i understand this argument if people are waiting to get a better phone simply because it's "better". however, the argument doesn't stand up under all circumstances. for some, their personal needs/preferences may require certain hardware/software. if a phone coming out in 3 months better serves those needs/preferences, then why not wait?! but, if their phone isn't really working well now, and a phone that meets their needs/preferences isn't coming out for another 6-8 months, then maybe they might have to "settle"/"get by" with another device that is available now.
as long as you're not waiting simply because you want the next best thing, it all comes down to personal preferences and needs.
The sad thing is that very few people can distinguish between the two anymore. "Need" and "want" have become synonymous for most. What does anyone really "need" their smartphone to do? Make calls? Take decent pictures? Render internet pages reasonably well? Being honest, the rest of it is just style points. Some might have a UI that is preferable to another. Some might have a screen tha is preferable to another. Some might have a little nicer materials or might otherwise feel a little better in that person's hand, but it's all just preference. And vanity.
I wish I could find a link to an excerpt from "Hilarious" by Louis CK, he does a bit about cell phones and how they are wasted on the "worst generation of POS losers" because we have this marvelous gadget and all we do is pee and moan about how it should do more and better and faster and on and on. Really quite funny. And true.
