Root Help With Rooting...I need a dumbed down tutorial :)

Obtaining Root | Root Your Droid

That should do it for you...

After rooting, go to alldroid.org and look in the development/motorola/droid section and look for Pete's subsection...

You'll want to try Bugless Beast (7.8 is the current version).

Adamz also makes nice ROMs...

YES - but read up on nandroid and test it out on your stock OS first, JIC.

I "believe" Droid root helper" will make rooting and backing up easier for you.
Just read first and maybe run your plan by the message board.

I believe this was one of the better sites.

LMFAO - it's funny that so many want to root and they don't know why...

rootyourdroid.info is a nice lil place to learn about rooting. Very noob friendly in both atmosphere and instruction. It makes everything else down the road make a lot more sense.

Also Droid Root Pro is a paid app but so worth it. Makes Rooting 1000 times easier.

Hello everyone. I am like the TS, and in search of an 'easier' guide to rooting. . I have done some reasearch but would like to know how to go about doing my 'plan' the safest and easiest way. Ty.

obtain root
create a backup of my current droid rom 2.01
install bugless beast rom.
OC to 750ghz (cause imo it sounds safer than 800+ lol )
Few questions: Do I have to root before creating a backup? and whats the easiest way to create a backup. And, whats the easiest way to install a custom rom ( such as BB) and if a new version of the rom comes out, how do i "update". Finally, in the event I want to restore to my original stock un-rooted, how would I do that? Thx! (Sorry for overflowing noobness)

for the past couple hours I've been feasting on all the information over at "Root Your Droid" that I'm feeling a little adventurous, but I think I had just a few shots to many of Patron, so I will save that, but the Site is very well put together for NewJacks (like myself and Seasoned Veterans) highly recommended; it has been Buzzed all over the place...

I am not responsible if you brick your phone.

OK here goes.

1. Go to rootyourdroid.info/guides/obtaining-root

2. Read it then do it and you will be rooted.

3. buy DroidRootPro from the market Cheap and worth every penny!!!

4. Open DroidRootPro, click menu - get the tools - READ CAREFULLY AND DO EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS!

5. With the tools installed, Click Mount System Read/Write

6.Click install BusyBox

7.Click Install Flash Image

8.Click Rename recovery-from-boot

9. click Flash 99.2b recovery

10. Click Mount System Read Only

11. Click Sync

12. Click Reboot to recovery

Read The Red Writing So you know how to navigate the Menus. You can also use the Dpad on the keyboard and the Gold Button.

13. Select Backup/Restore

14. Select Advanced Nandroid Backup

15. Put asterisks next to EVERYTHING!!

16. Click Perform Backup

Peform a backup before you Do ANYTHING major because if it goes wrong you can get back to where you were before you did it!!

17. Reboot Phone

18. Download the latest Bugless Beast update.zip to your computer

19. Move it to your SDcard (Do Not Put It In Any Folders)

20. Boot phone into recovery either with DroidRootPro or manually

21. select Install

22. Select allow update.zip installation

23. Select install /sdcard/update.zip

24. Reboot phone

25. Downlaod SetCpu for overclocking and Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

and i've noticed that here in the droid forum it's a little more "techy" than in the eris forum which is more "Low-key"...i think i could learn a lot here haha

It should take you an hour or so.

I would give serious consideration to studying Start Here | Root Your Droid as others have said. Really, it's almost foolproof if you study that. Just make sure, as soon as you have obtained root and installed the SPRecovery MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP. That way you will have a failsafe when (not if) something happens. Something always seems to happen, even (especially) to experienced users. But if you've got a nandroid backup, it's really easy to recover from.

The Eris forum isn't as "techy" probably due to the device not being rooted yet.

That aside, getting root on the droid is not difficult. There have been quite a few links posted to this thread alone, not to mention this subforum in general. What someone is going to be able to tell you here is really not much more than what you will read in those guides, in fact they pretty much quote them. IMO getting root on the phone is the easiest part. Then once you get sprecovery on it, it really doesn't matter what happens as you can always (pretty much)flash a backup.

That said, if you can't afford to replace the phone (full price), and you don't feel comfortable taking the chance of bricking it, noone here is going to rush you. Expecting Verizon to replace it is a stretch. Rooting is not covered under warranty, you might get lucky, but it's that stuff right there that drives up prices for everyone.

As for how long it takes, I guess that depends on your comprehension of fairly basic reading and typing a few commands. Getting root is literally as easy as downloading a file, putting it on your sdcard, booting into recovery (holding X while power up), and running the update. And if that is too difficult, you can download the SMUpdater (now DMUpdater) and have it do everything for you.
