I got my update a couple of days ago.
Today I had my first BSOD, I think. The screen was black, except for the blue bar at the top. The phone wouldn't do anything. I had just clicked on the google calendar when it happened. I put it back in the holster and checked it a half hour later thinking maybe it was busy doing something. Nope - locked up. Battery pull and everything is ok again.
This never happened BEFORE the update. hmmm...

And you know what my camera does take pictures faster now, but they're not in focus. I'd rather wait a second and get a sharp picture.

I received the update a couple of days ago and continued to get the drop of data connection. Yesterday, I was so annoyed that i called VZW tech support to complaint again(this was about the 10th call since I got the phone in Sept.).
Long story short they're sending me a Razr as a replacement, hopefully this one won't be an issue.
I'm hopeful that the problem is the phone and not VZW, otherwise i will continue to have issues and it was all for naught.

I assume you already changed the SIM card in the Bionic and it didn't help.

I'd be interested in hearing the result of that and the result of you going to the Razr.

again... BSOD this time it is really a black screen.
I picked up my phone and tried to wake it up - nothing. Unresponsive. black screen.
tried the power button, tapping the screen, press and hold the power button, vol up/down/power, help themfor 10 seconds, nothing.
another battery pull.
how do you troubleshoot a black screened unresponsive phone?

I was on my second phone/sim and problem still there. Funny thing was that sometimes i'd go days with maybe a drop or two and other times it would not stay connected for more than a few minutes.

I wait to see if the Razr makes any difference. I should receive it sometime today.

Just curious but was the notification light also flashing with the BSOD? I have had these 3 or 4 times and somehow I think it is related to an application. I have not had one since I did a full factory re-set and gradually put apps back on. It's been several weeks since I have had one.

Also another consideration is depending on where you live it is quite cold outside. I wonder how many of these BSOD's are because of temperature problems. I.e. leaving phone in vehicle or something out in the cold. A friend of mine was having BSOD on his brand new Ipod 4S and it was because it was getting too cold.

YES it was. I use a program, pardon me, app, called Light Flow to give me different color blinks for different things. email, text, etc.
Anyone else having this problem? Maybe I'll uninstall it for a while and see how the phone behaves.

The phone was on my desk, nice and toasty 70 degrees.

Well I have never used pardon me light flow or whatever but I have noticed the notification light is usually blinking when I have had a BSOD.

***WARNING***

When I did the OTA update, my Market "AUTO UPDATE" settings were changed from "NO" to "YES".

I don't like AUTO UPDATING APPS and it was mostly too late by the time I noticed...in case there are others like me.

Interesting... may I ask why you don't like auto updating apps? Should I not like them, either? ;-) I have been getting them all along and ... so far ... no problems (that I know about).

I got a popup notification for the update this morning. At my office (where I am now) I have the most awful, spotty/sporadic data signal and no wifi... so it's still downloading! LOL! It's at 92% and I'm very impatient. I hadn't visited here in a while, so I hadn't even thought to check for the update in a couple of weeks... so I was happy to see it appear today!

I am hopeful that the update will resolve my minor quibbles with this phone and leave me once again satisfied with it. As much as I'd love to get a Nexus, I just can't justify the cost... especially now that my return window for the Bionic has closed! LOL!

Well, if all your updates have not had problems than you're cool. I have had and have read on many apps that an [app] update sometimes creates more problems or doesn't work at all after updating. I like to wait a little while before updating to see it's smooth sailing.

WE'll only know for sure in the future - but there is something n the works for those on leaked updates to bring them back to the stock OTA. Problem is that I ain't giving my 5.7.893 up for nothing.

Wish I could have been on the same team as you. :)

I went to 5.7.893 and had tons of data freezes and drops. Went back to 5.5.886 and she has been pretty damn solid since.

I did get the notification for the update yesterday and seemed to take forever to download. Probably like 2 or more hours with a 4G connection. After that it went to install and I get the "Install Failed" message. I tried downloading a couple more times, once on WiFi and still get the same error.

Would the failed update have anything to do with me going to 5.7.893 then back to 5.5.886?

I am not rooted BTW.

It must be Christmas.... I received the OTA yesterday, works fine... Bionic is much smoother & faster now with no network lockups... And on my way to work this morning, my home/work area is 4G.... If I am dreaming, please don't wake me up. Whats's next ICS?

UPDATE:
Day 3 & :). Still seamless 3G/4G/WiFi transitions, phone is still peppy, no crashes or forced re-boots and speed test (home WiFi) are good to great (24-11Mb down & 11-5Mb up). So far I'm pleased with this OTA. Only downside is I don't gert 4G at home, cuts out about 1 mile from my house, but WiFi works there. I'm a happpy camper.

Please forgive a question from a relative newbie. Several posters have mentioned testing download and upload speeds. Is this information available from the apps that came with the phone, or is there an app anyone can recommend for this?

FWIW, the update was pushed to my phone (unrooted, pretty much standard except for a bunch of apps from the Android Market) yesterday morning, and I'm pleased with the improvements so far.
