Owners: Screen Protector

If you are seriously looking to protect your phone, which in itself is a 700 dollar investment (even if on contract and you paid 300, it's still a three quarter of a grand device), why would you not spend the extra 10 dollars to protect it over the course of a year or two? This going towards the people worried about the 75 cent to sub 5 dollar protector vs the 15 dollar.

I just want to know which is the superior product. No orange peel. No weird glare or screen clarity loss. and no loss in glassy feel. To me, from what I have seen (and possibly been sold on the previously posted propaganda'd youtube commercial) XO skins seems to be the superior choice atm...

I have not found a "superior" product to KlearKare and they are less than $3. This is why I think the extra $10 is a waste. If you need fancy packaging or a brand name, go ahead and spend the money, but I have used $15 screen protectors that were certainly no better. Again, just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

I would go xo as well dude. They have been around for years and I have used their stuff for years with 0 complaints. I haven't even heard of klear.. Whenever I get my dang phone, I will post some pics of it installed on here. Ill see if I can dig up any old posts of mine where I have.

I would have gone with SGP but I read about the concerns with the way they are cut. Not that I know it will be any better but I placed an order with Amazon for the Rearth Ringbo [Ultimate Clear] Screen Protector Cover Film. I read the reviews for the versions for other devices and they seemed respectable. Anyone have any experience with them?
Here's the link: http://amzn.com/B006B8B2CK

...and yes I do feel ridiculous ordering accessories for a phone that will never be released.

This is the opinion that makes a $10 price increase justifiable, you are paying for name recognition. To each their own, but you don't have to know the brand for them to make a quality product at a great price. It is rare, but that is why i posted my review of Klear, and several other brands, above.

whoa, i have never seen one as bad as the one on the right of that pic in my life!

even the zagg, which had the most orange peel effect of any i have used, was far better than the one used in that comparison.

could you go into more detail about this? do you have the one for the nexus or are you speaking from past experiences? i've had a couple of their screen protectors and they have always been edge to edge

yes, i have one for the Nexus. in the past it did go edge to edge (SGS2 for example). this is not the case for the GNex. i personally own it and there is a video review floating around here where the reviewer shows that it's not edge to edge. unfortunately this review wasn't posted before i ordered mine.

the oleophobic i had was definitely a matte finish. it looks like they now offer an "ultra oleophobic" in clear though. will update my post to reflect this.

not sure what Oleo you had exactly and for which device, but my post above is in reference to the international SGS2 i9100 Ultra Oleo as well as the Galaxy Nexus i9250 Ultra Oleo. both are clear with no matte finish.

edit: and in reference to this thread, i have yet to find a non-wet applicating screen protector that fits edge to edge on this device. for those saying there is no difference between a $0.75/3$/$15 screen protector, i believe you are dead wrong. let me ask you this, do you honestly believe a company like SGP to which many swear by sells a screen protector for $15 that doesn't even have the correct cuts is going to be beaten by a $3 screen protector??? nevermind SGP's excuse as to why it doesn't fit edge to edge. that is complete crap since i know for a fact that other screen protectors by them do fit edge to edge that are also non-wet applicating.

I have a Steinheil Ultra Crystal on my DX, since day 1. I love the clarity fingerprints like crazy which i dont really mind but after almost 2years its covered in fine scratches, cant tell when the screen is on and the kits do come with two.

I ordered a Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic for the Nexus, eagerly awaiting tomorrow to see how thats going to look/feel

I think I was using the VZW-branded screen protectors for the Droid X, which I've had since July '09 and haven't changed. Messy and has a couple of scratches, but works, is super clear, doesn't smudge too badly (cleans up with one quick wipe) and did the trick.

