Rezound in my right hand...G-Nex in my left

Not sure I have ever been this torn. Granted I am recently converted from years of using the iPhone with the Rezound being my first android phone. Perhaps I am missing the bigger picture of what owning an android phone truly means....but here is my take.

LOOK/FEEL: I am indifferent here. I think both phones look and feel great and honestly dont have a preference here.

SCREEN: Here is where my struggles begin. I feel if I look straight on at the screens, the whites are bright and crisp on the Rezound. I feel like colors, while perhaps a bit more dull, are also more true. Seems like the screen on the G-Nex is more of a hazy/soft eggshell color as opposed to bright white. I'm chalking this up as LCD vs Super Amoled. With that said, the extra width and size of the G-Nex screen is awesome.

SPEAKER/VOLUME: I find the in-call volume to be fine on both. The difference is loud and clear on the external speaker. The Rezound sounds much louder which is nice when watching youtube, movies, etc.

CAMERA: No comparison. I know I know, its a camera on a phone. But having a four year old, pets, idiot friends, etc....the best camera is the camera in your hand and my phone is always with me. I have taken comparison shots and video under every circumstance and while some G-Nex photos allow more light, the Rezound pics are always more crisp with added detail.

SOFTWARE: ICS is nice, very nice. I think that I am too new to the platform to see the large difference between Gingerbread and ICS. Matter of fact, I find that I do like Sense on the Rezound and experience little to no lag. But, that could just be me.

BATTERY: Equally bad. The Rezound has a 2750 mAh option if you want to last the entire day under heavy use....while carrying around a brick. The G-Nex extended battery adds next to no size...but not sure how much added benefit there is to battery life.

INTANGIBLES: I like the keyboard WAY better on the G-Nex, as well as the notification light, larger screen, inclusion of ICS, first to get updates, font style, and software buttons.

The main hangups keeping me from returning this Rezound are the eggshell/washed appearance of the G-Nex screen, low speaker volume, and poor camera. Honestly.....this decision process SUCKS!!

You've got a hard choice :D

From what you have said I am inclined to tell you to stick with the rezound unless you are really pulled to the larger screen on the nexus.

ICS will come to the rezound HTC has confirmed that, I don't think the audio/camera/battery/screen appearance will change in the comparison. Also if you like Sense are aren't turned away by it then it is easiest to get it on HTC devices, sure you can download apps to emulate it more or less but it is available stock and you know it will be included in every OTA when it is on an HTC device.

Whichever choice you make you are going to have a great phone, good luck :D

Don't forget about reception! If you live or travel in marginal 4G areas, the Rezound will unquestionably hold the signal better for you.

I agree with you though, both screens are nice. I'm battling over the mediocre 4G reception on the Nexus at this point know how much better the Rezound is. I really like the Nexus and have been pleasantly surprised at how good the battery life has actually been.

It's funny you ask because I think the brightness of the Rezound being so similar to what I am used to on the iphone is what draws me in. The two are nearly identical in terms of brightness and extreme whites.

If you are viewing a super amoled screen like on the Galaxy Nexus, it will actually appear brighter and white from angles compared to the lcd screen of the Rezound.

I see a lot of complaints about the screen on the nexus, but to be fair you have to turn the brightness up. The automatic brightness on the nexus is way too aggressive. I have yet to see it go to fill brightness, which is why whites are so Grey.

Maybe their is an app like cyanogenmod has to adjust this. It really doesn't give this phone a fair shake.

In my situation I had the brightness up all of the way, I put seven sets of eyes to the test as well just to make sure it wasn't me. I'd imagine this wouldn't even phase most people. Gets to me though.

Thank you again.

I really don't see why anyone would care about angles on a phone though...

It's does not come w/ theater seating.

