***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I am not sure if anyone mentioned this or not.

I have been wrapping my head around why Verizon has not promoted this phone at all. It could be a really big sale to regular people not just geeks like us. So I started thinking why are they keeping it silent and going with a silent launch it makes no sense at all. Then it hit me well not really because see I work for Verizon not on the cell side but in a diff side. Not sure if any of you know about the ewa work stoppage they had back in august but my life was a living hell for about 2 plus weeks haha as I am non union employee working a job half way across the country for a union employee on strike. The strike while it ended did not really end. They have yet to sign a contract and are still trying to hit Verizon where it hurts on the wireless side. When the iphone 4s came out they hit VZW stores hard with add campaigns of VZgreedy, Iwon'tupgrade, and picketing stores. I am wondering if they are trying to keep as much hype from this phone out of the public so the union won't pound them with tons of people at the stores trying to harass customers. I may be way off but still I could see this happening.

VCS Bargaining 2011: Report # 36 | District 2-13

I posted this yesterday but not sure anyone read it. I think it gives a plausible explanation as to why they are being so quite.

Just received a call from my sales rep at the local corporate store in Northern VA. He said that it's 90% certain that VerizonWireless is launching the GNex tomorrow - they have received their inventory and are now in the process of attaching the security cables to the demo units. His reasoning for the 90% is that VZW has pulled the plug before, so it could obviously happen again. I'm scheduled to see him at store opening tomorrow.

Is this really happening? :)

Since today Verizon announced that they "will definitely send a press release to announce availability." Tomorrow seems like a no-go right?

The key is reading into what they said. They said they will have a press release to send availability. They didn't say they would send a press release BEFORE availability... So as long as they send one, they have met their promise. I still think we will see it today, but I suppose it could be tomorrow.

Am I the only one who wants to wait until I meet my Nexus to name him/her? I want to really get a feel for his/her personality first.

I mean...I think that is a great idea, but of Han hadn't been here I would have said all the outlandish things he said and maybe even been banned...who knows? I am paying homage to the man that kept me out of trouble by getting into trouble for me, even if he didn't know he was doing so.

Just got a call from HHGregg kiosk rep that took my name and number on my adventure to get a Nexus last Friday. He said they have been given the green light to sell tomorrow morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. when they open. They only have 2 of them and he will not be there but he knew I was excited about the phone so he wanted me to be the 1st one to know. He gave me the name of the man who will be working tomorrow. Honestly, I doubt I will drive 40 minutes to get it if everyone is selling them tomorrow. But IF for some odd reason others do not sell them, I will happily drive 40 minutes to get it!

What gets my goat is they do this all the while we KNOW they have plenty of stock in most stores that could technically be getting sold NOW and that SOME have snuck out of atleast a few third party retailers. If you have stock ready for MOST people(maybe not all), why not just pick and date and go with it. On top of all this we also know the shipped phones are already at least one software update behind, what would it matter if they are two and the latest update wouldn't be ready until after release?

To me this all adds up to the sales are being held for reasons unrelated to the readyness to start selling the device from a support and logistical standpoint. It seems pretty obvious now it's being held NONE of us would be pleased about if we knew the whole truth. What I would really like to know is how long the device has been technically ready and when the earliest point was they could have logistically had stock available and launch set. Knowing this would probably make most of us even more ticked off about the whole behind the scenes ordeal that is obviously going on.
Just a thought....So it appears to everyone that the reason why Verizon is being so tight lipped is to try to increase their sales of tablets and the Razr, right? Well, I was just thinking...1. By not releasing the GNex, they are making the GNex a much bigger phone due to all the bad PR and all the different sites posting about it...not the Razr. 2. If they would just release the phone, a lot of this would calm down about the GNex and it wouldn't be front runner (or maybe it still would be...just not all this free publicity about it)....unless they wanted to do this all along! (Which to me is just mean and cruel).
People that I have spoke to about the phone and all the great things it has to offer now want one. If I had the phone I probably wouldn't have even mentioned it to them...I am just wandering if this is just a ploy to drum up free advertisement about the phone, because we are doing a really good job at advertising their GNex. Just a thought.

I have a question about how discounts are applied in corporate stores vs resellers. Before this week I had a $30 "loyalty" discount to apply to my next phone. I also now supposedly have the $100 "3G to 4G" discount which is supposed to kick in as soon as a 4G phone is activated. Can these 2 discounts be combined, meaning I could leave a corporate store tomorrow with a $169 Nexus?

Would one or both of these discounts also get applied if I were to say buy the phone from Radio Shack or Best Buy?

The reason I ask is I'm going to shoot for a corporate store tomorrow morning, but in the event they are out of stock, I will be b-lining to a reseller.

I was told that the only way to get my $100 promo discount (since my account was notated) was to order over the phone. Can't do it at any store. I also called and confirmed at two location near me that they wouldn't honor the discount even though they see the note on my account.

Kinda, yeah. If you had seen the race for milestone posts, you'd know. It got so silly, the Mods made a rule against it. But this would be up to the mods in the end anyway. No biggie.

FWIW, Phases sets the rules, mods enforce them, same true on the milestones stuff.

In a similar top secret process that Verizon might not put in a PR until after the phone releases, the plans for the end of the thread are set.

It's a joke - please don't speculate that VZW will make a PR for the end of this thread.

Even if they should. ;)

Just got a call from my local VZW Corp store MANAGER - saying they have the phones in stock, and the LAUNCH TOMORROW IS DEFINITE! Tomorrow I get my GN, finally! This manager has been very upfront with me.

Unfortunately, I have court tomorrow, so I won't be out until after 11am or so, probably. Hopefully they'll have one for me still! Going to see if they can bill it to my account today for pick up tomorrow!

As an aside, I think Ken7 and TrueLove should wait until 12/31 to get theirs, as it just wouldn't seem right for them to pick one up when they've put so little faith in them releasing tomorrow. :)

I apologize in advance, I am bored.

'Twas the night before Release Day, when all through the store
Not a creature was stirring, not a manager on the sales floor;
Accessories were hung on display racks with care,
In hopes that the Gnex soon would be there;
The Members were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Ice Cream Sandwiches danced in their heads;
And OTD in her nightie, and Steven58 in his cap,
Had just settled down for a brief late-night nap,
When from his computer there arose such a clatter,
Steven58 sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
He woke up his Mac to see what was causing the ruckus,
In the back of his mind thinking,

Since today Verizon announced that they "will definitely send a press release to announce availability." Tomorrow seems like a no-go right?

For one, although it's unusual in this case, companies do often announce the release of their products after they start selling, at least in some stores.

For another, have you been reading this thread? A ton of people have been promised phones from stores, a lot more than last week, so while they can still cancel last minute, chances are it's too late to stop them from selling a decent amount of phones tomorrow.

Do you have a screen protector on there? If not, it looks like the glass is very prone to finger prints/oil marks. :(

That is the film that comes shipped on the phone. not really a protector.

It is prone (the film) I took the film off and the screen isn't really that prone at all! hardly! It was amazing.

Can't answer anymore questions for awhile as I need to run to work now (took too much time playing with the phone!)

He said he will sell tomorrow to me, regardless. But that's what he was told. Sell. TOMORROW.

I'm happy for us all.
