i understand this argument if people are waiting to get a better phone simply because it's "better". however, the argument doesn't stand up under all circumstances. for some, their personal needs/preferences may require certain hardware/software. if a phone coming out in 3 months better serves those needs/preferences, then why not wait?! but, if their phone isn't really working well now, and a phone that meets their needs/preferences isn't coming out for another 6-8 months, then maybe they might have to "settle"/"get by" with another device that is available now.

as long as you're not waiting simply because you want the next best thing, it all comes down to personal preferences and needs.

The sad thing is that very few people can distinguish between the two anymore. "Need" and "want" have become synonymous for most. What does anyone really "need" their smartphone to do? Make calls? Take decent pictures? Render internet pages reasonably well? Being honest, the rest of it is just style points. Some might have a UI that is preferable to another. Some might have a screen tha is preferable to another. Some might have a little nicer materials or might otherwise feel a little better in that person's hand, but it's all just preference. And vanity.

I wish I could find a link to an excerpt from "Hilarious" by Louis CK, he does a bit about cell phones and how they are wasted on the "worst generation of POS losers" because we have this marvelous gadget and all we do is pee and moan about how it should do more and better and faster and on and on. Really quite funny. And true.

I was running errands over my lunch break and decided to venture into a local VZW corporate store. As soon as I dropped the word Nexus, three employees looked around anxiously. Someone from across the room was called over to "help me with my Nexus questions." He was very friendly and said the 15th is supposed to be the day. I asked how sure he was about that, and he said, "I feel more confident about it than I did the 9th. From what I hear, the issue holding it up has been cleared up." I asked if he had one I could look at, and he went in back and got the dummy unit for me.

Let me just say that my excitement has massively waned from all the delays, but as soon as I held the device, I felt my nerd butterflies reach full tilt. The feel of the phone - the weight, the texture, the size - it is all perfect. I had concerns over the size, but not anymore. It physically is a perfect phone.

I asked if I could reserve one, and he said no. He went back into the back again and came out saying, "We have quite a few of them, but I would probably be here when we open on the 15th to be sure." He took my name and number and said he'd let me know if he heard anything.

I know we're all getting irked at the delays, but today just reaffirmed that I will, within reason, wait as long as I have to for this device. It looks and feels a cut above all the other options, and that's not even taking into account the fact that it will be packing vanilla ICS.

Soon, my friends. Soon.

Random thoughts:
Do "we" (and I mean "we" as all you cool people with your Sources and sisters and friends) know anyone in logistics with VZW? Just wondering if this is a supply strategy - build up the quantities available before you start selling?? Just curious why RS's have inventory of ONE or TWO, and some 3rd party folks do not have. Remember Samsung #Stopwaiting promotion. Do we think that they'd release a product that you not only have to wait in line for, but you'd also have to stalk a salesperson or try to convince someone to risk loosing their job just so you could SEE and TOUCH it? What happened to our FedEx and UPS stalker guy?

What about PR? I've heard very little discussion about a marketing push. Every corporate sales rep has told me that they expect a BIG marketing push for this. Do we know anything about that either? What about the virtual scavenger hunt and DROID DOES kind of stuff? I know its not a DROID branded product - but what about the Happy Apple-esque pre-annoucement music from Google/Samsung? Weird that noone has thought about the marketing aspect. Sure, its a "developer" type phone - meant for the uber geeks perhaps, but I'm just shocked that there's been little discussion about branding and PR with the launch.

Speaking of launch - is everyone saying the 15th just because its a Thursday? If it's expected to be available on Thursday, then pre-orders should start tonight or tomorrow night. VZW is offering some sort of BOGO offer on Samsung that ends today. Midnight is looking good then, right? Besides, others have launched on Mondays and Saturdays - Thursday may be the norm, but again, we have nothing official (yet).

Just a few random thoughts. Hope that we all have a chance to return to normalcy some day (whatever that may be).

Now, go look at some Christmas lights or buy someone a gift. There's a whole world out there!

Where did you hear this? All I've seen from testers is positive feedback regarding LTE/Voice reception. If you could provide a couple sources I'd love to read them.

build quality and call quality are a BIG concern for me (and a big reason why the RAZR is still in contention for me). where have you heard reports of those issues with the GNex?? i would sincerely like to read up so i can be better informed, and not make an "emotional" purchase come Thursday. Thanks!!

