***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Just picked up my Asus Transformer tablet (not the Prime) from Best Buy. That will give me something to play around with this week in between studying for finals.

I'm starting to think the 15th is the cut off day for me. The Nexus is nice but it doesn't blow me away. The video and pic quality look pretty bad and after suffering through the crap quality of that on my DX I don't know if I want to do that again. Might just get a Rezound.

I still have two lines eligible for upgrade next year so I don't have to live with the Rezound forever. I can just get the best phone next fall.

Be Careful with the Transformer. I owned one for a whopping 5 days before the charger almost burnt my house down.

Sure. There absolutely won't be anything better just on the horizon by the time next fall rolls around. Oh wait?

That's not the point. The point is I have two upgrades to use next year and 9 months isn't a long time to wait if I don't love the Rezound or the Nexus. I realize there is always something better on the horizon but I think some people are hyping this phone up too much. This phone would not satisfy me for 20 months. Sorry.

Speaking of equipment guide. I saw spec sheet a while back that showed that the GNEX had FM radio capabilities as well. Has anyone seen that also - or can someone with the GSM version confirm that?

There are no FM radio functions. The chipset may support it, but it's not implemented.
Can't you get an app like iHeartRadio and just stream stations?

So the camera and video aren't great and now the speakerphone might not be that great? :(

I went from having to get the Nexus to I might have to make a choice between it and the Rezound. I use the speaker all the time and I don't want another phone with a crappy camera. Sigh....

unfortunately, unless somebody patches over another volume fix (scary), the volume will likely underwhelm most. I had a hard time hearing the navigation the other night. I must admit that I don't have the quietest car in the world, but it is a modern family sedan... fortunately, there is a bluetooth solution for those with the appropriate hardware.

Good article about Android Music for those who will be using it -- I know I will.

How to use Google Music | Android Central

I'm quite disappointed with google music's need to reach the cloud - how much bandwidth will it take to use your phone as an mp3 player at three to five MB per four minute song? Unless I'm wrong, that could end up equaling a significant chunk of your monthly data. I'll be transferring all my music through usb plug and using the best music player out there by features

Yup. I am. I use it as a supplement cause I have the external charger too and the one I had charging wasn't quite done. That'll teach me to forget the extended battery at home

That's the issue haha. They actually gave me one when I got my refurbed Inc. Needless to say, it last about 15 minutes before I threw it away, made the phone unusable on the charger.

Thanks Han for the relay. Well, this is relatively the same time last week that all the reps started calling and setting up appts. etc. And it sounds like its happening again. A good sign. Lets just see if we can get through tomorrow morning without the bottom falling out, if we are still going strong by lunch tomorrow, I will start to get my hopes up.

Charging question :

Why does my phone act wonky when it is on the charger? The Phandroid app zooms in at a single touch anywhere on the screen. SwiftKey doesn't want to type at all. And notifications don't show up?? It's a Verizon charger.

Bad cable on the charger or the charger is wonky, outside of voltage spec.

I'm afraid to start the countdown again. Every time I count down, Verizon delays the Nexus. So NO MORE COUNTDOWNS! :)

OT:

Ah, the litigious society we live in! I just got a candy cane sucker with a warning label on it! No joke! It says "Caution! Sharp Edges! Hard candy may contain sharp edges that can cause injury. Please enjoy carefully."

No doubt somebody out there is just waiting to cut their lip or tongue on hard candy so they can file a lawsuit. Just amazing

Okay, back to Nexus!

I wish I could get just *one* VZW rep to set up an appointment with me. No one I've called in the Bay Area will commit to anything.

So far it sounds like my biggest hurdles with this phone will be ics in itself. I rarely use the phone as an actual phone. I have yet to use my DInc for navigation. And I might use it for music but headphones would negate a volume issue anyway.

NOW GIMME MY ICE CREAM SAMMICH!!!!!! :D

Ruth's Chris  just tell them to comp you the cash value of your meal and two drinks and use the money to pay for the phone and extra battery.
Haha, not a fan? There's a Ruth's Chris around the corner from my office here in Boston; I've never been, but I've heard good things about it. Have you had bad experiences there?

Guys, what is your final verdict on the camera? This is my only remaining question. I had always been satisfied by my 8 MP Sony camera that recently kicked the bucket, I'm nervous about "downgrading" to 5 MP (if I choose to only use the SGN camera) (and yes, I know pixels aren't everything, but I'm not sure what else there is to measure picture quality).

Would you humor me and answer a question?

If you were going to Europe for six months, would you be satisfied using the SGN's camera for all your touristy make-memories-in-pictures-to-last-a-lifetime needs? Or would you supplement your SGN with a dedicated camera with more pixels, or better photographic ability as measured by some other metric (despite the drawback of having to carry multiple devices in foreign countries)?

Again - thank you to everyone who has helped talk me through this decision
