***Official G-Nex first impressions thread*** Love it? Hate it?

Good god this phone is huge. My OG Droid feels like a peanut when I hold it now, compared to this thing. Love it! Love the new folder support. Love being able to disable any App.

Things I didn't like? Getting stuck in the bootloader trying to unlock it. The drivers from the samsung site work when the phone is booted up. But when you reboot it to bootloader, windows doesn't recognize it. Took me 30 minutes to find a thread with the naked drivers that actually worked in bootloader mode so I could run the unlock command.

Other dislike is the fact that the stupid facebook app doesn't have the sync with contacts option. I know, I know, I read the articles why. It still pisses me off!

love everything else!

For those of you complaining of bad reception. I had a friend swear by this. He told me to stress that you should not be skeptical because he was absolutely flaberghasted by the increase in signal and battery.

Samsung Antenna Booster T401g/Epic 4G/R900/R570/R451c/Gravity/Admire/Nexus/Gem Samsung Antenna Booster T401g/Epic 4G/R900/R570/R451c/Gravity/Admire/Nexus/Gem | eBay

I'd be concerned with it interfering with the NFC on the battery but definitely worth a shot if people have bad issues.

I just picked up my Galaxy Nexus and love it. I had 3 iPhones before this going back to 2007 so this is a real big change.

  • Can anyone suggest any good apps I might be missing (other than the obvious ones)?
  • Also whats the deal with rooting and roms? Doesn't everyone want "vanilla" android on their device? What are the good roms and why?
  • I listen to a lot of podcasts and always did through iTunes. I read that doggcathcer is a good podcast app. Any thoughts?
Thanks! Looking forward to being a part of the community.

Picked up my precious this morning... They opened up about 10 minutes early... think they felt bad for me staring in the store from my car lol.

Anyway, smooth process, smooth phone. I'm not in a 4g town, but i'm between 2 of them and work in 1 a couple days a week. I'll be taking the 4G for a ride on Monday for sure.

4.02 kicked out before I even left the store.

What area are you in? I live in Shelby Township and I'm not having any problems like that.

I picked it up from the Northville Corp store. I went back after work and they switched out the phone first, still had the issue and then they put a new Sim card in a new phone and it seems to be all set. Now its time to get down to business and start playing....

Alright, so I left work an hour in this morning to go wait in the parking lot of the Verizon (Bolingbrook location, Was anyone there this morning from the board?)

3rd in line. So yeh so I was trading in the HTC Rezound....having second thoughts. I kinda liked the phone with the sense UI on it but again the rezound was my first android. When I got my hands on the delay nexus while my rep was getting me onto my own nexus, I was suprised how big the phone was compared to the Rezound.....

I said goodbye to the Rezound and hello to a Smoking hot phone. Never was one to get anything tech wise on the launch day. I like the fun in that now.

I haven't done much to the phone since 10am. I only added my jobs exchange account. Also, I dread organizing my contacts from work and gmail, and VZW backup app. I had it all sorted out on the Rezound after an hour and now I didnt want to go through it again but ironing it out that clutter as I type.

So yeh, im eating so I can have fuel to play with this until bedtime.

Quick Question, am I blind or how do I change the analog clock on the homepage to digital?

Overall with the limited time I had using the phone today while working; I am impressed.

Now tomorrow I have a half day of work then heading to Chicago to roam around with some buddies!

Cheers.

PS. Only disapointing thing is the 4G signal at work and in the car is low or no bars.....while the rezound had 3 bars at least anywhere. Hopefully its on the network side right now and not the phone. Oh wellz.

After four attempts to get it activated, I must say I love it, and am very glad I held out for this device.

I'm getting 16mb and 8mb, Up/Down.

I am a little surprised at how familiar I am with ICS after running Condemned Soul's latest CM7 ROM on my Eris... no learning curve at all.

I am very surprised at how comfortable it is, despite the size. The Razr was a no go from the beginning for me, because it felt horrible in my hand. The GN fits like a glove.

A+ Grade on my first three hours of use.