I have two TPU Diztronic cases, each of which come with a screen protector. Going to give those a whirl -- if no good, I'll buy one or two of the above-listed suggestions from Amazon.

have not tried: XO, Ghost Armor, Steinheil Flex, Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic, or PhantomSkinz. I would love to hear a review on those from anyone who has. :D

I've been using ghost armour for more than two years now. No complaints. They will replace the protector if there are any issues and they have even transferred the warranty on it to my different phones so I have only had to pay $5 each time I want one, and that includes the professional install. They have a machine that heat drys it and they have all sorts of crazy tools to put it on really nice.

Buying it from their site might be a bit different though. There have always been Ghost Armour kiosks in the best buys and shopping malls where I live (arizona)

Other than that the stuff is really tough. I've dropped many times, never had a break of scratch, even on the Armour. The one time I did have a problem was when I put my phone in my pocket in the first 24 hours and the "glue" that they use didn't set. My keys scratched the Armour. They replaced it for free.

Ive used Ghost Armor and Zagg previously and they both had their pros and cons. The Zagg was more durable, seemed to stay stuck longer and didn't peel and collect as much dust in the corners and seems.

The Ghost Armor was more glossy, less orange peel, but not as durable as the Zagg.

Does XO do full body skins? To be honest I generally like to apply a skin to the whole phone to prevent nicks and dings everywhere.

If they don't I may be more tempted to go with Ghost Armor again.

Imo it depends on the environment your phone is likely to be in as to which you should get. If you have an office type job and don't often subject your phone to the elements, one of the cheaper ones is likely going to be just fine for you. In my line of work(construction), none of them even come close to the level of protection the zagg gives from sand, dirt and keys. I don't want to have my screen be fine but the protector show 864324 scratches on the front and have to change it out every few months, and with my og droid and dinc, zagg got my money after proving its superiority in my environment.

Btw: lucked up on the weekend after Thanksgiving and zagg was selling them for 7.50, so it wasn't a $10 difference

I am using the steinheil flex and it looks fantastic. It does have slight orange peel effect but nowhere near as bad as the zagg protectors, the wet application was easy and it goes edge to edge. I haven't found it to affect screen clarity, of course you're going to get weird rainbow effects at first but that's because there is moisture under the protector.

Once that evaporates all is good. It is not as smooth as the olephobic but i prefer the full coverage. It is not as grippy as you would imagine and it is still smooth to the touch.

Is the consensus from everyone that a screen protector on this device is a good idea? I'm especially asking those who have come from phones with Gorilla Glass and have not been in favor of them in the past.

gorilla glass has been hit or miss for me. on my OG droid, it was amazing. carried that thing in my pocket with keys/change/lighters for 18 months and didn't get a single scratch. my experience on the thunderbolt was the exact opposite. i carried it the same way, and had hairline scratches all over the screen within a month. i covered them with a screen protector after that and didn't think about them again until i took the protector off to sell it. i can't believe the difference in two devices, both listed on the official Corning Gorilla Glass website, but it really was night and day.

i won't be tempting fate with my GNex. screen protector on from day 1, and will wait for other people to chime in about the durability of the "fortified glass", before deciding if i want to take it off or not.

i bought the crappy verizon one just until i get a real one. have tremendous respect for the skinobi. my droid inc fell out of a folding camp chair when the wind blew it over and the screen landed on some pointy rocks. i only had the phone for a few weeks and i knew i was screwed. much to my surprise the screen was perfectly fine! there was a little mark on the protector but it definitely saved my screen!

It doesn't look like it. Personally I stopped using full bodies because I am not an apple user with a glass back. The past few years of droids I have owned have teflon backs an nothing stays stuck long to them. Plus a skin doesnt stop impact from shocking the phone, so I use cases now. Usually the otterbox.

My phone gets its own pocket with nothing else like keys or change so I won't be doing a screen protector on the GNex. I started off with one on my OG Droid and pulled it off after about a week and never looked back. Perfect as the day I got it upon its retirement yesterday.

I think it all depends on if your phone will share a pocket with anything else, or if you are a woman and just throw it in your purse. For me, own pocket does the trick just fine.
