***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

At this point I'm emotionally all in for a launch tomorrow. It's been fun/addicting to be a part of this thread. I have checked on here almost everyday since I heard about the phone. From the perspective of an OG Droid user I can say that I probably am not ready for this phone. I hope it will blow me away and that I can finally be freed from VZW's hold over me. Good luck to all who are going to stores to find one.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ IF YOU PLANNED ON ADDING THE PHONE TO YOUR BILL:

It cannot be done. I spoke with a CSR on the phone 15 minutes ago, and she said the phone is not eligible to be added onto a bill. I just received a text from one of my insiders who said the same thing. Fortunately, I have the money (will be scraping together pennies; but its worth it). I just wanted to put this out there in case some of you were planning on walking in, adding it to your bill, and leaving. According to the two people I spoke to, it does not look feasible. I'm glad that I asked. I would have been pissed.

That's strange, my local corporate store said it wouldn't be a problem.......

Thank you all for making this trip not only bearable but entertaining, enlightening, and down right amusing.

As of late August or Early September I was lurking and posting in the HTC Vigor thread thinking that was the phone for me, since I thought I was an HTC only guy. Then in October I jumped ship, made the switch and never looked back...sure the phone speaks for itself, but I'm fairly certain it was because of all of you and not just the device.

It's been a crazy ride but I will never look back on all this madness with one negative thought because in the end it was all worth it...and I can say that without even having the phone yet.

Until the next chapter. Thanks again.

-Joe

Thank you Joe I've enjoyed your posts :)

I was playing with the phone sim and noticed that in there is a tutorial for "Turn off auto-syncing".

The simulator is wrong. Unselecting this option will allow the phone to sync over the cell towers and will waste your data if you're on a limited plan.
I've reported this to Verizon. Maybe I'll get a credit to my account as a reward?
If not, at least I'll be saving some customers and employees the headache of dealing with data overages related to this.

I can see this being a big problem for parents with teens on a limited data account.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

No reward for me. The rep who responded was too stupid to even understand the statement. Her response is hidden below.

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless via our Website, my name is Tamika. I know how important it is to be clear about your options to pursue support for your device, and it is my pleasure to assist you today.

I apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced. Thank you very much for your feedback. Simulators, whether on the Verizon Wireless website or other websites that you may visit, will often require a large volume of data. We would recommend accessing simulators from a desktop or laptop computer, as they will be much easier to view and the screen will provide easier access to the information that is included. Most simulators are not optimized for mobile devices, so this would explain why you may be required to connect to wi-fi.

I do think that it is great that you are interested in simulators and tools that will help you operate your device. I am not sure if you are already aware of this or not, but we have new Workshops! I am glad that you are considering attending one. Our Wireless Workshops are free, and provide hands-on demonstration, and instructions on a variety of topics. To attend a Wireless Workshop, you must sign up online. For your convenience, I will provide you with a direct link to the Workshop section of your website. All you have to do is follow the simple steps on the screen.

Where is it mentioned that accessories are 50% off? I want an extended battery and while I won't cough up 50 dollars for one, I think I can swing 25 bucks.
I've never seen a launch where they don't push accessories hard with some deep discounts. Usually I don't bite, because you'll see them even cheaper on ebay a week later.

I don't know anything for a fact though. But it was posted that all accessories through 611 sales are 50% off. Don't know about stores.

Ok well here's my farewell post; will continue posting until the final moment I am able to before Steven closes this thread, but... here it goes:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it looks like this is it. We've come this far and we've finally reached our destination after months and months of waiting, speculating, and discussing. Rumors flew this way and that, the occasional flame war was shot down by Steven's frequent PSAs, but nonetheless it has been an interesting ride. Now that I look back on this, I'm so honored to have participated in such a sophisticated thread with such sophisticated people. Being one of the only true technology nerds in my school, I don't really have anyone to talk to about this kind of stuff, but you guys are so understanding! Never before have I felt so connected to random people on the internet through a common interest.

So, now that all is said and done, I'd just like to thank the moderators who took part in making this thread civil (for the most part), well-rounded, and well-mannered. EarlyMon took care of most of the argument-cleaning and infractions, while Steven58 warned us to keep things under control underneath his ever-recurring lines and to "try not to kill each other" night after night. Of course, Rob and Phases made the occasional entrance (although I barely remember it) as well.

