I just picked one up for my galaxy nexus this morning. Haven't used it, and can't say anything about it's quality, but overstock and eforcity are both brands I know so I'm hoping for the best. At $7.99 shipped, it's about half the cost of what I could find on Amazon. Here's to keeping my fingers crossed it works well!

Micro-USB 5-pin to HDMI MHL Adapter | Overstock.com

The problem with MHL adapters is they don't charge, and block up the usb port for came controllers and other stuff.
but what if you found a three way micro usb hub (i cant find one)

port 1 power
port 2 game controller
port 3 mhl adapter

Damn, I just purchased the 7.99 one the OP linked. Too bad I didn't see this in time! Does it come as a bundle?!?!

it sells for $20+ on eforcity's site, who makes the product, so I figure it can't be the worst product in the world.

Lots of folks are using the efocity model for HTC and Samsung MHL phones. It's reported to be a good product.

Do these charge the phone when connected to HDMI? $7.99 sounds much better than $60 for the multimedia dock.

The MHL spec calls for charging while connected.

But there are two catches - multimedia playback is often power-intensive on the phone, so often the charging simply keeps up with the drain as you go along.

Second - there's been at least one reported case with the Nexus where it wouldn't playback movies unless it already had a 73% charge to begin with.

The MHL port can act as a microUSB or a media port - with a limited number of pins, it won't do both at this time.

I think you want to look into various Bluetooth options, as BT game controllers for Android are evolving rapidly. One is available with OnLive for Android, for example. Others are in development or may already be available, you'll have to check for that.

That's his conception/desire. You can't buy it, doesn't exist, sorry.

Does an MHL adapter charge the phone or not while streaming media? There seem to be conflicting comments in here and I R CONFYUZD

MHL charges while streaming - but - everything runs off of your battery, even while charging.

Depending upon what the phone is really doing, what you are streaming, the charging may increase, hold, or allow battery drain to happen less slowly.

Streaming a slideshow of photos is not to going to eat power at the same rate as the most intensive 3D game you find, for example.

Hope that clarifies.

Yeah, I missed it too. But there was a USB-micro to USB host cable for $2.99 shipped as a related item on the order page. I picked one up for connecting a USB thumb drive in host mode. Thanks, OP! :)

Sincerely doubt that will work. The adapter itself is active, meaning: it needs power on that microUSB port to function properly.
