Help Anyone still noticing the blotchy screens?

This problem was noted in posts early on and I am wondering if people exchanged their phones or are just dealing with it, or are there allot of phone out there that this is not a problem. I just got the HD Dock accessory as part of my Costco package and when in bedside mode it is really noticeable when the screen dims. It looks like a majic marker line accross the bottom half of the screen. The screen looks great otherwise.

Yes mine has it too. I've decided to ask for a replacement which should be here Monday. I won't stop sending them back until I get a screen with 0 blotches. Not paying 750 for a blotchy screen! I've bought HD TVs for 400 that didn't have any problems. It's hard to pay almost double that and have crappy blotches when I watch movies in the dark.

Have not even bothered checking. I do not work in a dark room with the phone off.

How does it matter what the scree looks like when it is off anyway?

I do work in a dark room for 9 hours a day (laboratory) and with screen on auto brightness, it is dim enough to see the spattered screen, and yes when the phone is on I can see it. I can not see it while off. It is a defect, I don't care if I only see it once a month. Guess some people just have higher standards for a $700 phone. Don't get upset that other people want something of great quality!

Not different standard, different attitude toward that affect/ do not affect me. Simply got tired of complaining at some point as it gets me nowhere. If I get a defective phone I replace it and if I get a phone that I do not like I buy a different one.

If you believe you got a defective phone nothing should stop you from replacing it. There is nothing to discuss here.

Good luck with that. I have a feeling you are going to be returning every RAZR they send you. This is a known effect of the manufacturing process for the screen they use. It's been discussed ad nauseum. 99.9% of people won't notice the blotches unless they actively try to find them.

I'd love to be a salesman anywhere you were shopping! Plus, you know that razr wallpaper with the eye and black around it? If I use that wallpaper, I can see my blotches anytime. Not in a dark room only. You may have low standards, but I do not, sorry.

As we have tried to tell you its a byproduct of the manufacturing process Samsung is using to make the screens. As its part of the manufacturing process and is intended to be there its NOT by definition a defect. All current generation Samsung AMOLED screens have the splotches and lines to some degree whether they are the SAMOLED, SAMOLED Advanced or SAMOLED Plus. This is one of the big reasons we have not had this tech in larger screen applications like televisions that will be used in a dark environments often. All new screen tech that has come along including plasma and LCD have had varying issues before they were perfected and just like them AMOLED will need some time before its perfected.

Here is a post showing the splotches on other Samsung made SAMOLED screens.

As you can see the splotches are there. They are going to be there no matter home many times you exchange it. They are going to be there no matter what device you buy if it has SAMOLED screen. Your only options are to accept it or get a device with an LCD. No amounts of screaming defect, exchanging your device, or posting is going to change the way Samsung makes their screens as multiple millions of people purchase them each year. Accept it and move on.

Freaky, I have actively searched for this issue on my screen and cannot for the life of me see any splotches as described. Perhaps they figured it out on my phone? My build date is 10/26/2011 6:47 PM CDT

You are only going to notice it under a very specific set of circumstances and there is also going to be a wide mount of variance on how bad it is. If you do not notice then there is no point in looking for it. Just enjoy your device.

LOL.

IF I thought this was a "defect" and IF I noticed it in normal use and IF it bothered me, I might consider returning it. As it is, it's NOT a "defect", I DON'T notice it in normal everyday use, and therefore it does NOT bother me.

Now, get off your high horse. Just because someone doesn't go looking for something in manufactured conditions that they don't normally use their phone in doesn't mean they have "low standards".

My wife's epic, my nexus s and my galaxy s2 had nothing like this. Neither did my buddies captivate or my brother in laws epic. I've never seen anyone's phone screen with this kind of problem and I've seen my fair share of samoled screens. Meanwhile I'm on my second razr and both have had it really bad.

Folks with other phones with Amoled screens mentioned seeing this, there is a pic of the G Nex with the same look.

Its an effect of some Amoled screens. Thats all there is to it. Sorry...lol

Szadzik makes an interesting observation about qHD or HD screens. I wonder know if that has to do with it? But the GS2 international version isnt qHD or HD. I still go with its an effect of Amoled screens on general.

I was initially made believe that his only is a problem with PenTile screens.

Do not know if that is true or not as I have not expertise in this field.

None. If u read what I quoted it said ALL SAMOLED and SAMOLED plus screens. Didn't say anything about pentile or qhd there. So we're talking about two different things.
is it a by product of samoled or qhd or pentile? All the arguments I read said samoled is the cause.

It started when Samsung switched to a newer manufacturing method that has higher yields. The only ones that should exhibit the blotches are SAMOLED Plus, SAMOLED Advanced, and SAMOLED HD. Anything prior should not have them.

Also as some sources have reported Samsung changed the materials they used along with the new manufacturing process to get costs down to 20% less than the S-LCD. This cost reduction is likely why Moto went SAMOLED for the Razr. The new process and materials started being used in May 2011 when Samsung started using their 5.5 Gen plant. This would seem to indicate the SGS II's made prior to May 2011 would not exhibit the blotches. Anything made after May 2011 and is SAMOLED Plus, SAMOLED Advanced, or SAMOLED HD is going to exhibit the blotches to some degree. It also seems that on the SAMOLED HD on the Nexus this new process has introduced some noise that looks like the display is "sparkly".

As I said above I was led to believe it only occurs on the newer screens.