There is no question about it. Whites are grey on the Nexus. I'm thinking this is to prevent the battery from blowing up maybe? :D

Black levels are a lot more important to me than any other screen spec than resolution, for any type of display. The closer a display's ability to reproduce black as truly black is, the better it looks. So to the end, SAMOLED screens are the best. The more black, black is, the more pop any image has. White may not be as true of a white, but, that's much less important when reproducing an accurate and vivid image. As soon as you stop comparing them side by side, the color of white is far less important. Put any two different displays next to eachother and white will look different. Most displays are either too hot or too cold when showing white but if you stop comparing it to something else you won't notice. Black however, isn't a tint issue at all. It just needs to be black.

I "had" the same dilemma 2 days ago. Keep the Rezound or get the Nexus. I got the Rezound for $49 on black Friday and did not believe the Nexus was worth the $250 premium and the hassle to swap it out (costco 90 return policy). So I stayed up on Wednesday night toying with the idea and when I added the Nexus to my Verizon cart they gave me $100 off (4G promotion). So I got 2 4G superphones for $250 and decided to keep both. My wife gets the Rezound and I get the Nexus.
Imho I would take the Rezound hardware if both had the same software with unlocked bootloader. The screen quality is excellent, removable SD card, better camera and I'm a sucker for dedicated keys. And the headphones are a real bonus. The true power of the Nexus is that it's a developers phone and you have full control over the software. The Nexus also feels like a well balanced put together package out of the box. But if your not rooting or using custom roms the Rezound is fine. Otherwise the only real benefit is receiving faster upgrades. Regardless of which one you pick both are good. If you get the Nexus be prepared for some late nights playing with Roms (I'm getting too old for this).

Another thing to consider is while the rezound will get ics, you don't know when. BUT the rezound probably won't get jellybean at least not officially, where as the nexus will assuredly get jellybean and whatever comes after that, and probably after that as well

Hmmmm krispy kreme, and lolipop? Who knows?

That's a great point. I just dont think I could ride out this camera until the next big update. I think I could live with all else. But the camera is just bad.

whites are grey on the nexus, until you look off axis, and then they are either cyan or magenta...depending on angle.

I hate saying this, and am very disappointmed to be saying it, but the iPhone KILLS the nexus in screen quality.

Since the REZOUND has 4 lower keys... how will ICS be on this phone when the added 3 ICS keys are added on screen?

7 keys and lowered screen space? Is that what I'm hearing?

While the whites are not as bright as LCD or IPS panels, they are not gray, and certainly not cyan or magenta. All other colors on SAMOLED smack the snot out of either technology.

That's what nearly everyone says about the super amoled colors. I thought at times they looked phenomenal and other times washed out by the, for lack of a better description, tinted screen. As if looking at vibrant colors through slightly tinted glasses.

Any one else have thoughts on the nexus camera pica and video? And a HUGE thanks to all the great feedback and discussion!!

I disagree. From what I have seen, the Nexus screen is just as good or better than the iphone. When it comes to screen technology, I would give the benefit to Samsung. Samsung has been building Tv's for sometime and I am sure they know what they are doing.

i agree with op on a lot.

Keyboard is awesome on nexus. However i have ics on an Incredible and it is same keyboard so the rezound will probably get same one if you flash an aosp rom.

I prefer nexus display better than rezound but im coming from incredible with amoled

The external speaker i agree its ten fold better on the rezound.

The nexus 4g radio isnt good which im surprised you didnt mention.. that is biggest deal breaker for mw. But i dont think im goinf back to the rezound.

You make real points and arent biased because omgomg its a nexus

Man, I am curious to try out the 4G on the nexus now. I don't live in a 4G area, but where I work has coverage so I'll have to wait until Monday.
I will say this, I have been having issues with my Rezound where, when switching from 1x to 3G, I'll lose data for up to a minute or more. Also happens when leaving home, thus hopping from wifi to 3G. I'll be 4 blocks away before 3G kicks in. Sometimes I just drop 3G all together while my wife's iphone does not. I'll be watching this with my GN.
Note: This is my second Rezound, same radio results so I dont believe it is a faulty phone.
