I just came back from a 4-yr hiatus. I find myself being extremely bored, but I play because it's free for the time being.

4 years! I've been playing for almost 5 years (has it really been that long...I need a life

) and the longest break I have taken was about 6 months. I enjoy it, but when you're a raider it can get frustrating having to depend on 9/24 other people. I never played during the 40 man days....I couldn't even imagine.

That was IT back then, man. WoW was difficult and you needed tons of people to get through the content. When I heard that they were reducing raids to 25-man, I was extremely unhappy. It was one of the deciding factors which caused me to quit in the first place.

Yeah Bliz has developed a nasty habbit of constently down-grading the difficulty. But hey at least now you don't have to spend the equivalent time of a part time job to get fat lootz. Oh well like I said when a wow killer comes out I will go waste my free time on that instead.

The problem is that all these MMOs copy off of eachother in some way. I don't think there will ever be a "WoW-killer" but perhaps a game that can share the open space in terms of competition. I've seen so many MMOs come along and fail. Blizzard is good at what they do. They will keep pushing out content and people will continue to buy it.

All I can say is bye bye WoW once D3 comes out.

I played for about 1.5 years. I quit in November because I just can't afford to keep paying the monthly fee (I'm currently unemployed, though I don't think I'm willing to play subscription based games anymore, regardless).

I miss raiding and socializing with my guild, but that's about it. The game stopped being fun long before I finally quit. I kept playing because I just felt compelled to (and I had already paid for it). I definitely enjoyed the feeling of "improving" my character by gearing up. Each new piece of gear felt like an achievement. I found it frustrating every time Blizzard released new gear, and all of the time I had spent gearing up was seemingly rendered mute. It really started to feel like a job, putting in hours running content I was tired of to get points; and buying gear with points was far less satisfying than having it drop off a boss.

Honestly, I was spending too much of my time playing the game. I hated the feeling of "I have to play to get my money's worth.", and really the game is meant to be played that way. I'd rather spend my time doing other things, and playing other games

(which I didn't do much of during my time with WoW).

WoW is an amazing MMORPG, it's fun to play, and gives me something to do when i'd just be sitting around doing nothing, but to be honest, if it wasn't for RP realms, i'd have quit a long time ago.

I play off and on, have been for a few years, it helped me get through a rough patch in my life. I don't raid, I play casually, I guess it's the escape from real life without having to pay an arm and a leg for an amazing vacation.

Not quite WoW, but related...
So, we've joined a guild in Rift and we're both very pleased with it so far. Last night we tried to run a dungeon that the two of us should have been able to handle. It was a 23rd level instance and we're both 26th level. We didn't realize it was full of elites, and we got our butts handled to us. So we decided to ask our new guild for help. Bear in mind that we had just joined the guild the day before. We had more responses than we could use, including the guild leader! Three of them joined us, even though they were on different continents working on their own quests. When they arrived and we began, it was so smooth it was like we had rehearsed! It was also so much fun that the whole group decided to run another dungeon (this one was a 27th level dungeon.) This was a very different experience than what our old guild in WoW was like. We would never have received help on the spot like that. It was awesome!
