Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

My Nexus family will appreciate this. Every year my family and a couple friends get together to make houses out of graham crackers. This was my creation this year.

Now that I'm perma-rooted with CWR, I'm going to try that Android Revolution HD rom.

[Rom] Android Revolution Hd? 2.1.1 | High Quality & Performance | ICS | Legendary - RootzWiki

Just curious about the speed and "screen enhancements".

If I don't like it, I'll just flash back to stock.

My, how I love the Nexus!!

Edit: These are the supposed features, if anyone is interested.

  • Removed software (CPU) rendering - full PowerVR SGX 540 (GPU) rendering
  • Fully optimized and tweaked
  • ROOT (SU + SuperUser Permissions - Thanks to ChainsDD)
  • Unsecured boot.img
  • Newest BusyBox
  • RAM optimizations
  • Speed optimizations
  • Data, cache and system partitions mounting tweaks
  • Battery auto-calibration script (Thanks to seo)
  • Bloatware applications removed
  • All system applications updated to latest available
  • Zipaligned (Improved RAM management)
  • Zipalign on boot (for user applications on data partition)
  • Fully de-odexed
  • init.d scripts (BusyBox run-parts) support
  • Excellent battery life!
  • Device partitions mounted & formatted as fast EXT4 with many optimizations and EXT4 alignment
  • You can replace Samsung boot animation with any custom boot animation
  • Support almost 24h a day
  • ...and many more!

Otherwise it's the same stock ICS we have now.

So you need mastercard to use google wallet? I'm on visa.

You can link the funding directly to a Citi MC or use the Google debit card option. That is what I did. Then I added $50 from my AmEx (you can use Visa) to the debit card. I'm sure the whole thing is very safe, but I prefer that there is only a limited amount of money on it and that there is no access to a my full credit limit on the card!

would like to hear your review if you flash this...with my OG i was a flash-a-holic but with ICS and my GNex i was thinking of running stock (already unlocked and rooted though) for a while but might be tempted to start flashing again!

I like this idea. Thanks.

Please let us know how you like it. I've been considering that ROM.

Sure. Just finished installing it. Long reboot, as usual.

I'll let you guys know after I've played with it a bit.

I've run every single rom for the Gnex already.. (yes its a problem and I'm seeking help for it ;-) ) and here are All my thoughts:

Stock Pete 4.0.2 - great build. Basicly rooted stock rom and it won't break recovery. I believe its zip aligned too allowing a little better performance.

Revolutionary 2.1.1 - its a solid rom but I found it to be a little glitchy. I don't think its really better then stock and just didn't care too much for it. But that said it is a good alternative. Another thing I noted was that the EXT4 makes it impossible to copy files in the standard mode. Only the camera setting works. FWIW

Fabulous 4.0.2 build - this is my best 4.0.2 choice. Its solid, fast and has a slew of upgrades. It does have the typical slowdowns that all roms have, app drawer stutter, landscape keyboard lag.... but pretty much a well rounded rom.

Mr.Birdman 4.0.3 - best by far. It is AOSP which has its downsides like the lack of the new ringtones, gapps is not as full as a 'rom' would have. Wait for V4 to come out firat though. On V3 the dictionary isn't working and sucks. But the revamps to contacts and alot of the other upgrades in the aosp build make it way faster then any other rom.

Facebook won't comply with Google's regulations and they got da ban hammer lol.

i dont think that it was necessarily that, but more of a "sword fight"... google wont allow facebook to access gmail for users to search their gmail accounts to "find friends", and in return google is being uptight with facebook about integrating it fully into the os

Nope.. its up to Facebook to update and comply. Its actually been an issue for a while. But I believe that OEMs can override and allow it.

BUT in 4.0.3 the contacts are greatly improved and the syncing with G+ and twitter is nice. Like they said 4.0.3 is going to be the ICS building point from here on out

Yeah, I added funds from my PayPal debit card rather than my bank's debit card, for THAT reason :)

I was actually just reading about Android Revolution - Han, let us know what you think!

Okay my initial impressions:

It is a very subtle tweak, really. I'm not sure if its the disabled CPU rendering plus forced GPU rendering, but apps open up instantaneously. The app drawer itself has the tiniest bit of lag upon first opening, but then is lightning fast going through the apps and widgets.

I know it sounds odd, but it's almost too fast.

Other than that, I don't see a huge difference. Its supposed to be better on battery life, and I'm not sure if it is or not yet, obviously. I will keep it for a couple days or so and see if the “awake“ issue is still a problem.

All in all, this is the same exact thing we have with stock. But it is snappier, that's for sure.

whatever the case I wish facebook will sync soon...so far it's not a deal-breaker by any means but a small disappointment in ICS so far...I liked the facebook sync for contact pics...now I have one contact pic?!?...my people app has no faces:(

Thanks for the heads up. I doubt I keep this for long (I'm curious as to what tweaks 4.0.3 brings), but what other glitches should I watch out for?
