You'll lose root but it will update and will work fine. I was in the same boat and finally gave in yesterday because it was prompting me every few minutes. In my case the update was pushed to my phone and kept giving me a popup to reboot and install now.

I posted the question here about the update file name or where it was located to remove it and never received an answer. After searching the phone for downloaded file without success I finally let it update to stop the annoyances.

My main reason for root was wifi tether and since the developer has not completed a working built for the GS2 yet I've decided to go stock until they have.

I believe a working wifi tether has been done. Here's a link, I just installed it two days ago and it works flawlessly on my rooted E4GT.

Wireless Tether is fine but not necessary. The devs have unlocked Sprint's Hotspot, which not only provides the same functionality, it does it in 4G.

I forgot to mention that the link I provided works with 4G as well.

I'm getting the annoying notification too but I don't want to lose root. I'm going to avoid the update. My phone is solid right now with none of the issues (LOS, 4g disconnect, etc.) that the update was fixing. I'm rooted with chris41g's stock rom EG30 repacked with CWM5. So nothing was flashed so I can keep everything pretty much stock with root as an addition.

I really need to get rid of that notification, any clue?

It works but in ad hoc mode only and without security.
Suggest you recheck, the issues you encountered appear to have been addressed. I'm typing this reply from my laptop, connected via hacked hotspot with WPA2 (AES) and access control enabled.

Edit: Oops, sorry, you were referring to an older version of Wifi Tether, not the hotspot hack. Sorry, my bad.

Try a ROM based on EK02.

The problem is the update has already pushed to the phone and we need to find and remove it to stop the persistent notifications.
I'm not sure about this, please correct me if I'm wrong. IIUC, he's rooted with EG30 or 31, and he hasn't applied the update. If he installs a rooted EK02 and the new modem, the notifications may cease because his signature to the tower would be back up to date.

It may stop the update except that the pushed update would still be on the phone and may very well trigger the notification.
