Returned my Galaxy Nexus, getting the Rezound

I got slammed on the GN thread for this simple observations. Don't know why.

I returned my GN. Yeah, it may be for the enthusiast, but not better for consumers. Out of the box the Rezound is more user friendly. Without a consumer friendly UI the GN is a bit more cumbersome to navigate. Everyone on the GN thread kept saying "well, you need to download such-and-such app/interface/file or whatever.

A simple example - cannot separate the ringer volume from the notification volume without an outside app. Missing menu button doesn't help much either. You can put apps and widgets on you home screen but not so easily to place a file on there.

Yes, I know that's what the UI's are all about. I just wasn't digging the whole "pure" android experience.

The folks on the GN thread slams everyone who says that they don't care for it.

Good choice. I was on the fence waiting for the Nexus to come out while I bought the Rezound. Spent some time a the verizon store the past few nights checking out the Nexus. Now I know I picked the right phone. It's the sleeper of the bunch.

I can understand why you left but when I told the guys over there that I couldn't wait any longer and how happy I was with my rezound they didn't slam me for it. I haven't been back much either. Maybe they weren't exactly slamming you but we're trying to give you some advice on how to fix the issues you were having???

Hope you're happy with your rezound! If you have any problems with it, don't be afraid to ask and we'll be happy to try to help you with it!

Some accused me of just stirring up trouble and said if I don't like the GN Just get a different phone and don't bother them. I just politely said that the lack of a more user friendly UI in exchange for a "faster", unencumbered phone was not for everyone, and I thought that others who read that thread, but may not have made a decision yet, may like to hear a different point of view.

Note. I want to save my Upgrade, maybe for the rumored HTC Ville. I found a new Rezound for $425 on Craigslist, so at $125 over upgrade price I think I'll jump on it. (yes, I'll make sure it's a clean phone and do the deal at a VZ store)

I think that the whole Nexus vs. Rezound (read that any other phone) is really like the difference between those who want to have an awesome phone and infinite control albeit with some effort and those who just want an awesome phone.

The rezound is a fantastic piece of hardware that will do everything for just about anyone. The nexus allows the "pure android experience" but that requires a bit of effort. Both will get you where you want to go but each is for a different crowd.

On top of all this we have the differences in hardware build quality. It's all a matter of slight compromises. Like they said a long time ago "You pays your money and you picks your own poison".

In 12 months none of this will matter as we will all be discussing the latest holograph phone and whether or not the bionic implants are harmful to your sex life.

The problem is there are lots of people who waited forever for the nexus to be released, expecting to have a near perfect piece of hardware experience. And that has just never been the case with samsung phones. People want to believe what they want to believe.

And sometimes I laugh when I see people saying they will wait for a fix to rolled out to fix this and that. Verizon dopes people into believing that, but mostly people want to believe that on their own.

I've learned my lesson in the past. If it's not working right for you, don't buy into the hype it's going to be fixed. You have 2 years to deal with the device you pick now. It should work right from the minute you walk out of the verizon store.

Waiting for what seemed like months for a device to be released that was half baked and seeing all these issues is not the situation I would want to find myself in.

Exactly. I waited for the Nexus and I have no problems downloading apps, rooting and etc. to fix the little software issues but if the damn thing can make a phone call what use is it? I need a phone.

I gave the Nexus until black Friday to come out and when it didn't, I went to a vzw store and got a rezound for me and an inc2 for my gf. I tried the nexus and didn't like it so I kept my rezound. Simple as that.

I hear ya. This sort of thing reminds me of the first time I learned about "brand loyalty," a sort of religion, and it hand nothing to do with smartphones. I was a kid of 16 and like many others began to smoke cigarettes. :D

I found out that the choice of brand could have a lot to do with how a person then was perceived: Camels = a "real man tough guy," Marlboro = "in with the in crowd," Salem or Newport = "sissy," etc etc. All meaningless, mindless stuck up group think and quite immature at that. ;)

And now here it is again, among some phone users. I'm amazed, but I guess I shouldn't be. :D

@Hal1.Sometimes you have to go through the learning curves when getting a new OS. The one thing I enjoy about Android is the choices it provides. You will find different folks like touch wiz, Sense, Moto-blur and the pure google experience. In all, we are all rocking Android with a little twist to each own liking, just enjoy what's best for you.

The wife and I definitely feel like winners in this Verizon 3 way phone release debacle. Our Droids were 2 years old and mine (with the latest CM) was fine, but hers was dropping calls, randomly rebooting, etc. She was patient for 4 months waiting for the right phone (as selected by myself), but when the Nexus was delayed on Nov. 21st, that was the last straw. I told her we could go check out the Razr and the Rezound, since I knew we could exchange them when the Nexus came out.

Even though I loved my Rezound, I packed it up, organizing all of the accessories in the box and went to the Verizon store to exchange it for the Galaxy Nexus. I played with it for 5 minutes and left without exchanging my Rezound. They told me they had more people who came in with their Rezounds leave with their Rezounds than exchange them. Not that I wouldn't have been happy with the Nexus if I hadn't owned a Rezound for 2 weeks.

As much as I cursed Verizon for the delays, I'm really glad they did.

Note that when the Rezound gets ICS, you will no longer have the option of separating notification and ring volumes. Unless ICS is updated.

I played around with the Rezound yesterday.....nice phone. Might be mine if they don't fix the Gnex signal issues soon. We get almost a month to return/refund. I like everything else about the GNex but my cell standby was nearly 20% without a signal yesterday and that's unacceptable.

BTW, I never cared for the idea that thinner is better. Thinner is awkward IMO when you have these big screen phones....they don't fit as well in your hand as something with more girth.

I too waited and waited for the Nexus. I just didn't like the lack of information and delays. Something seemed fishy to me and it was an immediate red flag. I picked up the Rezound knowing that I could return it if the Nexus turned out to be great. I went to the store on the Nexus' release day and left unimpressed. I'm glad I got the Rezound when I did and won't be making the switch. Sense has taken some getting used to since this is my first HTC, but otherwise this phone is a huge upgrade over my droid x in every way.

sorry that you got slammed over there. It really comes down to whatever phone makes you happy. So don't have any shame in swapping the GN back in for a device that makes you happier.

Yup, I hate it when fans of one belittle fans of another. The Nexus wasn't what you wanted. I don't see why the folks on the other forum had to take it so personally. Generally that's a sign of not being completely comfortable with their decision to get a Nexus, but I'm not going to get into psychology here :D

Conversely, if one of our Rezounders (?) here decided to go trade it in on a Nexus, to me that's their decision. I'm confident that I got the best phone for what I want out of it, and I'm not going to take it personally if someone else thinks their Nexus/iPhone/whatever is better. And I think you'll find most of the Rezounders (there we go with that word again) are pretty much the same way.

After deciding the RAZR wasn't for me, I got the Rezound with the intent of checking out the Nexus in case that was better. In my spare time I've checked out the Nexus 3 or 4 times and just wasn't impressed. I'm keeping the Rezound! For this round of phones I feel it's the best until the quad core phones come. The only things I would wish for is if it were a smidge thinner and had better battery life. Forgiving those, I'm very happy with the phone.