But I also need to thank those non-moderators who have played just as important of a role in keeping the thread fun and informative; to BabyBlue for her nightly avatars and cracking jokes to keep us entertained, and to others who fueled a mostly unintrusive and tangential OT discussion, thank you. To any of those who shared any sort of confirmation of information from reps, including first time posters, Han's sister, and Steven's source, thank you. This thread simply would not have been what it was if it weren't for the collaborative culmination of all these independent sources of information.

Lastly, (and this may come as a shocker to a lot of you), I think Google, Samsung, and even Verizon deserve a round of applause. I've never seen anywhere near this much hype for a phone (not even for iPhones) and it truly is a feat of engineering and software development to make such a glorious device that we've been lusting over for oh so long. Throughout the course of our journey, we've gotten upset, even downright infuriated with Verizon for botching the release of this flagship Android beast, but in the end we have to give props to them for bringing us the best smartphone on the market on the best network in the U.S. I'm sure we'll all forget about ever being mad at Verizon once we finally have the phones in our hands :D

So, all that said, I conclude this post with one universal "thanks" to all involved in the thread. It's been such a fun ride and I could never stand being away from the thread for any significant amount of time, knowing it would be buzzing away and zooming along. But now that it's all over, I'll definitely feel a void in my daily routine ;)

This is farewell, but not goodbye! I hope to continue our obsession in the sub-forum.

I posted few pages back:ARRG!
I heard the Gnex was going to be released tomorrow...YAY!! So I went to vzw corporate store and had them check my acct for $100 promo. There was a note from CSR stating that I was eligible, though they had not heard of it. They tried to process another 4G phone through as an upgrade to see what would happen. They're computer said I wasn't "tagged", meaning not eligible for that upgrade, despite note from CSR. The manager read from the screen and it said something to the effect of " CSR shall not overwrite promotions and add to account that aren't automatically eligible". I think the CSR I had talked to that said I was eligible for promo made a mistake....a $100 mistake. I very nicely went back and forth with manager and salesman, but in the end there was no way I was getting the promo. Thought you all should be given a heads up for when you go to order and discount is not available. Its bittersweet, happy yet pissed. BTW: all batteries are 1/2 off till Dec 31st. Gnex extended battery is $25. I don't know if any of this has been mentioned, just got home.

sorry for quoting myself/ double posting

I believe this is what you were looking for...wahoo95 says that VERIZON stores will have batteries half price.

Thanks for the information and entertainment, everyone! I haven't been an active poster, but have been an avid reader/lurker. Special thanks to the mods/guides for keeping the thread clean. I appreciate good discussions without foul language or inappropriate content. I can't wait to pick my Nexus up at 9am tomorrow!

Not sure why we are all saying our goodbye's tonight but . . .

When I came in I was 50/50 on the fence between the Rezound and the Gnex. If I was leaning any way it was towards the Rezound since I loved my Dinc so much. The more I researched, the more I knew the Gnex was for me.

It doesn't seem like it's been a little more than 2 months since I started contributing here, but that's how time passes when it's two weeks at a time. Watching the Hong Kong announcement of the Gnex via LIVE WEBCAST was exciting!
Ice Cream Sandwich / Galaxy Nexus Unveiling - YouTube

But alas, Steve Jobs died and it's US announcement seemed to be pushed back.. We complained quietly as not to be to disrespectful of the dead regardless of how we felt about him. They said:
"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

We grew hopeful that not long after that we would hear of the release of our Nexus, but we were wrong. We grew FURIOUS when we found out that the "Exclusive" tag was removed from the Verizon sign up page and even more angry when we found out that Europe would get it before we did here in the US. Europe wasn't alone, it seemed that EVERYONE but the US was getting it the phone.

We were hopeful for rumors of November the 17th only to find out that was the UK's date BUT November 21st was very likely. It was wrong again.

We asked Rob draft a letter for us but not in the name of Android Forums and NOTHING changed. Now here we sit on the eve of what we have aspired for. Our Galaxy Nexus will be in our hands this time tomorrow. Will you find completeness in it? I doubt it, but at least we feel we've accomplished something.

Han and I both got our hands smacked for things we didn't totally agree with, asked to be banned and threw a fit and said we were leaving only to be brought back by kind words, support and our desire to contribute to this forum for the Galaxy Nexus.

Thanks to Steven (and your source), Han (and your sis), OTD, Captian Ron, Baby Blues (even though I think your avatars are inappropriate), Nj02vette, Chief, etc. etc. etc. You all helped to drive excitement that proved to be an EPIC WIN in the end. I look forward to seeing you all in the "All things root" section soon.

As for my previous phone I will say good riddance to these old things they searved their purpose but very happy to see them go the way of the Dodo.
