change is overdue. What I definitely don't need is to be on the bleeding edge of new tech. I don't have the time or interest to invest in that -- at least, not like I once did.

Well time to stop lurking... I have a nexus on order (gsm) and will get it some time around the end of the week.. hopefully I will be able to sell it right away :) or I will keep it for travel to europe. hmm it would be awesome if I could make nandroid backups and restore between the two... (I know different builds and radios will keep that from working ).

this has been a very fun thread to be a part of and even though we all get frustrated at vzw's total cluster foxtrot, it is nice to see that the mods are keeping in good spirits...

I know it is more appropriate for thanking specific posts but I would like to say thanks to all the mods who have been working hard in this super fast moving thread and keeping their cool. We have a lot of people getting frustrated at different times and giving them a lot of work...

Holy cow.. has it really been since 2009 since I last logged in... I need to update my info.. :)

Good Morning GNexers! Hopefully this is the final Monday morning this thread sees. Based on last weeks timeline, it seems they will make the decision two days in advance. So either we get a press release tomorrow, or the 15th will join the rest of the days gone by that are now cursed forever due to Verizon ;)

A rumor that I've heard elsewhere, but haven't heard in here is that there will be two GN's offered. One is 16GB for $199 and the other is the 32GB for $299 that we've all heard about. Anyone else hear this and how valid do you think it is? EarlyMon, any opinions/insider info?

That could have been due to Google changing a spec listed on their site a few weeks ago (but then changing it back), and also to the $199 Black Friday Flash ad that was floating around.

But all of VZW's leaked specs -- the ones in table form comparing the GNex to phones on other carriers -- listed ONLY 32GB. There's only one model number that's made an appearance. Of the stock that's showed up in stores that members have seen, everything's been 32GB.

None of this rules out the possibility that a 16GB LTE version can make an appearance in the future, but at this time, it's a unicorn.