I think one of the guys who got it early has reported adequate reception, but less than the razr (speed, etc). It is worth noting that he mentioned he was running 4.0.1, which I believe had some LTE issues addressed in one of the newer updates. I think it is worth waiting and see what the reception is like once we get the newest OTA.

OT: WALKING DEAD
In the 2nd to last episode...<snip >
, they showed a young girl inside the barn, but from the camera angle, the sun glare prevented you from seeing any distinguishing features of her. From that point on, I was certain she was in the barn. And then after the mass shooting, I looked at my wife and said, "and then there was one" and she came out. Such a sad ending, but I'm glad they can FINALLY move on from this. February can't come fast enough.

Holy spoiler tags, Batman!

Been trying to refrain from OT football, but since the mods aren't complaining here goes.

Tebow is an awful QB but he's a winner and he's exciting. He will get better as we witnessed yesterday late in the 4th Q. As for his receivers, they dropped at least 4 other (besides end zone), very catchable balls that would have extended a drive or given them big gains. They need to work on that for next week's shootout. Tebow needs to read the receivers a little better too but that will come.

The Broncos were a lackluster team with Orton, everyone (fans/players) wanted to see Tebow given a shot and now they have it and now they are winning. It was an amazing comeback last night, the stadium was electric. Bears fans were hanging their heads.

Very good anaylsis IMO. I won't call him an "awful" QB but I see your point.

The rest is hidden because its OT

There is no doubt he is nowhere near the ability of Brady or Rodgers in consistency of throws, accuracy, or progression. However those are not the only 3 statistics that matter in a QB. He is better scrambler, better at extending plays (where Brady would either throw it away or be sacked) and he can read plays as they are happening.

I don't like comparing him to Brady or Rodgers, because at this point he has only won 7 games in the NFL and he needs to do a lot more to enter the comparisons with them. However if you qualify a QBs abilitys on merely accuracy then please look a little deeper.

To his receiver issues I say this:
When one of his receivers dropped that deep ball that would have been an easy TD, he came to Tebow after the play to apologize. Tebow simply told him "You are going to catch the next one". He didn't yell at him (ala Brady) or complain about his low numbers because of him, instead he credited his receivers for the great work they did. He is a leader and that is an intangible that overshadows any other "stat".

P.S. Most of this was directed at the other guys, I got a little off track. I agree with what you say, and he probably does look "awful" by "typical" NFL style QB standards.

true 1080p is typically 4 to 6 mb/s (though it can go as high as blu-ray which is approx 25mb/s). Cavet, the resolution has little to do with quality so you can have 1080p @ 200kb/s (though it won't look very good) and > 50mb/s (though taht would be over kill).

It has to be able to sustain 1080p transfer rates, so I figured it was at least decent.

Announced at CES in January 2011.

Rolled out in when, October?

Granted, that's enough time to make a Bionic III, but I don't plan on waiting for more vaporware.

A little OT, spoke with a contracting company friend that runs probably 500-1,000 phones nationwide, that was practically closed during the blackberry outage 2 months back.

They came in a week after razr rollout, and the boss said, turn in your berries, we've switched to Android.

Fiddle around too long, and sales are lost, probably forever.

Everybody remembers their first ass whuppin.

To those wondering about sources of what I posted, there is nothing online that I can point you to, sorry. My sources I am unable to divulge to you guys sorry.

Im not saying that the GN will be terrible. I mean Samsung makes millions of phones and there are a lot of happy people out there using them. But for me, call quality and reception is huge, so I wanted the best I could get and for that a few folks gave me the heads up to not overlook the Razr. I reviewed, checked it out, and purchased yesterday.

Not meaning to ruffle feathers or stir anything up, just posting what I did for me personally.

Any questions, shoot me a pm.

Cheers.

Congrats on your new Razr. Please post a review of it soon. I might get one if the SGN never shows it's face.

Enjoy!

I have to say I think the best way to know if the release is imminent sans press release or anything concrete is when the GN's that are in the wild now has OTA's pushed to them. Agreed?
