Occasionally - especially in the BART station - I notice that my 3G indicator and bars turn from green to white, and that I can't access the internet.

I've found that turning data off and on (if you have the power control widget installed, press the third button from the right -- or settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, data enabled) fixes it.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I know that the turning from green to white thing means that you've lost your data connection to google as far as syncing goes. It shouldn't mean that you've lost internet though. It happens to me all the time, even when on wifi (the wifi signal turns from green to white) but I can still surf the internet. It turns green after a while.

Rarely but i have had this issue. The worst I've had to deal with is when a call comes in and the phone freezes! Drives me up a wall! Good thing it only happens once in a blue moon our i would have returned the phone.

How long time did you taken to data connection recover(same place)? Yes if lost data connection with google account the bar will turn to white. and maybe the BART has weak signal coverage. how about your past experiece on other phone here?

Ty,

Yes. I have the same problem. I also live in the SF bay area. And yes, pressing the "third button" on and off (on the power settings widget) disabling and enabling 3G, does fix it. But why the heck should we be worried about that, not sure if its worth taking back. The phone is awesome otherwise. My friends 4G galaxy 2 loads HQ Youtube vids only seconds faster. This green/white problem happens infrequently and is not acceptable because like you stated, what is green should be white. I wonder if we missed calls when we were in the white zone?

I'm not going to return the phone over it, Paul. It's a minor inconvenience and for $55/month it's worth putting up with.

I wonder if white means roaming. Actual Sprint customers can roam onto Verizon. Boost customers can't, the store told me. Maybe the phone latches onto Verizon even though Verizon won't talk to it. And pressing the button forces it to let go, then it looks for Sprint again when you press the button again?

I have discovered this happens to me occasionally outside. The bars turn white and the data connection altogether turns off. I can't successfully use any app that requires a data connection like Soundhound or Shazam. I also can't get online with a browser. I have fixed the problem by turning phone completely off then back on again and everything works again and have green bars. I tried airplane mode several times but that didn't work for me. Doesn't happen often but when it does incredibly inconvenient!

I have noted this as well. It seems to happen the most when I am about to go into a dead zone. I will still have the bars but like everyone else they will turn white. It happens everyday on my drive to work at the same place and about half a mile later I lose all my bars. After about a half mile it comes back green and perfect. This place is right in the middle of a very good zone but there is a dead spot that is consistently bad everyday. So at least in this case I believe it happens in a zone where I am in between the edge of two towers that just barely do not overlap.

Just fyi,
Recently I'd been going thru the same issue. However, I also have a "nightmare next door" issue with horrible neighbors. The sicko has used all types of electronic equipment against me. When i am home, i have "white bars" until he leaves for work at 5:30/6am by 6:07am i get my greenbars back until he gets home. Discovered to my horror this bastard eavesdrops on me. I have things in place to stop this. Just wanted to add this fyi. Sometimes it's not always a "deadzone" causing ur bars to turn white and you lose data/intermet connection. When people eavesdrop on u
Thru ur phone signal, their "listening in" will cause ur phone's signal to be blocked becuz they are piggybacking on ur connection/signal to hear. Just fyi, something to think about.
