Help Doesnt it bum you out a little that...

What do people do, just go to a local parking lot with no outlets and sit and load websites via lte?

I think this is exactly it. Get a new toy, and sure it's tempting to play with all the features, constantly. I fell into that when I got my first smartphone. Dicked around with it frequently at work. Shortly thereafter, my usage got routine and battery life went way up.

Was it because Android learned my battery and switched on all sorts of voodoo? No. The "toy" factor wore off and it became an every day tool. A very useful one!

Use it when you need or want to, rather than all the time just for the hell of it... and battery life is not an issue.

Then there's also the people who have a couple hundred texts a day with their phone on vibrate, sucking up all the battery life. And are also constantly updating twitter and fb. My younger sister is like this. If that's the reason your phone battery sucks, then I would suggest you find a better way to communicate with people and get out into the real world.

Haha just because people like to text and enjoy social networks it doesn't mean they aren't in the real world. I know a lot of people, and some of those are outside my state. I don't get your idea of real world. You need to learn to think outside the box broski

I had a mix of wifi and 4g today. I have probably 5 hours of 4g time, the other 9 hours were on WiFi at home. As you can see in the screenshots I was on the phone for 50 minutes and used the screen for almost two hours. I have turned off NFC because there's no use for it where I live. I don't even have a friend using another GNex :-( Closest I can get is a cousin with a Nexus S half-way across the country. I don't know if disabling NFC does much, but I figure there's no reason for it to be on so why risk it.

I agree with the OP. I wish I could use it without concern but that is not the case.
Sorry to hear this. Please don't take my post to mean that since I don't you or anyone else shouldn't take steps to improve battery life. I've always felt that way about my TBolt and my first Rezound. The Nexus seems to have good standby ability in my experience but that may vary for you and the OP. I hope you both get it sorted.

I guess in a way it does stink to have to turn off wifi/gps/screen brightness/4G to conserve battery life

but its nice to have that option in case you need it (near an outlet)

i also do not think this is a problem specific to the galaxy nexus

i've used lower end 4g lte phones with the same issue, with the phenomenal screens out there now as well as the thirsty lte chip, i guess it's expected?

We've been doing a run-down test on my wife's Nexus (I use mine too much) and so far, it's gone 34 hours on standby without a charge. (Synch services are normal, so the LTE radio is active. I send a text to it every hour or so, and check the battery level, so the screen has been in use as well.) It still has about 40% charge left.

But, we also have a tower about 100 yards from the house, so the phone isn't hunting for a signal either. YMMV. Mine has been standing up to about 8 hours of regular use before it hits critical battery.

I took my phone off the charger this morning and I have about 7% left on my battery. It has been up for 15h 57m 45s with no charging in between.

I made a few short calls, sent some texts, watched some streaming video, surfed the web, moderated this forum, used twitter, played a poker game, wandered through the market, ran a few speed tests, etc.

This was on a a 50/50 mix of wifi and 4G.

The only "tweak" I've made is to turn off Wifi when I'm not using it.

Battery life is pretty good so far for me.

Maybe he is saying you do something called calling the person.....

I realize that, but we aren't all callers. I enjoy texting more than I do calling for some reason. I also think it's the fact that I'm at work most of the time, and I can get away with texting but having a phone next to my head would get me in trouble.

Also, I have unlimited texting, which I don't have for voice. Some of my friends have different carriers so I would most likely go over my minutes if I just sat there and talked to them on my phone about random shit. That's basically all I do with my friend too. We just basically talk about random stuff, that doesn't really matter. If we really are going to talk, then we do when we hang out. Texting is just so much easier and more lax. We don't wait for each other to say something, with a text we just talk about whatever.

I have to second what a lot of people are saying.

I was actually blown away with the battery life on this phone. I went into it expecting it to suck and it has actually been better than any smart phone I have had to date. I think a lot of it has to do with people's signal strengths where they live or maybe some people just got faulty phones or haven't 'broken them in yet'.

I honestly don't know, but I could not be more satisfied with what this phone can do and how long it lasts while doing it...

Does it bum you out that you can't drive 80mph and get the same gas mileage as when going 60mph? I mean clearly if you are using it all the time the battery will not last. Why do you need gps on all the time? Why do you need screen brightness all the way turned up? You need to be real with what the phones will be able to do and how long they will last. Even the iphone has battery issues once it was able to do more than be a glorified app launcher in IOS5

try going 80 in a 6speed, then try going 80 in a 5 speed. it bums me out that i went back to a 5 speed after many 6 speeds.

my last phone got 7 days off a charge, the gnex 1/4th of a day. 1 speed. :(

Don't take what I said literally. It is a known fact that even people who are socializing with other people, if they are constantly texting someone else with their phone out, they aren't going to be fully engaged with the people around them. Hence, you could be out in the world, but not fully engaging with the people around you. That's all I mean bro. Too much of anything 'll give you gas. Always in moderation.

I bought a second battery and charger so I don't have worry about turning anything off that i don't want turned off. It takes me all of 2 minutes to take care of it.

This.
I've been doing this since my Inc days and again with my TB. But even still, I find myself expecting to have to grab my spare battery at such and such a time only to look down at my Nexus and see that it still has ample battery left! All in all, I'm impressed with my battery life. Sure, it's no BB Tour or Curve in regards to battery, but still I'm getting a day out of a battery with pretty good use... Mind you, I'm in WiFi most of the time, but that's not my phone's fault.

I have been happy with the battery life so far. I can make it through the workday (6am-3pm) and still have juice left afterwards whereas my Evo 4G would be dead by 11am. I listen to Pandora, Google Music, and podcasts all day so it's not sitting idle. I leave on 4G, GPS and like my screen brightness at about 45%. I will get a better idea with a full week of use under my belt but so far so good.
